Karen Kelley | I See Sexy Men (Hey, it’s better than dead people)

I was walking out to my office one day last year breathing in the fresh air and loving that winter was over. The birds were singing in the trees and everything felt right in the world. I unlocked the door and went inside, got out my laptop and started working when the most beautiful sound filled my office. It was a high-pitched whistle followed by a warble-warble. I’d never heard this bird before and I felt it was a gift from God.

An hour later the damned bird was still screeching and I was pretty sure it was demon possessed. The next door cat slipped to our side of the fence and began to serenade the cat in heat on the other side of our fence. Even with my ear buds firmly in place and the music blasting me off to early deafness, I could still hear the bird. The bird eventually flew off, apparently frightened by the cat, which was about the time the dog next door decided the kids walking down the street could possibly be escaped convicts and they set up a ruckus and managed to scare the screeching bird back to our yard.

My writing day could have been lost but the cat suddenly became a jaguar and shapeshifted into a handsome hero, the screeching bird became a hawk that shapeshifted into a hot hunky hero, and the dog became a wolf and shapeshifted into another sexy hero. The kids walking down the street became rogue symtarians who were trying to kill impures and now my heroes had to save the impures. Thus, The Jaguar Prince--—in stores now!!!!, The Falcon Prince-Aug, and The Wolf Prince-Nov were created.

The moral of the story: move to the damned country and get more work done! LOL I hope everyone enjoys my new releases!

Have a great day!

LOL you are too funny it must be great to be able to think of things like that becouse I never could have, I'd have trown a rock at the bird to scar it away, the cat would have had learned how to play with the dog, LOL just joking but I love to see how other peoples minds work and yours is great.
(Vickie Hightower 10:02am May 6, 2010)

That is hilarious! It's interesting how ideas develop.
(Marlene Breakfield 12:26pm May 7, 2010)

You have a funny imagnation. Can't wait to read about it.
(Sherry Russell 8:02am May 7, 2010)

HI Everyone! I tell everyone it's all Karl's fault I think the way I do. Been married to the guy too many years. LOL
(Karen Kelley 9:14am May 7, 2010)

What a great way to get ideas - I have annoying pigeons that nest in my garden every year. The noise they make when plying alone is loud enough but when they start coo cooing it grates on your nerves very quickly and is not romantic regardless of what you have heard. Can't wait to read the stories.
(Barbara Hanson 9:18am May 7, 2010)

Sounds like an excellent series. Can't wait to read them.
(Barbara Smith 10:26am May 7, 2010)

The bird, the cat, and then the dog. Who chasing who? And then the hot sexy men came along. HUBBA HUBBA WOW.
(Kai Wong 11:19am May 7, 2010)

Great ideas! Next time I am in a motel with VERY thin walls, I will visualize something other than me killing the people making all the noise!
(Karin Tillotson 11:20am May 7, 2010)

LOL Villian pigeons!
Y'all are so funny! Thanks for the chuckles!!!
(Karen Kelley 11:22am May 7, 2010)

LOL, love how your ideas come about...
(Colleen Conklin 11:33am May 7, 2010)

At least a move to the country would mean that there is more work to be done.
Blessings from a farmers wife.

(Debbi Shaw 12:58pm May 7, 2010)

You have certainly delt with the "country" in a great way. What ideas! wish I could think like you when the birds, dog, kids start up around here!
(Elizabeth Parzino 1:30pm May 7, 2010)

I was actually raised in the country LOL The work never ended!
(Karen Kelley 2:18pm May 7, 2010)

Ha! I like how you get your inspiration.
(Rachael Haas 2:46pm May 7, 2010)

This sounds good but as a loving mother I have to ask.... The noisy annoying things were turned into sexy heros and the innocent children were turned into, and I quote "rogue symtarians who were trying to kill impures"... Just hit me as funny, lol
(Brandy Blake 2:49pm May 7, 2010)

Karen, what a funny post!! When I lived out by the country in California each day was greeted by sqwacking crows. Those annoying things have taught me to wake up early each morning. Grrr...
(Armenia Fox 2:49pm May 7, 2010)

Karen, if you want peace and quiet don't move to the country. I've got youn goats who bleat everytime you step outside, a roosters, whose life mission is to crow from 4am till sunset. A dog who has waged a running war with the squirrels in the oak trees and all sorts of birds who call at all times of the day. Need peace and quiet, your not going to get it here. This series sounds interesting.
(Maude Allen 4:45pm May 7, 2010)

Sounds like fantasy. Looking forward to checking it out.
(Dorothy Swingle 7:06pm May 7, 2010)

I will have to give that a try the next time I'm bothered by noisy wildlife! lol!
(Michelle K 8:02pm May 7, 2010)

What a cute post. Love it.
Just goes to show that inspiration can come from some very unlikely sources.

