Allison Chase | Revenge of the Nerdy Hero!

Who remembers that wonderful old movie from the eighties, Revenge Of The Nerds, about 2 gawky kids who go off to college eager for good times and a taste of freedom? Things quickly go from bad to worse for the ungainly pair as they get pummeled by jocks, snubbed by the pretty girls, and ignored by college administrators. But by the end of the movie, our intrepid geeks not only prove they're much smarter than their popular counterparts – by winning the day through some cool, high tech antics – but they're sexier and more desirable, too! Why? Because they take the time to figure out what makes a girl happy. In fact, the nerdiest nerd of all ends up stealing the gorgeous head cheerleader away from the captain of the football team. Who among us didn't cheer at the very end when all the nerds stood tall and proud to the tune of Queen's We Are The Champions? I know I did!

There's no getting around it, Simon de Burgh, the hero of OUTRAGEOUSLY YOURS (book 2 in my Victorian series, Her Majesty's Secret Servants) is a nerd – of sorts. While rowing and wrestling at Cambridge University have sculpted his bod to hunky perfection, it's his mind that truly attracts heroine Ivy Sutherland. As a scientist, he's both a genius and a visionary, working to bring electricity into everyday use, plus a few extraordinary uses he's keeping under wraps for now. If things occasionally go BOOM up in his tower laboratory and sparks start shooting through the skylight, well, it's all in the name of progress…and passion.

Ivy is no lightweight in the brains department either. She might not be university educated, but this spunky girl spent enough time in her uncle's library to earn her a place as Simon's new assistant, albeit after she has cropped her curls, donned trousers and changed her name to Ned. She doesn't fool Simon for long, though, and pretty soon the irresistible powers of electromagnetism take on a whole new meaning. Together Simon and Ivy prove that being smart is very, very sexy!

When I first started writing OUTRAGEOUSLY YOURS, I found myself scrambling to take a crash course in Victorian physics…and Victorian Sci Fi. Now, my favorite subjects in school were the non-math and science ones, like English, history, or philosophy. I'm never one to do anything the easy way though, so why not write a story based on something I completely don't understand? Yet, as I researched currents, amps and electrons, I actually had flashes of comprehension – exciting moments for me! Oh, it's all gone now, of course, but I found it pretty thrilling to get inside the heads of the nerds who ushered in the modern age and all the cool technology we enjoy today. They're all heroes in my book!

If you ask me, it's the nerds of this world who are the most passionate about what they do, and who aren't afraid to throw their hearts and souls into something, whether it's a project or a relationship. And isn't that what being a hero is all about?

OUTRAGEOUSLY YOURS will be released on Dec. 7th. To find out more about the story, please visit my website. You can also find me on my blog, or on Facebook.

OUTRAGEOUSLY YOURS sounds pretty good. I look forward in readingHer Majesty's Secret Servants series.
(Tracey Dent 11:05am November 30, 2010)

I married a nerd too (ok, don't tell him I said that, but it is true). And all I have to say is: remember the end of Revenge Of The Nerds? These men will bring more to a relationship than guys who are full of themselves, guys who know they are good-looking, or guys who are so wrapped up in gaining power or money that the women in their lives take 3rd or 4th place.

Your books sound like a lot of fun (esp for us girls who were the slightly brain-y ones themselves. The sort-of nerds). Thanks for the contest!
(Victoria Colyer-Kerr 12:46pm November 30, 2010)

ooh this book sounds great! I love nerds!
Thanks for the giveaway!

My boyfriend is a tech "nerd" and there's nothing hotter than
watching his fingers at work inside a computer.
(Cathie Veres 5:07pm November 30, 2010)

Nerds can be wonderful!
Blessings!

(Marjorie Carmony 5:32pm November 30, 2010)

I love the thought of adding the humor of a "nerd" to this novel. A terrifically "novel" idea! As the wife of a "nerd" for 43 years, I can truthfully say I totally adore him and his "nerdy" ways."
(Connie Fischer 5:54pm November 30, 2010)

I've loved your other books- would love to win this time!
Happy Christmas

Loved the revenge of the nerds movies. So much fun. Looking forward to reading Revenge of the Nerdy Heroes. Thanks for the contest.
(Teresa Ward 6:15pm November 30, 2010)

Your book sounds wonderful for two reasons. I just love the Victorian era and stories surrounding Queen Victoria. And, I love stories where the hero is a little awkward and nerdy. :) I look forward to reading it! One question, do you need to read book #1 to know the story or to follow book #2? Many related stories can be read as stand alones, but I've read several of Nora Roberts trilogies where you can't just pick up book 2 and read it because there is an underlying story or problem that is unfinished until the trilogy ends. (I really hate those kinds of books). Thanks!
(MaryAnne Banks 7:31pm November 30, 2010)

Sounds really good.
(Sue Brandes 8:36pm November 30, 2010)

I'm thinking I really want to read this book!
(Pamela Stewart 8:58pm November 30, 2010)

sounds like a good escape
(Catherine Myers 9:44pm November 30, 2010)

Can't wait to read it!
(QuenKne M 10:00pm November 30, 2010)

I married my nerd. He's smart and hot. A great combination. Would love
to read your book.
(Leanne Jacobson 10:08pm November 30, 2010)

Simon sounds like my kind of nerd. My family is full of nerds, so always enjoy a good nerd story and will be snatching this one off the shelf.
(Sharon Mitchell 11:02pm November 30, 2010)

Sounds great and would love to win. Thanks..
(Brenda Hill 11:23pm November 30, 2010)

I loved the first book in this series and I'm looking forward to this one. Thanks for visiting!
(G S Moch 9:35am December 1, 2010)

Popping in to say good morning and thank everyone so far for all the wonderful comments. It's so heartening to see so much appreciation for the nerds of this world! Nerds rule!
Hugs, Allison
(Allison Chase 9:49am December 1, 2010)

I want to read this story - please enter me into your contest
(Audra Holtwick 10:33am December 1, 2010)

I can't wait to read Outrageously yours and I'll have to get a copy for my daughter-in-law who married my son, the "nerd".

