Laura Kaye | For the Love of a Greek God Hero

goodreadstwitterfacebook

Owen is the kind of a man any one of us would love to call our own. He is everything that is wonderful: warm and giving with a mischievous sense of fun and an almost child-like sweet tooth. Here is a man who takes delight in Lucky Charms and ice cream, who is a tiger in the sack, and whose number one priority is not to hurt Megan. Truly, I could eat him up with a spoon. ~From the Book Wenches Review

Given the awesome reception NORTH OF NEED's hero, Owen Winters, is receiving, I thought I'd share what I think makes him so lovable and compelling. As a basic description, Owen is a long-exiled snow god who is the adopted son and destined successor of the Boreas, the Supreme God of the North Wind and Winter. And here's why I and the heroine Megan love him, and hopefully YOU will, too:

Godly Handsome. What else would you expect in a Greek god? LOL Let's just say that cover does Owen all kinds of justice. Here's Megan's first impression: Even asleep, unconscious, whatever, the guy was ruggedly handsome. Mop of shiny black hair, strong brow, square jaw, fair skin, full red lips. A male Snow White. And that's just the tip of the scrumptious iceberg, as it were.

Super Powerful. The Greek gods are renowned for their supernatural powers, and Owen's no different. He can control the wind, the weather, and the nature of the season. He can exist in either elemental or corporeal form, and can travel between the human realm and the Realm of the Gods.

Playful. For Owen, it's been a long time since he was last corporeal and a part of the human realm. Therefore, he experiences everything with a sense wonder that Megan finds totally adorable and contagious. This is a big man, an ancient god, a powerful creature of the divine realm, and yet he loves to play in the snow, race Megan while skiing, and eat ice cream and Lucky Charms like a kid. And I love the juxtaposition.

Devoted. The thing that makes Owen happiest above all else is Megan's joy and comfort, and I love that he's so powerful yet has this incredible soft spot when it comes to his woman. There are so many incredible examples of this, I can't pick just one!

So, that's some of the reasons me and Megan are totally in love with Owen Winters. What makes a hero especially lovable and compelling to you?

Thanks for reading!

About NORTH OF NEED:

Her tears called a powerful snow god to life, but only her love can grant the humanity he craves...

Desperate to escape agonizing memories of Christmas past, twenty-nine-year-old widow Megan Snow builds a snow family outside the mountain cabin she once shared with her husband, realizing too late that she's recreated the very thing she'll never have.

Called to life by Megan's tears, snow god Owen Winters appears unconscious on her doorstep in the midst of a raging blizzard. As she nurses him to health, Owen finds unexpected solace in her company and unimagined pleasure in the warmth of her body, and vows to win her heart for a chance at humanity.

Megan is drawn to Owen's mismatched eyes, otherworldly masculinity, and enthusiasm for the littlest things. But this Christmas miracle comes with an expiration--before the snow melts and the temperature rises, Megan must let go of her widow's grief and learn to trust love again, or she'll lose Owen forever.

Great guy!
(Susan Navidad 7:23am November 6, 2011)

I love guys that move well and have a cute awkwardness when they talk about "personal stuff".
(Beth Elder 8:09am November 6, 2011)

Strong, caring, a sense of humor and a good body helps too!
(Barbara Hanson 8:35am November 6, 2011)

I like heroes that are real people at the end of the day.
(Pam Howell 8:36am November 6, 2011)

The man I married fits the guy I adore: sweet, yet strong and
capable in most situations, great sense of humor that is self deprecating at times, loyal and honest, can be the rock I can
lean on when I'm struggling, basically my best friend!

This comment was enough to make me want the book to read
more about this delectable guy.

