Julianne MacLean Releases Four Books in One Day - How is that possible?

twitterfacebook

Big news - I have a brand new book out which I have been keeping under wraps until now.  To quote Connie Brockway, I have "gone rogue" with this one, and I am releasing it independently.

It’s called THE SEXY GIRL’S GUIDE TO COWBOYS, and it’s a wild, quirky time travel romance that takes a modern day heroine back to Dodge City in the Old West.  Official release date: June 20.

It’s a story I wrote in 1995, when I was still an unpublished writer and time travels were all the rage.  When I finished it, however, publishers weren’t buying time travels anymore, so I had to shelve it and start something new.

I wrote PRAIRIE BRIDE, also set in Dodge City, and sold that book to Harlequin.  It was my first published novel.  After that, I wrote THE MARSHAL AND MRS. O’MALLEY, then ADAM’S PROMISE.

Let us now do some time traveling of our own, and skip ahead to the year 2011.

Here we are, with Blackberries and Ipads, and the ability to self-publish e-books.  It is astounding, and I love the fact that I can finally deliver this book to readers, and do it quickly without waiting a year for a release date.

I always loved this book, and since I had a little break between my Highlander releases, I had time to dig it out and revise it.  The original version had no mention of the technology we have today, and the heroine was wearing a bulky denim shirt.  Remember those?  That had to change, and the writing needed a bit of polish.

I hope you’ll check it out and see how my writing has changed in the past decade.  This is definitely Julianne MacLean as a young writer.

So what about my question -"Four books released in one day…How is that possible?"

Here’s the story:  Two weeks ago, as I was gearing up to publish THE SEXY GIRL’S GUIDE TO COWBOYS, I received an email from someone on the digital team for backlist e-books at Harlequin.  They wanted to let me know they were reissuing my first three historicals as e-books this month, all on the same day.

What was the release date?  You guessed it.  June 20 - the exact date I had pegged for THE SEXY GIRL’S GUIDE TO COWBOYS.  I swear I nearly fell out of my chair, because neither of us knew what the other was up to.

So there you have it - pure serendipity.  All my out-of-print westerns are now available as e-books, as well as a shiny new novel with a contemporary, time traveling heroine squaring off against a gorgeous, gunslinging sheriff in a black hat.

To celebrate, I’m giving away a delicious box of Godiva chocolates to one lucky commenter.  Share anything you want.  Tell me if you prefer cowboys to Highlanders - or vice versa - or tell me how much you like chocolate.   It doesn’t matter - just share something, and you are entered!

THE SEXY GIRL’S GUIDE TO COWBOYS

The West Was Never Wilder...

What would you do if your car spun out of control and you woke up in the Wild West of 1881?

Dressed in skinny jeans, sexy red pumps - and frustrated by a troublesome lack of cell phone reception -- fitness columnist Jessica Delaney soon finds herself dodging bullets.  Before the night is out, she’s thrown in jail for a murder she didn’t commit, and if things don’t seem complicated enough, the hot-looking sheriff in charge of her arrest has danger written all over him - and a sexy swagger to die for.

Jessica knows she needs to get home, but when ruggedly handsome Sheriff Truman Wade gives her a taste of the real Wild West, she begins to wonder… what’s her hurry?

Available as an e-book June 20, 2011.  Print edition coming in Fall 2011.

(Deborah Rudd 9:31am June 19, 2011)

There's nothing sexier than a rugged cowboy.
(Pam Howell 9:45am June 19, 2011)

Love them cowboys...would love to go back to the wild west !!
(Dawn Staniszeski 9:56am June 19, 2011)

I am a HUGE fan of historical romance novels, ESP time travel! It is a
great escape from the modern world LOL! I'm glad I found you here at
fresh fiction! I have discovered a great many authors that are new to me,
and books that I love! :~)
(Stefanie Finn 10:10am June 19, 2011)

Serendipity is a good thing. Best wishes, Julianne, for your quadruple release day.
(G S Moch 11:05am June 19, 2011)

Oooh... quadruple release? That's a big day. :) Congratulations!

Godiva chocolates are the best. :) Lindt comes a close second....
(May Pau 11:32am June 19, 2011)

If I woke up in the wild west of 1881, I would hope that my skirt was covering
my legs and that a gorgeous cowboy would be there patting my wrists and
comforting me as I came to. Sigh! That's the good wish. Wouldn't want to
wake up in a brothel!! Noooo!!!

