Peg Cochran | Mysteries with passion

facebooktwitter

I love the world of cozy mysteries!  Small towns where everyone knows everyone but still...there's that one secret that's been kept that leads to...murder!  I've wanted to write mysteries since I was seven years old and read my first Nancy Drew.  One day my parents came home with a used (manual!) typewriter.  The very next day I pretended to be sick so I could stay home from school and begin my very own book—my first mystery!

My passion to become a writer stayed with me over the years although I didn't always work at it—sometimes it was nothing more than wishful thinking.  Then, one day, I decided to get serious.  I realized the best sort of mystery for me was the cozy—I was a huge Agatha Christie and Patricia Wentworth fan so it made sense.  Not all that much blood and gore and plenty of detecting and lots of interesting characters!

Of course every cozy mystery needs a "hook" or something that makes it special.  My other passion is cooking (rather tied into my love of eating!) so I decided I would write a book based on that.  But there are lots of "foodie" mysteries so I needed something more. I decided on someone who produces homemade, low calorie food, hand-delivered to her clients.  And thus Gigi Fitzgerald was born!  Half Italian and half Irish with "an Irish temper and an Italian attitude."  ALLERGIC TO DEATH, my first mystery, became available on August 7. My second, MURDER UNMENTIONABLE, first in the Sweet Nothing Lingerie Series written under my pen name of Meg London, will debut on September 4.

For me, it's a dream come true.  I love creating the cozy worlds my characters live in, and I especially love coming up with the characters.  And every cozy needs a touch of romance...or two!

I do hope you enjoy my two debut books.  I look forward to creating many more adventures for my characters!

ABOUT ALLERGIC TO DEATH

Preparing calorie-conscious meals for the dieters of Woodstone, Connecticut, Gigi Fitzgerald knows a cheater when she sees one. And when murder is on the menu, she’s ready to get the skinny on whodunit...

Business is looking up for Gigi’s Gourmet De-Lite, thanks to her newest client, restaurant reviewer Martha Bernhardt. Martha has the clout to put Gigi’s personal meal plans on everyone’s lips. But instead of dropping a few pounds, Martha drops dead from a severe peanut allergy...right after eating one of Gigi’s signature dishes.

When the distractingly debonair Detective Mertz identifies traces of peanut oil in Martha’s last meal, Gigi suddenly finds her diet catering business on the chopping block. Now she’ll have to track down who tampered with her recipe before her own goose is cooked.

ABOUT MURDER UNMENTIONABLE by Meg London

MURDER UNMENTIONABLELace, lingerie and murder!

Emma Taylor leaves her job as a stylist in New York City to return home to Paris, Tennessee to help her Aunt Arabella renovate her lingerie shop, Sweet Nothings. When Emma discovers that Arabella has a cache of vintage lingerie, Emma realizes they have hit on a fabulous theme for Sweet Nothings. Unfortunately she also discovers a dead body and enough secrets to make everyone in town look suspicious! Emma ends up facing down a murderer with nothing but a bullet bra for a weapon!

About Peg

Peg grew up in a New Jersey suburb about 25 miles outside of New York City. After college, she moved to the City where she managed an art gallery owned by the son of the artist Henri Matisse.

After her husband died, Peg remarried and her new husband took a job in Grand Rapids, Michigan where they now live (on exile from NJ as she likes to joke). Somehow Peg managed to segue from the art world to marketing and is now the manager of marketing communications for a company that provides services to seniors.

She has two cozy mystery series debuting from Berkley Prime Crime— the Sweet Nothings Vintage Lingerie series, written as Meg London, set in Paris, Tennessee and the Gourmet De-Lite series, under her own name, set in Connecticut.  She also has two ebooks on Amazon, a mystery, Confession Is Murder and a young adult book Oh, Brother!

Peg has two daughters, a step-daughter and step-son, a beautiful granddaughter, a cat named Frazzle and a Westhighland white terrier named Reggie.  You can read more at www.pegcochran.com and www.meglondon.com.

I like mysteries and death by food sounds fascinating.

