Sara Lindsey | SOME VALENTINE DAY HERO RECOMMENDATIONS

I love Valentine’s Day. I love hearts and flowers and chocolates and secret admirers and the color pink. I know Valentine’s Day is generally regarded as a holiday celebrating couples, but I’ve always embraced it as a day to celebrate all the loving relationships in my life. Flying solo on Valentine’s Day used to be a single woman’s nightmare - like being dateless for the prom - but now February 14th is the perfect excuse for a luxurious girls’ night out.

But what happens at the end of the evening? Well, whatever your relationship status, as a romance reader you never have to worry about going to bed alone! Using some hero archetypes, here are my picks for your Valentine’s Day book-date - pick one depending on your mood or, if you’re feeling adventurous, cuddle up with them all for a romance read-a-thon...

The Professor:

There’s something about a man with a big ... brain ... that always makes my heart beat faster. Just think about those early scenes in Indiana Jones when Harrison Ford is in his tweed suit lecturing about ancient civilizations... whew! Sign me up for study hall!

Sara Says: The sexiest professor I’ve come across in a long time is the enigmatic Alexi Rychman from Leanna Renee Hieber's The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker.

The Best Friend:

I love stories where the heroine realizes that her perfect hero is the boy next door, the man with a heart of gold who waited patiently as she made her way through all the Mr. Wrongs. This probably explains my deep and abiding love for all those ’80s teen movies...

Sara Says: I’m going with a classic hero for this one. My heart still goes pitter-pat for the upright, uptight Mr. Knightley from Jane Austen’s Emma.

The Charmer:

You never notice when the charmer is working his magic, but time flies when you’re by his side, and everything seems somehow special. Of course, he’ll claim you are the special magic, but what’s so wrong with that? A little flattery never hurt anybody.

Sara Says: If I’m going to have sweet nothings whispered in my ear, let them be from the roguish Earl of Mayne from Eloisa James Pleasure for Pleasure.

The Bad Boy:

I can’t resist a rebel, with or without a cause, and I’m a goner if that bad boy is actually one of the secret good guys working in Special Ops! A man who can drive fast and shoot straight makes me think he’s probably got some other hidden talents, if you know what I mean…

Sara Says: My bad boy of choice is the seriously sexy Dylan Hart, leader of the Steele Street gang, from Tara Janzen Crazy Love.

The Man’s Man:

We all complain now and then about how we wish men could be a bit more civilized, and yet there’s something undeniably sexy about a guy who refuses to be tamed. Watching a no-wife-no-babies-no-way alpha loner fall head over heels is one of my very favorite romance tropes.

SaraSays: The alpha I want to be all for me is James Malory, the swashbuckling hero of Johanna Lindsey’s Gentle Rogue.

I’d also like to recommend my debut historical romance, Promise Me Tonight, for your Valentine’s Day reading pleasure. You can find out more about the book and read an excerpt at my website: www.saralindsey.net.

(Ayesha Masood 8:55am February 12, 2010)

I love the boy next door scenario.
I married the boy next door.
I also celebrate Valentine's day with my family. I send sappy cards. bake heart shaped cookies with frosting and buy enough conversation hearts to open my own candy store.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Count me in on the contest.
(Gigi Hicks 9:07am February 12, 2010)

(Crystal Broyles 9:19am February 12, 2010)

I love this list! The Professor made me smile so I'm going to have to go with him! It was the Indiana Jones reference. Seems I have a weakness for a man in tweed, LOL
(Amber Leigh Williams 9:59am February 12, 2010)

Hi, Sara! Congratulations on your book release. I'm so excited for you!

I love the rough, tough, "gruff with a big heart" Alpha Male. Someone masculine, smart, sexy, protective and slightly possessive. The love of my life is Sam Elliott : ) Happy Valentine's Day!!!
(Ginger Campbell 12:27pm February 12, 2010)

I love the cover of this book, it just screams ROMANTIC! Best Wishes!
(Jane Lange 12:50pm February 12, 2010)

A warm pick-me-up for a cold snowy day!
(Danelle Drake 2:12pm February 12, 2010)

What a nice contest. I keeping hearing very good things about this book.
(Kim C 2:23pm February 12, 2010)

The Professor is first with his smart brain and all that stuff he wants to explain. The Charmer runs a close second because I never get tired of hearing sweet nothings. He's overflowing with romance to sway my mind his way. The powers of persuasion are a force to be reckoned with in his hands.
(Alyson Widen 2:54pm February 12, 2010)

I think that I would go with the Bad Boy. Rhett Butler still makes my heart beat faster. Thank you for an interesting post.
(Rosemary Krejsa 3:13pm February 12, 2010)

Historical fiction is my favorite genre! My
hubby is baking me a coconut cake from
scratch - he pounded the coconuts too!
He's my V-day hero.
(Molly Wilsbacher 4:26pm February 12, 2010)

This sounds like the type of book to read on V Day and get you in the mood.

Cynthia
(Cynthia Plaza-Harney 5:06pm February 12, 2010)

This wins my Heart. I go for the Bad Boy. Love to tame the Wildness but still keep love live! Also Sam Elliott is the Love of my Life...in my dreams.

Keep the Fantastic Reads coming. Great Story....Be still my beating heart...Woot Woot.
(Shirley Sego 5:16pm February 12, 2010)

You are a new author for me and
your book sounds interesting! I
look forward to reading your
books!
(Rebecca DeCourley 5:30pm February 12, 2010)

I love them all but the Man's Man & The Professor get my heart racing.
(Mary Preston 5:54pm February 12, 2010)

I agree with your broader take on Valentine's Day. As for the "Romance readers never go to bed alone" saying, I really need that on a nightshirt.
(G. Bisbjerg 7:28pm February 12, 2010)

You certainly put in a good plug for all of the types and I love variety. I think I met all of them at times. LOL
(Gladys Paradowski 7:32pm February 12, 2010)

If your book is anything close to Johanna Lindsay's I would love to try it. Good luck with your writing.
(Diane Sadler 8:08pm February 12, 2010)

This book looks yummy and I'd love a chance to win it!!!
(Mitzi Hinkey 9:32pm February 12, 2010)

We should celebrate romance everyday
not just once a year! Thank you for being
one of the many authors that make it
possible.
(Jung Ja Ahn 9:46pm February 12, 2010)

:o)
(Julia Blanco 12:37pm February 13, 2010)

Just the title "Promise Me Tonight" makes me want to read it!
(Patsy Hagen 12:41pm February 13, 2010)

I love the theme of the boy or girl next door. Sometimes you just don't realize what you already have.
(Sigrun Schulz 12:46pm February 13, 2010)

I have not read any book written by you. I will definitely stop by the bookstore and take a look at your book.
(Kai Wong 2:35pm February 13, 2010)

I wonder how many across the country have been snowed-in for Valentine's Day before. I guess everyone saw where there was snow in 49 out of our 50 states this week...the exception being Hawaii and they checked the top of the volcano there hoping to make a record of snow in all 50 states. No snow was found on the top of the volcano even though there has been snow there in the past.
(Gladys Paradowski 7:47pm February 13, 2010)

I love the charmer. Somehow, having a good laugh while he's turning it on just appeals to me. Happy Valentine's Day.
(Armenia Fox 9:14pm February 13, 2010)

Yesterday, Feb 12th was my Birthday and I would love to Win your Contest. Thank you for entering me and I love to enter the FreshFiction.com Contests daily. God bless, [email protected]