I love cowboys! They are so yummy especially with chocolate!
(Patti Paonessa 11:44am June 19, 2011)

Cowboys or Highlanders - love them both and love your books, thanks.
(Barbara Hanson 11:46am June 19, 2011)

historical romance novels is the closest thing to fairy tale
for me. the glitter, glamour, balls, the evil antagonist, true
love and happy endings...
(Lory Diocampo 11:46am June 19, 2011)

I love reading about both Highlanders and Cowboys but for personal consumption it would have to be Cowboys...*sigh*

Good luck and happy writing!
(Tracie Travis 12:44pm June 19, 2011)

I definately prefer Cowboys any day - their tight jeans, their swagger, their drawl - their ten-gallon hat, riding on their horse, or just strutting around in their Stetsons with the spurs on the back. Yum!! lol You can go anywhere with the story line, and the scenery is to die for!! I love the country, live in the country, and although the work is back-breaking, their hearts are pure and open, and I haven't met one yet that I didn't like. The same goes for Chocolate, although I'm still acquiring a taste for White Chocolate. Congratulations on your latest book, as well as serendipity. All I need to do is find a way to save up for an e-reader!!
(Peggy Roberson 1:11pm June 19, 2011)

Congrats on the releases! Cowboys and Highlanders... I enjoy both!
(Colleen Conklin 1:11pm June 19, 2011)

(MaryEllen Hanneman 2:38pm June 19, 2011)

Oh, my! Now I am thinking of a charming cowboy carrying a box of Godiva chocolates and wearing "Yes, Ma'am" expression ; )
(Virginia Campbell 2:45pm June 19, 2011)

Hope them cowboys treat their wimmen as well as they do them thar horses!!!!
Congratulations!!!
(Sandra Spilecki 2:47pm June 19, 2011)

Nothing like a real man. No judgement here if he is a highlands or a
cowboy. The idea of either gets a wonderful scene of them feeding me
those chocolates... my imagination got ahead of me :)
(Carla Carlson 3:07pm June 19, 2011)

Chocolate really talks to me and I sure do listen. If I haven't had a certain kind of chocolate for a month, I start dreaming about it and can't' help but go there.
(Alyson Widen 3:08pm June 19, 2011)

I love highlanders and cowboys - just give me a good story lol. I love variety and I love chocolate, especially dark because after all, it's good for you lol.
(Jeanne Sheats 3:12pm June 19, 2011)

I love the name! I love the cover! I love the blurb! But I especially love that you are having 4 books come out in one day!!! That's is so cool. I don't know if serendipity is a big enough word.
(Jennifer Beyer 3:16pm June 19, 2011)

Godiva chocolates go just as well with Highlanders as they do with Cowboys. All three are equally yummy!
(Janice Milliken 3:27pm June 19, 2011)

Congrats on the releases, Julianne. I have to admit that I love Highlanders. I'm also a chocolate lover.
(Jane Cheung 3:29pm June 19, 2011)

I enjoy time travel stories. Good Luck!
Blessings,
Marjorie
(Marjorie Carmony 3:31pm June 19, 2011)

ooooh, Julianne!! The decadence of a fine rich piece of chocolate is so wonderful. Godiva is my favorite and yes, I
can eat just one and be satisfied. Yummy---------------!!

(Diane Pollock 3:53pm June 19, 2011)

I'm just thinking about if I were to wake up in the Wild West of 1881 and know that I'd be shocked out of my mind first. But then hope that I would be able to adjust to my surroundings pretty quickly and meet some nice people :)
Nice to see this one being self-published.
(Leni Kaye 3:57pm June 19, 2011)

I do love me some cowboys. They are a special kind of man and you just can't beat them.

Highlanders, Cowboys and Chocolate. Oh My......
What's not to love.
(Maude Allen 6:05pm June 19, 2011)

Congrats Julianne! MIK's ('real' Highlanders in kilts) or a
cowboy in 'oh so sexy' chaps and a stetson, both are great!! I
love time travel books as well, glad to see the trend is
changing. Thanks for the contest! :)
(Pauline Savage 6:09pm June 19, 2011)

I have always had horses and loved cowboys! Love a good piece of chocolate even more-LOL! I am getting a Kindle hopefully this week; so will definitely check out all of your books-the timing is perfect.
(Jody Hollenbeck 6:10pm June 19, 2011)

A sheriff in a black hat? That sounds ominous. I thought good guys always wear white hats. So does this mean a bad sheriff or just a bad boy? I'm eager to find out.
(Sigrun Schulz 6:17pm June 19, 2011)

I love your Highlanders, I bet your cowboys are just as great!
(Pam McLeod 6:22pm June 19, 2011)

I have a Kindle and I love it! I love stories with Cowboys and Highlanders.
(Yuka Liew 6:57pm June 19, 2011)

You KNOW I love cowboys - that's why I write 'em! But you also know how much I ADORE your highlanders...and your regencies...

I'm super excited to be able to read "NEW" Julianne MacLean and also finally get my grubby little fingers on the 3 books I was missing! Hooray for new releases and digital backlists!
(Donna Alward 7:04pm June 19, 2011)

Congratulations on all four the releases! I wonder what Sheriff "Danger" thinks of the sexy, red pumps. LOL! I'll take all three: cowboys, highlanders, and chocolates!
(Cynthia Netherton 7:10pm June 19, 2011)

I am so intrigued by this title! There is definitely nothing on the market right
now like this, and I can't wait to read it.
(Sara Hubbard 7:10pm June 19, 2011)

your book sounds great and then you are great authors
and then i would love to read your book

So you've done your own time travel. :)
(Mary Ann Dimand 9:39pm June 19, 2011)

Julianne -
I haven't had a chance to read any of your cowboy stories so I was really excited to read your blog.