I love mysteries and I think that this book would be good.
(Cynthia St. Germain 1:39pm August 18, 2012)

My two favorite things: a good mystery and food! I love the sounds of the plots
of your novels and am very much looking forward to reading them!
(Connie Fischer 1:41pm August 18, 2012)

oooh mystery & FOOD! yup yup yup
PICK ME!! PICK ME!!
(Pamela Faye Howell 1:47pm August 18, 2012)

I've been on a real cozy kick lately. I started reading mysteries when I was kid because my mother did, then I graduated to a whole host of genres, but find myself needing to read msyteries, specifically cozies again. I enjoy the variety of hooks: bookstores, restaurants, coffee shops, candle making, needlecraft, B&Bs etc. I've requested both books mentioned from my library.
(Anne Muller 1:55pm August 18, 2012)

Cozies are my favorite type of mysteries. We all need to eat so the food aspect sounds good (and will make you hungry, too, if you haven't eaten).
(Michelle Fidler 1:56pm August 18, 2012)

Love cozies fun relaxing. And mix in food tum.
(Rhonda Lomazow 2:04pm August 18, 2012)

Congrats on your two debuts! Love mysteries!
(Colleen Conklin 2:05pm August 18, 2012)

Love mysteries! Death by food always wigs me out...lol...makes me think
twice before eating something I didn't make..lol :)
(Stacy Wright 2:05pm August 18, 2012)

(Debbie Lord 2:13pm August 18, 2012)

(Mary Hay 2:32pm August 18, 2012)

A good mystery and good food...love both (what more could I ask for) except to win this Yummy book!
(Linda Luinstra 3:23pm August 18, 2012)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your posting, as well as your bio today. It drew me in completely, and I'm looking forward to reading your books. I thought that the artwork on Allergic to Death was great, and noticed you had your dog on the cover!! That was precious!! Your other book has a very cute cover as well. I'm sure both books are going to do great, since you have quite a way with words!! It's also nice to know of an author that lives in the same beautiful state as I do. We're about 3 hours apart, but you don't hear about authors who live in your state every day. Congratulations again on your books, and best of luck on your future endeavors.
(Peggy Roberson 3:24pm August 18, 2012)

Peg:
Is that your little white dog, Reggie, sitting on the chair on your bookcover? How adorable!
(Linda Luinstra 3:27pm August 18, 2012)

Congratulations on your publishing of two books. You have chosen excellent subjects.
Blessings,
Marjorie
(Marjorie Carmony 3:41pm August 18, 2012)

I enjoy reading a good mystery. Both Allergic to Death and Murder Unmentionable sound like good reads.
(Blanche Nixon 3:53pm August 18, 2012)

Food and books are both weaknesses of mine. Allergic to Death sounds like a hoot.
(G. Bisbjerg 5:08pm August 18, 2012)

sounds like a great read and i cant wait!!!
(Jennifer Beck 5:16pm August 18, 2012)

Love cozies - congratulations on your two releases!
(Mary C 5:24pm August 18, 2012)

Interesting mix for a mystery.
(Jan D 5:47pm August 18, 2012)

Sounds like a fun read, enjoyed your blog.
(Sheila True 5:51pm August 18, 2012)

Yes, that is my dog Reg on the cover! He's in the book, too. He insisted on it. He sits right next to me when I write and is convinced he's half-written the book himself. But instead of royalties, he gets treats.
(Peg Cochran 5:57pm August 18, 2012)

I can't wait to read it !
(Gerry Sheets 6:09pm August 18, 2012)

I love it when there are recipes and a great story. My cats watch me write.
(Jo Anne Benware 6:17pm August 18, 2012)

Sounds like a good read, and I love the title and cover.
(Gayle Cochrane 6:25pm August 18, 2012)

Love fun mysteries. :)
(May Pau 6:59pm August 18, 2012)

Both series look like wonderful new cozies. Look
forward to reading them & getting to meet Reg. :)
(Stacie Amelotte 7:00pm August 18, 2012)

Peg, Your books are just the type of mystery that I like to change pace from those hard, brain twisting thrillers. I will be following both of your new series. Murder and food go together so well, but undies????? You may have a new insight on grabbing our attention.
(Rosemary Simm 7:02pm August 18, 2012)

I read any that have mysteries. I like to figure out who done it and why.
(Kai Wong 7:07pm August 18, 2012)

