Sara Reyes | It's hot, I'm lazy, What's to read?

Fresh Fiction Team at Boardwalk Inn
I survived another BIG conference, this time in Orlando at Walt Disney World. I think it's actually the only time in my life to date I've been in Orlando and NOT gone for at least half a day to the Disney Parks. Sorry, can't count the back lot experience in getting to the Living Seas Harper Collins party this time. Because it was really back lot. Don't fault me, I enjoyed seeing the "behind the scenes" but since it was "business" I have to count it in the "not seeing Disney" column. Did get to see the glamorous Eloisa James and effervescent Wendy Corsi Staub at the party. Then rode back with Jenna Petersen which is always a treat! It's odd, you met someone years ago and they stick with you for YEARS in a very good way! Only sad thing, I did NOT get a pirate hat OR a tiara. And we know how much I love tiaras! But what did I see this year? Staying in the Boardwalk Inn, I did get delicious breakfasts at the bakery each morning, ah I miss the chocolate croissants. Ah, just the croissants in general were delicious and who can avoid a blueberry Mickey muffin? Not me! And the Boardwalk area is a nice place to just hang out and people watch. A very stylized imaging of the early 20th century seaside resorts along the Atlantic. Not that I'm old enough to have visited any of those, but it was fun to pretend! As for business, well, I did meet lots of my favorite authors in a week! From Vicki Lewis Thompson to Suz Brockmann to Allison Brennan to Sherrilyn Kenyon to Dianna Love. I goosed (it was accidental I swear) Molly O'Keefe, and exchanged greetings with Diane Whiteside, Tara Taylor Quinn, Sharon Ashwood and so many more! Gwen interviewed over 30 authors over three days and lost her voice. Look for the video interviews to show up soon on FreshFiction.tv (if we harass her they'll show up sooner, no?)

I'm off to a Readers 'n 'ritas meeting and there's all sorts of news coming
there as well! What a great time that will be! You should all be excited too!

Re: Sara Reyes | It's hot, I'm lazy, What's to read?

I have so enjoyed reading about the RWA convention this week at various blogs around the web. Everyone is writing about their experiences- who they met, what they did, how they survived the heat, etc. It has been especially fun to see the pictures posted. I liked seeing my favorite authors and bloggers all dressed up. You ladies clean up very nicely. :-)
(Cheryl Castings 11:53am August 7, 2010)

I would have loved to been at the RWA convention! Reading the blogs and what a fabulous time everyone had at a fantasy place like Disney World. I've been lucky enough to spend a week there, and I agree with you. The Boardwalk is amazing.

I keep hoping an event will be held in Charlotte. Closer to home for me, and I wouldn't miss it for nuttin'!
(Cynthia Netherton 12:25pm August 7, 2010)

Having a great time getting caught up with everyone's adventures. Sounds like a wonderful experience for both authors and readers.
(Cathy MacDonald 12:49pm August 7, 2010)

It's fun to read about all of goings on at the convention. I live vicariously thru you!
(Elizabeth Parzino 12:50pm August 7, 2010)

I loved reading all the updates through Twitter. Sounds like you had a wonderful time! Thanks for keeping us all in the loop!
(Deanne Dekle 1:04pm August 7, 2010)

(Sagrario Vigil 1:40pm August 7, 2010)

I've seen pics from the conference and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time at RWA.
(Jane Cheung 1:44pm August 7, 2010)

It's okay to give up Disney in return for the experience you had! Sounds like great fun.
(G S Moch 1:51pm August 7, 2010)

Looks like you guys had so much
fun! Too bad I couldn't make RWA
this year, but I definitely plan
to attend next year.
(Jacqueline Cook 1:59pm August 7, 2010)

oh wow, that's a lot of people I would end up being a gibbering fangirl for.
(Deirdre Thornton 2:10pm August 7, 2010)

I really enjoyed the RWA Literacy Author Signing. I met and talked to at least 50 authors, and missed so many more, it was crazy and fun and I'm so glad I went. Disney's always fun, but the 2010 RWA Conference is a once in a lifetime event, so it's okay to miss Disney, it will be there later.
(Barbara Elness 2:14pm August 7, 2010)

It's nice to read about the conferences, but I sure wish I could go and meet all the wonderful authors. But until that time, I will enjoy getting to now the authors thru their works!
(Kimberley Coover 2:17pm August 7, 2010)