Now that it's spring even the birds get up early and sing about it. Then I get up and hunt for them out my windows.
(Alyson Widen 8:53pm May 7, 2010)

Those pesky birds have gotten
me up at 6 AM the last two
weeks and darn if that aren't
still at it at almost 9:30 PM.
I so enjoy sleeping with the
windows open but may have to
give up and close them and
have the AC sing me to sleep.
(Lisa Richards 9:20pm May 7, 2010)

I love shapeshifters!
(Diane Sadler 9:27pm May 7, 2010)

Karen, I loved your article and am looking forward to the Jaguar Prince. It sounds like a great book and will definitely be on the top of my must read pile.
(Julie Swaney 10:49pm May 7, 2010)

LOL. Never know what will inspire you. Thanks for sharing.
(Cherie Japp 11:09pm May 7, 2010)

Cute. But it is true. You do get the
sounds of nature. Of course it is
mating season for our peacocks right
now. They are really noisy and I can't
hope they would fly away. They don't
bother me anymore, but I'm not sure
about the neighbors. My son is
threatening them with being Mother's
Day dinner. Then their noise sets off
the neighbors' dogs and ours join in.
The cows in the pasture join in and on
some days (nights) the donkey down
the road joins in. I don't even want to
know what type of shifters are waiting
out there.
(Patricia Barraclough 11:48pm May 7, 2010)

Great sounding story...been added to the list of "To Be Read"...Happy Mother's Day weekend to you...

Karen OMG only you could have taken the
events of that day and spun it into gold,
a pure gem such as you did!

Reframing is one way to resolve issues in your life. I too want to see beautiful men.
(Lindsey Ekland 3:41am May 8, 2010)

How imaginative and the reason that I keep reading!
(Joanne Reynolds 7:25am May 8, 2010)

I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date...but I showed up anyways and now have a new title on my wishlist!!!
(Valerie Bongards 10:10am May 8, 2010)

Out in the country its those wonderful aromas that you have to contend with occasionally.
(Heather Pearson 10:30am May 8, 2010)

This is wonderful, I love big cats, and when an author works them into a story, its bliss. This is fantastic, I can't wait to read it...
(Cathleen Robinson 12:02pm May 8, 2010)

Hi Everyone---sorry I went MIA LOL Our son and d-i-l had their first baby, Cooper William Kelley, 8lb, 7oz, on the 4th. We came back to their house to help out. Let the spoiling begin LOL Rather than hearing the sounds of nature Cooper is letting us know he is here :)
(Karen Kelley 12:23pm May 8, 2010)

I loved the post...I needed a smile to start the day off right! I can hardly wait to read the books that were inspired by a screeching bird, a horny cat and two idiot dogs!
(Patsy Hagen 12:43pm May 8, 2010)

What great inspiration! I lived in LA
for 12 years and it really was a
concrete jungle. I now live in Ohio,
and I'm constantly amazed by the
variety of birds and animals. I've
had a fox and a red tailed hawk in
my backyard. Congrats on your new
books!
(MaryAnne Banks 12:44pm May 8, 2010)

I love hearing how authors come up with the stories I love most. I'm glad you took lemons and made lemonade.
(Kimberly Murray 1:12pm May 8, 2010)

love the idea, sounds like a great read
(Teresa Roberts 2:22pm May 8, 2010)

Someone once told us our backyard looked like an international airport because we have so many birds flying in and out. The bird feed is so worth the entertainment. The barking dogs across the street I can do without! LOL
(Karen Kelley 6:13pm May 8, 2010)

Loved how to see the light side when the rest of the world would have been tearing out clumps of hair over those irrating birds!
(Susan Lathen 10:18pm May 8, 2010)

LMAO... from annoyance to ideas... gotta love nature; and you have to take your creativity where you find it.
(Donna Holmberg 2:21am May 9, 2010)

love shape shifter stories
(Leanne Jacobson 12:40pm May 9, 2010)

My pup ran over to my neighbors...into their home when they left the door open and Peed on their couch :( I wonder if they will write a book about their crazy neighborhood dog! lol
