Jennifer Lyon | Possessed By A Dragon?

Thanks so much for having me today! I love writing about witches and the heroes that love them. There is something very sexy and compelling about a man who falls in love, supports and protects a woman of power—power that he will never have on his own. That is a strong man! A true hero. A man that can bring any woman to her knees.

After I finished writing NIGHT MAGIC, a story of a true hero rising, I started to worry. In that book Phoenix Torq loves his witch, the blind, yet powerful Ailish Donovan, so much that he is willing to do anything for her. Anything. And he proves it in a fiery way. When I was done with their story, I wasn't sure another hero could interest me that much again.

And then I met Dyfyr, the dragon that lives in the hero of SINFUL MAGIC, Kieran "Key" DeMicca. In all my years of writing, I've never experienced anything like this. When I wrote Dyfyr's scenes—this huge, ancient, and indescribably powerful dragon's scenes—they were effortless. As if he stood by me, telling me what to type. I have had occasional writing spurts like that, but with this dragon—every single scene was as if I were writing from memory. His memory.

Here's the thing, while I write and love paranormal, I'm not a big believer in real life. I'm not a disbeliever, but I don't consult psychics or follow astrology, I walk under ladders and encourage black cats to cross in front of me. Under normal circumstances, when something strange happens to me, I look for logical explanations. But it was different with Dyfyr, that dragon appeared and took hold of me until I became obsessed with telling his story.

Actually it is their story—Roxy, a very special witch; Key a sexy and lethal hunter; and Dyfyr, a dragon so incredible, mortals cannot see him. Separately, they are interesting, amazing really. But together—they become a passionate and timeless love story that I was compelled to tell, and nothing could stop me until I finished.

So I have to wonder, was all this just my imagination? Or did an ancient dragon really find a way to connect with me and compel me to tell this story? Logically, I don't believe it, but deep in my soul...I'm not so sure. Tell me if you think it's possible that I was possessed by a dragon while writing this story, and you'll be entered into a contest. One lucky commenter will win a signed copy of each book: NIGHT MAGIC and SINFUL MAGIC.

Re: Jennifer Lyon | Possessed By A Dragon?

Interesting concept. I don't know about dragons, but there are times when a
feeling of connection to a someone or something just can't be denied. I have
felt strong connections to places I have never before visited and times I have not
lived. If dragons do exist, then why couldn't these magical creatures connect
with one of us to tell their story?
(Patricia Barraclough 12:13pm May 31, 2011)

I definitely think it's possible!
(Robin Daily 12:20pm May 31, 2011)

It could happen. I know I have a friend who believes that when a person has a strong desire to go to a new country, it's because their soul was there at one point. She also felt a strong connection when she first met her husband, and she believes it's because their souls know each other.
Anything is possible.....
(Shalaena Bittick 2:32am May 31, 2011)

Great guest post!!
(Emily Davis 9:00am May 31, 2011)

A muse can take many forms right? :)

I'm a fan of Dragon worlds so I am off to find your 1st book in the series now! Thanks!
(Sabrina Shields 9:15am May 31, 2011)

I think it's so cool to hear about the writing process from writers. To think that the characters are in the room with you having conversations with you is so amazing. It's a peek into someone's brain! Good luck in your future endeavors!
(Renee Pajda 9:21am May 31, 2011)

I'm a fan of paranormal & love dragons! So I say yes, anything is possible!

(Cecilia Dunbar Hernandez 9:31am May 31, 2011)

Not possible. But sometimes dreams seem so vivid when I wake up it felt real. And it is nice to believe the possibility.
(Pam Howell 9:49am May 31, 2011)

Why not? Anything is possible? Love Dragons...can't wait to read your books! Thanks for sharing!!
(Dawn Staniszeski 11:53am May 31, 2011)

I find that I like paranormal book a lot more than I thought, its good to change up every once in a while.
(Joyce Bruner 12:14pm May 31, 2011)

well i have always tried to keep in mind that quote"there are more things in heaven and earth..." sorry i can't remember the rest right now. the point is we don't know everything and we shouldn't assume we do. so who knows maybe it was your dragon!
(Tammy Ramey 12:52pm May 31, 2011)

I love your post! I also cannot wait to read your books!
They sound like they are right up my alley!
(Leanne Gagnon 2:12pm May 31, 2011)

Who knows... if a story wants to be told then share it! Love the covers for your books, have to look for them...sounds like something I would enjoy reading!
(Colleen Conklin 2:15pm May 31, 2011)

Patricia, it's an intriguing possibility, isn't it?