Always sounds like so much fun... love when everyone shares their experiences!!! :)
(Colleen Conklin 2:34pm August 7, 2010)

(Vickie Hightower 4:03pm August 7, 2010)

I'm condensing my library so right now I'm rereading classics. I just finished Saving Grace by Julie Garwood.
(Jodi Kegebein 5:28pm August 7, 2010)

From all the pictures at the RWA, everyone seemed to have a great time being there. Hope to attend one soon. Of course, books will help passed the in-between times.
(Kai Wong 5:44pm August 7, 2010)

That's a dream of mine - to get to go to the RWA Conference - esp the Literacy Booksigning! Just finished Suz Brockmann's Infamous last weekend, I'm reading White Heat by Brenda Novak now and plan to read the rest of the "Heat" trilogy, gonna read The Homecoming by JoAnn Ross, The Whisper by Carla Neggers, Desparate Deeds by Dee Davis, The Echo Of Violence by Jordan Dane, and Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. And many more!!!

(Jo Ann Jansing 1:52am August 8, 2010)

Every thing sounded like such fun, wish I was there.
(Linda Hall 1:55am August 8, 2010)

I am so jealous : ) I had great plans to
be in Nashville for the RWA Librarians
Day and the Signing. Well, I made my
reservations as early as I could getting
a place right next to the Opryland
Hotel. Unfortunately they were
nonrefundable reservations and the
place reopened July 16. So I sat in
Nashville reading all the blogs I could
about RWA (when the WIFI was
working). Maybe I'll make it another
year.
(Patricia Barraclough 1:56am August 8, 2010)

Sounds like a great time was had
by all. I can't wait till next
year when I get to go:)
(Carrie Zimmerman 2:30am August 8, 2010)

It sounds like you had a blast.
(Ginger Hinson 2:34am August 8, 2010)

Thanks for thinking of us, since most of
us can only dream about attending the
RWA conference!
(Sue Ahn 3:15am August 8, 2010)

I live in Orlando and still was unable to attend the convention. BOO HISS Thanks for sharing your experience. Sometime vicarious living is good enough.
(Sandra Dickey 4:12am August 8, 2010)

These conferences always sound like so much fun!
Blessings,
Marjorie
(Marjorie Carmony 6:12am August 8, 2010)

I love reading about the conferences, as I like in England I never get to them.
(Barbara Hanson 6:44am August 8, 2010)

Summers can be a disaster in
Wisconsin. Too hot, too humid
or too rainy. So we spend a
lot of time indoors. We eat
our fav cucumber and tomato
salad. Just chop tomatoes
(any type) and cucumbers, add
to a bowl, sprinkle with sea
salt and a squeeze of lemon
juice. Perfect summer salad.
And reading? I'll read
anything, my TBR list is huge,
so I just pick the oldest on
the bookshelf.
(Tanja Haack 7:54am August 8, 2010)

The convention sounded like a Hoot! Wish I could attend one.
(JoAnn White 8:19am August 8, 2010)

I agree it's nice to read
about conferences, but I hope
to someday go to one and see
it for myself! As for reading,
I'm just finishing up Pride
and Prejudice in my new found
thirst for the classics and
then I will be on the look out
for something new, too.
Perhaps the latest Marilyn
Brant will foot the bill...

Margay
(Margay Roberge 8:48am August 8, 2010)

It sounds like everyone had a good time. One year, I would like to go.
(Fallon Hadley 9:09am August 8, 2010)

How I so envy you. I wish I could have gone to Disney. I know everyone had a ball and made memories to last a lifetime.
(Gigi Hicks 9:47am August 8, 2010)

It was nice to read about everyone's experiences in Orlando, but it was a shame you didn't have time for Disney/
(Pam Howell 10:16am August 8, 2010)

The conference sounded so wonderful, and there's so many great books that came out, I don't know where to start!! I have enough of them on my list to keep me occupied, not only through the rest of the summer, but into the fall as well!! It's good they picked a great location, so that everyone could have some extra fun if they could break away!! Wish I could have been there.
(Peggy Roberson 10:25am August 8, 2010)

These days are perfect for lying on the beach and reading good books!
(Lisa Garrett 10:56am August 8, 2010)

The Conference must have been a wonderful time and what a thrill meeting all the fabulous writers in one place.

Wow, sounds like fun! I want to
go!
(Ekta Patel 11:15am August 8, 2010)