Picture a short kid in grade school with a leg brace and a patch on one eye and then junior high with glasses & braces who grew up to be handsome, gentle, compassionate and smart enough to marry a beautiful woman who is even smarter than he is!

I loved your post and you don't have to be a nerd to love one!
(Jeanne Miro 11:46am December 1, 2010)

I like books with characters who mind their shape. Rowing or crew as some call it is a sport that takes precision, discipline and practice like all sports. Most don't know that the legs are the chief power source there. Looks like a good read.
(Alyson Widen 2:19pm December 1, 2010)

I loved that movie. I would love to win your book!
(Susie Kerner 2:37pm December 1, 2010)

I was such a nerd in school---I would like to get some revenge now.
(Sue Farrell 2:37pm December 1, 2010)

I LOVED Revenge of the Nerds! "Where did you learn THAT?! Well, it's all we think about." And this books sounds like lots of fun! Math and Science were my best subjects, though I did well in English, also.
(Kelli Jo Calvert 2:57pm December 1, 2010)

I think that we are all heros, AND nerds too. I know I got my Clark Kent/Superman when we met on my 45th birthday, and married last May!
(Debra Simning-Chapman 3:11pm December 1, 2010)

Congrats on the upcoming release. I loved the first book in the series.
(Jane Cheung 3:17pm December 1, 2010)

Hooray for nerds! On behalf of nerds everywhere, thank you, Allison, for writing a nerd hero *and* making him sexy!
(S Tieh 4:07pm December 1, 2010)

The nerds of today generally rule the world tomorrow.
(Mary Preston 4:24pm December 1, 2010)

Wow, this nerd theme seems to have struck a chord! One of the points the movie made was that most people are NOT part of the popular, "beautiful" crowd, but are flawed, vulnerable, real, and amazing in their unique way. In my book, Simon has already embraced his inner nerd. Ivy discovers hers, and she couldn't be happier about it.
(Allison Chase 4:46pm December 1, 2010)

I can understand the whole mind thing..even better if you have the body to go w/it...Enjoyed the post and I LOVED the first in this series..Tickled that she's an Ivy too..
(Ivy Truitt 5:31pm December 1, 2010)

Nerds are very interesting folks! I've had surprisingly interesting conversations with many of them.
(Ivy Pittman 5:37pm December 1, 2010)

Tickled to find a real life Ivy out there! I hope you'll like my Ivy!
(Allison Chase 5:38pm December 1, 2010)

Nerds rule! It's so much easier to live with someone who is
brainy than someone who is in love with them-self.
(Lisa Richards 6:04pm December 1, 2010)

Oh man, nerds rule the world after college.
(Cate Sparks 6:13pm December 1, 2010)

A man with a brain is sexy as all get out. Your latest sounds like it will be a blast.
(Maude Allen 6:29pm December 1, 2010)

I look forward to reading it.
(Joanne Bozik 6:33pm December 1, 2010)

Love reading books like this. Sounds like fun, I can't wait.
(Linda Pillow 6:54pm December 1, 2010)

I love a characters transformation, from nerd to hunk is so much fun!
(Diane Sallans 7:17pm December 1, 2010)

Oh, I love the brainy hero and the heroine who is smart enough to appreciate him. I can't wait to read Outrageously Yours.
(Barbara Elness 7:45pm December 1, 2010)

Sounds good. Nothing wrong with being a nerd. I was considered a bit of a nerd in high school and survived.
(Cherie Japp 7:52pm December 1, 2010)

Thank you, everyone, for your interest and your comments!
(Allison Chase 10:17pm December 1, 2010)

I'm all for the nerds of the world. Would rather have someone intelligent to talk to than someone that is nice to look at but you can't carry on a conversation with. That sucks. However if both come in the same package, that wouldn't be all that bad, lol!
(Vicki Hancock 10:49pm December 1, 2010)

Nerds need love too! I used to be a nerd in school too. I see someone else put that down.
(Brenda Rupp 11:16pm December 1, 2010)

Smart guys are always the best. The book sounds great.
(Ginger Hinson 11:41pm December 1, 2010)

Your book sounds like it will not only be a book on History, but a fun read!! The way I look at it, if you learn something new, it's a good day!! I always try to learn one new thing a day, if possible. I don't always succeed, but the internet, and interacting with my friends makes it a lot easier to do. I commend you on your research, and congratulate you on your book.
(Peggy Roberson 9:52am December 2, 2010)

This sounds like a fascinating story, one that I will enjoy.
(Anna Speed 3:14pm December 2, 2010)

Your book sounds really interesting. I have always loved to read, but never thought anything about it until my exboyfriend started calling me a book nerd while we were dating. I wasn't too happy at first, but after a while I was like well, I guess you got a point and ended up not minding him calling me that.
(Amy Christian 7:29pm December 2, 2010)

A hero with a brain. That sounds like an awesome read.Love the cover art for Outrageously Yours!!!