Robin, good to know I'm not alone in thinking it's possible!

Shalaean, soul-memory is an interesting concept!

Emily, thank you.
(Jennifer Lyon 2:24pm May 31, 2011)

This is how I see thing. Just because you can't see them or feel them doesn't mean it's not true. So you never know. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
(Maria Ramey 2:28pm May 31, 2011)

I believe all folklore and myth has some basis of truth. Dragons (in great detail) have been a part of stories for a very long time. Fossils prove that Dinosaurs existed. Would it be that far of a stretch for scientists to one day find evidence of a dragon like creature? I would never say never....
(Christine Stack 2:30pm May 31, 2011)

Yes, I think you could have been possessed by a dragon. From reading your books I would venture to say your characters possess you all the time otherwise I don't think they would come across as good as they do.
(Victoria Sloboda 2:30pm May 31, 2011)

Sabrina, Dragon's rock!

Renee, some people think it's amazing, others think it's weird, but my family all thinks it's normal now :-)

Cherie, wouldn't it be awesome to meet a real dragon since anything is possible? Unless the dragon was in a bad mood...

Cecilia, I'm happy to do the contest!
(Jennifer Lyon 2:31pm May 31, 2011)

Pam, it is nice to dream about the possibility!

Dawn, always great to meet another dragon lover!

Joyce, I agree, change adds spice to our reading!

Tammy, I'm with you on keeping an open mind!
(Jennifer Lyon 2:34pm May 31, 2011)

Leann, I'm so glad to hear that!

Colleen, thanks! Random House has done great covers for the series, I've been very lucky.

Maria, good points!

Christine, I always wonder if dragon fossils will be found one day. It would be amazing!

Victoria, thank you! I try to make the characters as real as possible!
(Jennifer Lyon 2:37pm May 31, 2011)

That's an interesting theory. :) As long as they made your books interesting to read, why not? :)
(May Pau 2:43pm May 31, 2011)

Thanks for a great post. Dragons are beautiful creatures, so if you had to be possessed, what better way to do it?
(Betty King 2:46pm May 31, 2011)

Yes! Believe!! Go with it!!! Peter Pan told the children that nothing would
happen unless you believed. I love the concept and all the possibilities!
(Sandra Spilecki 2:54pm May 31, 2011)

I suppose anything is possible. I always think dragons are such interesting characters, they add a really intriguing theme to a book.
(Jean Patton 2:56pm May 31, 2011)

Oh yes definitely think you were. I remember you blogging about it. I have my fingers crossed that I win. I am dying to have a signed book by you.
(Amanda Fenley 2:59pm May 31, 2011)

I love stories with Dragons...of course you were..I would love a chance to win a signed copy of your book..Thank you
(Leisa Prater 3:04pm May 31, 2011)

Were you burning up inside? Just like a dragon? Of Course! Dragons are the most alluring of the mythical creatures and part of every culture. Thank you for the chance to win and your series is great.
(Sandy Lion 3:07pm May 31, 2011)

Congrats on the new release, Jen. I don't think it was just your imagination at all.
(Jane Cheung 3:20pm May 31, 2011)

I love the series Jennifer. Its nice change to have a dragon. It fits keys
personality. Looking forward to reading about it:)
(Angel Martin 3:23pm May 31, 2011)

What an image you project of a bigger than life dragon and all the attending nuances that go with it. Can't say that I've come across many dragons good or evil, but they do seem to be able to turn their fire on and off at will.
(Alyson Widen 3:36pm May 31, 2011)