I love mysteries. Thanks for the chance to win!!
(Natasha Donohoo 7:41pm August 18, 2012)

The book description really caught my eye because the mode of death is peanuts. My son is severly food allergic so I always notice when it is part of a story.
(Jennifer Beyer 8:02pm August 18, 2012)

I love cozies and these both sound like must reads!!
(Kelli Jo Calvert 9:04pm August 18, 2012)

Sounds like some fun reads.
(Shannon Scott 9:31pm August 18, 2012)

I've loved mysteries ever since my Mom introduced me to Nancy Drew as a child. Thanks so much for the contest to win a copy. Sounds like a good one. Putting it on my TBR list.
(Teresa Ward 10:22pm August 18, 2012)

Oooh. These look like great books! I love food and mystery
together. Thanks for the contest, I have not read these yet
and just added you to my TBR list.
(Vanessa Primer 10:36pm August 18, 2012)

Always glad to see a new mystery series. I am so happy to see this series featured on FreshFiction.
(Shari Santella 10:44pm August 18, 2012)

Is it too late to enter????? I just saw this on Fresh Fiction! Kudos to you for your imaginative book!
(Susan Coster 11:20pm August 18, 2012)

Sounds like a fun and entertaining book. Please count me in for the contest. Thanks!
(Tamsyn Takamiya 11:26pm August 18, 2012)

I have read only a few "domestic" mysteries, but I enjoyed them, and would like to read a few more. I'm a lousy cook, but I loved sewing until illness affected my right hand and arm into the back and shoulder and put a stop to that as well.
(Sigrun Schulz 11:42pm August 18, 2012)

This book sounds like so much fun!
(Jackie Stieghorst 11:49pm August 18, 2012)

Cozies are my fall back books when ever I need a break from
the YA, PR, UF. They tend to clear my mind much the way
sherbet does your palate.
(Lisa Richards 12:25pm August 19, 2012)

I love a good mystery but I too can do without the blood and gore. I am looking foward to reading one of your books.
(Kathleen Yohanna 2:44am August 19, 2012)

Just fabulous!! I would love to read ALLERGIC TO DEATH thank you.
(Mary Preston 4:31am August 19, 2012)

These stories explore the human side of the mystery without focusing on the police procedural or the mind of the killer... they are an antidote to the depressing grim realities of crime. They are also positive as they show people working together and getting on with their lives. Best of luck with your books.
(Clare O'Beara 6:45am August 19, 2012)

Your book sounds like the perfect recipe for murder and mystery.
Delectable results in the end, I hope =)
(Samantha King 7:22am August 19, 2012)

Thank you for the opportunity to win.
(Cheryl Stillwell 9:18am August 19, 2012)

Have much in common with you. From CT but have kins in Paris, TN and "Bailee" was my beloved Maltese that passed after 14 years of love and devotion. And I am married to an Italian that loves to cook. Perfect combo. Keep writing,
Pat Pascale
(Patricia (Pat) Pascale 9:26am August 19, 2012)

I haven't read this series yet but I do like cozies.
(Sandy Giden 10:57am August 19, 2012)

love mysteries!! LOVE free books!!! PICK ME!
(Pamela Faye Howell 11:12am August 19, 2012)

I like light-hearted mysteries, no gore for me, please! So this looks right up my alley! =)
(Kathleen Conner 11:57am August 19, 2012)

Mysteries with food are my favorite and if recipes are included it's even better.
(Alyson Widen 4:48pm August 19, 2012)

I recently just started reading (cozy) mysteries and discovered my new favorite type of read : ) i don't care for the gore either. These books sound like wonderful reads would love to be entered in your contest : )

(Barbara Studer 8:14pm August 19, 2012)

Wow! I love these stories already - I always love "meeting" new authors, new characters, new storylines - how cool!
(Felicia Ciaudelli 7:11am August 20, 2012)

Your books sounds like a fun read. I have an allergy to peanuts so will be
interested in seeing how you deal with food allergies.
(Joy Isley 2:29pm August 20, 2012)

I'm looking forward to your books---Allergic to Death should be fun since I've had count my calories for years---and cozies are just plain fun.
(Sue Farrell 4:06pm August 20, 2012)

Cozy mysteries make good reading.