My sister-in-law is married to her very own cowboy and they live in Baggs, Wyoming! Her husband grew up on the largest ranch in the area in fact it was on Bureau of Land Management land and it covered parts of both Wyoming and Colorado. When my brother-in-law was growing up his father used to send him with his brothers to drive in the herd. They would drive the truck as far as it would go and then get on their horses and ride to wear the herd was to drive them back to the truck taking turns driving while the remaing two brothers would "guide them home".

The even made a PBS movie about the "last of the cowboys" about his father!

I may have one of my own in the family but I'd love to read your books and learn your view of cowboys!
(Jeanne Miro 9:52pm June 19, 2011)

Congratulations!!! You really had some great news --- probably a once in a life time event. On top of that, your new book has a fascinating plot.
(Anna Speed 10:01pm June 19, 2011)

Book sounds great, enjoyed reading your blog.
(Sheila True 10:02pm June 19, 2011)

I'm glad you are finally getting to publish this book. It sounds fantastic, and I love time travel.
(Mary Shaw 10:18pm June 19, 2011)

I love reading cowboys, time travel, and historical fiction. You've bound it all into one. Love it!
(Renee Brown 11:07pm June 19, 2011)

Cowboys or highlanders? That's a hard question! Dark chocolate though is my fave chocolates.
(S Tieh 1:19am June 20, 2011)

THE SEXY GIRL'S GUIDE TO COWBOYS looks amazing. I will not choose, I'll take both Highlanders & cowboys thank you.
(Mary Preston 1:57am June 20, 2011)

As a native Texan, cowboys are a given first choice for my favorite. However, I have developed a marked fondness for Scotsmen. I'm not sure that I could choose one over the other. Now as to chocolate, I prefer milk chocolate. I know most like dark, but I still prefer milk. Congratulations on the quadruple e-release day! Love serendipity!
(Mary McLarty 4:11am June 20, 2011)

Hi Julianne,
Fantastic news on your blast of releases! All in the same day is really a
lucky omen.
Stella
(Stella MacLean 4:20am June 20, 2011)

As a New Englander, Texas and cowboys are not my usual, but I love reading about them.
(Becky Hagstrom 10:27am June 20, 2011)

I love Julianne's books so I am sure this one is great!!
(Alisha Woods 11:24am June 20, 2011)

There are few things in life that cannot be generic. One of those things in my life is chocolate. I have had a love affair with chocolate that dates back to a Lolita status. Chocolate in cookies, cake, brownies, frosting..any way I could get chocolate as a child, I would. Fast forward to adulthood. While shopping one day at the mall, I yet again passed by the Godiva store and wondered, why on earth would people pay loads of money for CHOCOLATE when you can get such delicious chocolate from a grocery or convenience store? I decided that I would have to go and see what all of the fuss was about. I ordered 4 extra dark chocolate truffles. They were dark chocolate covered chocolate ganache rolled in dark cocoa. To say that that first bite of that first truffle was pure ecstasy would not even come close to describing what I felt. My eyes closed, my mouth watered, by body shuddered from delight. From that moment on, I was not satisfied with mere convenience store chocolate. Once a month, I would go to the Godiva store and purchase $25 worth of extra dark chocolate truffles, and I would make them last like Charlie did that percious chocolate bar in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Then, one expectant trip to the Godiva store changed my life forever...when I went to make that monthly purchase and I found the doors to the store closed forever. *sob sob sob* I cannot purchase the truffles online, either. (Believe me, I have tried...) As Kate Winslet watched Leo fade from her sight, I reluctantly walked away, watching the store get smaller and smaller in my view, eventually disappearing forever, leaving me forever unfulfilled. Sure, I can eat other chocolate, but none will ever fill the void left by Godiva's extra dark chocolate truffles.
(Jennifer Abrams 12:34pm June 20, 2011)

Being married to a Texan keeps me interested in all things cowboys, Yee Hah!
(Marcelle Cole 1:38pm June 20, 2011)

I LOVE chocolate! And cowboys :)
(M E 2:16pm June 20, 2011)

I always had a thing for cowboys. And I LOVE chocolate -- especially dark
chocolate.
(Mona Garg 3:08pm June 20, 2011)

Cowboys or kilts? Don't make me chose. Love them both, and love chocolate!
(Shirley Nienkark 5:17pm June 20, 2011)

Chocolate -- how I love thee! So much that when I was pregnant with my first child and someone asked what would I do if my kid was allergic to chocolate, I answered 'get them shots'!! And I love cowboys... and highlanders... almost equally.