These books look awesomoe. have not read anything by this author yet, but have been looking forward to. thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win. Please choose me for the contest.
[email protected]
(Chris Bails 3:41pm May 31, 2011)

Why not? If nothing else, your imagination could certainly bring up a fully-developed dragon... Thanks for the insight to your writing process too!
(Cate Sparks 3:50pm May 31, 2011)

I totally believe anything is possible. If you believe in your heart that Dyfyr was standing next to you guiding you, then I believe it. There has to be more out there in the world than what we all see.
I'm sooooo excited for this contest. I am dying to get signed books by you for my collection. Since you wont be in NY anytime soon :-( this would be amazing to win. :-)
(Carla Gallway 3:59pm May 31, 2011)

Jen, I got a tear in my eye when I read this... Key & Phoenix are so close to my heart I don't know how to thank you for writing these stories.. as far as being possessed.. If it was Dyfyr. Sure why the heck not!!!!
Love you to pieces girl,
Kelly M
(Kelly Mueller 4:14pm May 31, 2011)

There is so much in this world that we know nothing about, so why couldn't you be possessed by a Dragon? Love this series!
(Jill Merriott 4:22pm May 31, 2011)

Although its their stories being told, I'm sure that you would find that they speak with your voice.
(Renee Grandinetti 4:30pm May 31, 2011)

It's an interesting concept for sure. The world is still young. We've only just begun to explore the infinite possibilities! I think anything is possible until someone can proof it otherwise.
(Holly Caulfield 4:56pm May 31, 2011)

Sounds like a good story to me. I love reading science fiction/fantasy/paranormal as much as romance and mystery.
(Theresa Norris 5:00pm May 31, 2011)

Thanks for giving me a chance to win your book. It sounds very interesting.
(Linda Hall 5:37pm May 31, 2011)

It's not only possible, it's highly probable! Yes, I also believe in the Loch Ness Monster. As someone who was born on Friday the 13th, I can't afford NOT to believe!!

Later,

Lynn
(Lynn Rettig 5:46pm May 31, 2011)

I say it is very possible you are possessed. I love supernatural books. I am with you in believing though. I know it is not posssible but wouldn't be cool to have a pet dragon or be a wizard or witch.
(Sherie Lagarde 5:53pm May 31, 2011)

Being possessed by a dragon would certainly take you to some interesting places in time & reality.
(Mary Preston 5:55pm May 31, 2011)

Sure why not. There is the old saying about authors bringing characters to life. I would only start to get concerned if you get a craving for whatever it is dragons eat. LOL.
I would love to read this book.
(Debbie Penny 5:59pm May 31, 2011)

I think it's quite possible that you were possessed by a
dragon while writing this story! You should think it happened
as well. Just think of all the trouble you could blame on your
dragon possession lol!

(Megan Root 6:18pm May 31, 2011)

Sounds good to me. Also sounds like a good plot for a book.
(Carol Drummond 6:42pm May 31, 2011)

I always think of Shakespeare's "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." So maybe dragon possession is possible.
(r w 7:16pm May 31, 2011)

I would have to say you just have an awesome imagination. LOL. Great covers, btw!
(Billie Deese 7:34pm May 31, 2011)

I think we all carry a love for dragons from the time we are children. Sound like a great book
(Diane Castiglione 7:57pm May 31, 2011)

Strange things happen all the time,so anything is possible.
(Deb Pelletier 8:01pm May 31, 2011)

I like to think that all things are possible!! I too love the covers!
(Jeanne Sheats 8:02pm May 31, 2011)

I definitely believe it's possible. I've heard many an author talk about the voices in their heads (mainly their main characters). So why not a dragon's voice? :)
(MaryAnne Banks 8:04pm May 31, 2011)

Fantasy and Magic - what a sinful combination! Oh rescue me
sexy dragon slayer!
(Karen Gonzalez 8:08pm May 31, 2011)