Sounds super...I really want to read this book!
(Leanna Morris 9:43am November 6, 2011)

I'm diasppointed that you have this as an e-book only, because I don't own a Kindle. The book does sound divine, and I plan on reading it anyway. I hope in the future, that Authors will consider making the contests a winners' choice. Anyway, I like Heroes who not necessarily are drop-dead Handsome, but are on the nice-looking side. They also have to be true to family and family values. They should be strong-hearted, and know when to be soft - as in when they're with a woman or child. They should also love to laugh and have fun, for as we know, life is so short, and all things are not to be taken so seriously. I do like the cover, and hope that you will reconsider the e-book.
(Peggy Roberson 10:50am November 6, 2011)

Where was this guy when I lived in cold Minnesota? Would love to read more about him!
(Nancy Ludvik 11:39am November 6, 2011)

I like a hero to be protective and have a good sence of humor. A nice visual description doesn't hurt either.
(Jennifer Lower 11:49am November 6, 2011)

Wonderful sense of humor, listening well a priority, faithful and loyal (they are
different), willingness to lend a hand. Looks are secondary.
(Sandra Spilecki 12:00pm November 6, 2011)

Thank you for the info and this is a book I would love to read.
(Maude Allen 12:03pm November 6, 2011)

(Shirley Sego 12:17pm November 6, 2011)

This sounds so good. I'd love to win a copy. Thank you :).
(Victoria Sloboda 12:39pm November 6, 2011)

Sounds like a wonderful read! I am adding it to my list!
(Colleen Conklin 12:45pm November 6, 2011)

Compassion, a sense of humor and a huge heart will do it for me :)
(Na S 12:49pm November 6, 2011)

Honor, compassion, humor.
(Mary C 1:22pm November 6, 2011)

Hi Laura, your hero attributes are right on target. There's only one more I would add to the list - sensitivity, meaning that if he's sad, he's brave enough to show it and if his heroine is sad, he's brave enough to comfort her. : )
The ability to laugh at himself would be a big plus, too!!
(Amy Valentini 1:33pm November 6, 2011)

Sense of humor, intelligence and kindness are way up there on my list.
(G. Bisbjerg 1:40pm November 6, 2011)

Hi Laura! I love my hero to be sexy, charming, handsome, loyal, honest, romantic, sweet, caring, kind, with a sense of humor and a great body--just a few of my favorite hero attributes! Your book sounds like a fantastic read, my type of book! I don't have a Kindle yet, either, and would much prefer a paperback. Can't wait to read about Owen & Megan. Love that this will be in a series of 4 books and will be looking for the others to read.
(Linda Luinstra 2:52pm November 6, 2011)

What are the titles for the other 3 books in your Hearts of the Anemoi series and do you have any idea as to when they will be released?
(Linda Luinstra 2:55pm November 6, 2011)

The Greek God as a hero strikes me as one of strength and mystery. Can he possibly live up to all those myths?
(Alyson Widen 3:04pm November 6, 2011)

Hi guys! So sorry to be late to the party, but can I just say how awesome y'all are? I've got family visiting, so stealing some computer time has been hard! I'll try to answer all your questions and comments now!
(Laura Kaye 3:06pm November 6, 2011)

Oops! Looks like my message got too long there:

@Linda--Oh, I'd be happy to share that:
WEST OF WANT - spring 2012
SOUTH OF SURRENDER - summer 2012
EAST OF ECSTASY - fall 2012

@Alyson--Oh, interesting point and question, Alyson! And doesn't that seem like some delicious tension to build into a character?

Phew! Okay, I think I responded to everyone! Now that I've got some time, I'll be back to comment more frequently! :) Thanks so much for all your kind words and for talking heroic qualities with me today!
(Laura Kaye 3:22pm November 6, 2011)

Sounds like a good read. Love the hero. Thanks for giving me a chance to win it.
(Linda Hall 3:31pm November 6, 2011)

I like my hero tall, handsome, and with flaws(i.e, loner, brooding, or afraid of being in small places like an elevator *wink wink*). I am looking forward to reading North of Need. If I don't win, will definitely purchase it.

When a man can be gentle and yet strong, sweet in a tough way, you've got a keeper.
(Diane Sadler 6:51pm November 6, 2011)

I think you have some of the best qualities a man can have listed already. Lets see...smart, sexy, strong, playful and loving...what more can you ask for? Well rich too.
LOL
(Patti Paonessa 7:32pm November 6, 2011)

That guy sounds like one in a million-obviously he isn't based on a real man, LOL!!
The book sounds wonderful! I think I'll put it on my reading list!