Anything is possible! Your books sound wonderful!
(Jody Hollenbeck 8:36pm May 31, 2011)

I love witches and dragons and the combintion sounds amazing. I can't wait to read both books. I have my book wishlist and it keeps getting longer with books i want to read.
(Elaine Bishop 9:00pm May 31, 2011)

A dragon would be a strong spirit, so if it wanted it's story written, it would need to find someone to write it. Why not you?
(Sharon Mitchell 9:01pm May 31, 2011)

Witch power would be fabulous! And dragons are the new vampire right!
(Diane Sallans 10:01pm May 31, 2011)

I think a dragon could definitely possess the power to share their memories with you. Your books sound wonderful!
(Sharla Long 10:07pm May 31, 2011)

Hi Jenn! I love reading about witches! Its a treasure to find those reads Both NIGHT MACIG and SINFUL MAGIC sound so way neat! I too don't believe in most but I love to feel it as its real when I read it! ITs a great way to jump into the world. So for sure you were possessed when writing. Thats why we love reading these, they feel so real! I'd love to be in the contest. Thanks!
(Cathie Morton 10:20pm May 31, 2011)

I think it's great to be inspired from where ever it comes from!
(Linda Leonard 10:22pm May 31, 2011)

Definitely a possibility. Going to read it and then see what I
think!
(Lisa Richards 10:29pm May 31, 2011)

The possession is that of the creative spirit that took hold, possibly in the form of a dragon to you. I think that when one is truly inspired that the muse takes shape and form, the work of art (be it a book, a painting, etc) is seperate but a piece of that muse. That fire that burned inside of you was the breath of life that you brought into your work. I can't wait to read.
(Carla Carlson 10:39pm May 31, 2011)

My wish list keeps growing and my bookshelves are sagging! Oh my. But please keep writing!!!
Thanks,
(Patti Paonessa 10:40pm May 31, 2011)

I think that it's possible that you were nudged along for the story by somebody by your past. You had the story in your head, but somebody in your past helped you along the rest of the way. Congratulations on your book. It sounds like a good read, and I can't wait to read it, even though it's something totally out of my genre. Your blog hooked me.
(Peggy Roberson 10:42pm May 31, 2011)

I really believe you might have been possessed by a dragon, I feel possessed by things or people, whenever I try to write a story. Mine never come out like your's. Can't wait to read your book.
(Frances Namuth 11:16pm May 31, 2011)

So many things are possible, why NOT? I think Dyfyr could very well have crossed the boundries of normal and touched you. sounds like great stories.
(Lisa Kendall 11:36pm May 31, 2011)

i have always believed in witches and every thing else!!sounds like a great story to read!!
(Jennifer Beck 11:45pm May 31, 2011)

Um, unlikely but I do know the feeling.
(Jessica Sutton 1:11am June 1, 2011)

I believe in dragons (married a welsh man so I can't not
believe ;))and I think he really did tell you his story so you
could write it down :D
(Ilona Fenton 1:14pm June 1, 2011)

Why the heck not? I wrote about dragons in a parallel universe, and it began to feel very real to me, to I know what you mean!
(Kara Lennox 5:59pm June 1, 2011)

Really see why you could not be channelling a dragon. Do have to ask this by were you by chance born in the year of the dragon (I am, why I like to say I channeled my inner dragon)?
(Rachel Flesher 7:45pm June 1, 2011)

I feel anytime I read a story it is like watching a movie. I totally invision my characters and the scene! I would say it could be very easy to get wrapped up in the moment, but I think possessed is a strong word. In love with the story....YES, that`s very possible, especially after the reviews I`ve seen and heard. I would love to read this story, I have only read one other dragon story and I loved it!
(Rhonda Helton 7:43am June 2, 2011)

I think you were in the sense that you were a dragon in a past life! That is why you have the deja-vu feelings. Have you considered hypnosis? That would be awesome!
(Stephanie Bondlow 11:44am June 2, 2011)
