Get Cozy with the Falling Temps

The cooler temperatures are here to stay for the next several months, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. In fact, it's the perfect time to bring out those favorite winter recipes, indoor hobbies, and alter a few fairy tales of your own. Or you could pick up the three cozy mysteries I have lined up for this week at the Cozy Corner by Julia Buckley, Molly MacRae and Maia Chance.

THE BIG CHILI by Julia Buckley

THE BIG CHILI
THE BIG CHILI

About THE BIG CHILI: First in a delicious new mystery series filled with casseroles, confidences, and killers...

Lilah Drake’s Covered Dish business discreetly provides the residents of Pine Haven, Illinois, with delicious, fresh-cooked meals they can claim they cooked themselves. But when one of her clandestine concoctions is used to poison a local woman, Lilah finds herself in a pot-load of trouble…

After dreaming for years of owning her own catering company, Lilah has made a start into the food world through her Covered Dish business, covertly cooking for her neighbors who don’t have the time or skill to do so themselves, and allowing them to claim her culinary creations as their own. While her clientele is strong, their continued happiness depends on no one finding out who’s really behind the apron.

So when someone drops dead at a church Bingo night moments after eating chili that Lilah made for a client, the anonymous chef finds herself getting stirred into a cauldron of secrets, lies, and murder—and going toe to toe with a very determined and very attractive detective. To keep her clients coming back and her business under wraps, Lilah will have to chop down the list of suspects fast, because this spicy killer has acquired a taste for homicide…

KNOT THE USUAL SUSPECTS by Molly MacRae

KNOT THE USUAL SUSPECTS
KNOT THE USUAL SUSPECTS

About KNOT THE USUAL SUSPECTS: In the latest from the bestselling author of Plagued by Quilt, Kath Rutledge yarn bombs Blue Plum, Tennessee—and gets tangled up in the mystery of a bumped-off bagpiper.

It’s time for Handmade Blue Plum, an annual arts and crafts fair, and Kath and her knitting group TGIF (Thank Goodness It’s Fiber) plan to kick off the festivities with a yarn bombing. But they’re not the only ones needling Blue Plum. Bagpiper and former resident Hugh McPhee had just returned after a long absence, yet his reception is anything but cozy. The morning after his arrival, he’s found dead in full piper’s regalia.

Although shaken, Kath and her knitting group go forward with their yarn installation—only to hit a deadly snag. Now, with the help of Geneva, the ghost who haunts her shop, Kath and TGIF need to unravel the mystery before someone else gets kilt!

CINDERELLA SIX FEET UNDER by Maia Chance

CINDERELLA SIX FEET UNDER
CINDERELLA SIX FEET UNDER

About CINDERELLA SIX FEET UNDER: This Cinderella goes from ashes to ashes in the new Victorian-era Fairy Tale Fatal Mystery by the author of Snow White Red-Handed . . .

Variety hall actress Ophelia Flax’s plan to reunite her friend Prue with her estranged—and allegedly wealthy—mother, Henrietta, is met with a grim surprise. Not only is the marquise’s Paris mansion a mouse-infested ruin, but Henrietta has inexplicably vanished, leaving behind an evasive husband, two sinister stepsisters, and a bullet-riddled corpse in the pumpkin patch decked out in a ball gown and one glass slipper—a corpse that also happens to be a dead ringer for Prue.

Strangely, no one at 15 rue Garenne seems concerned about who plugged this luckless Cinderella or why, so the investigation is left to Ophelia and Prue. It takes them through the labyrinthine maze of the Paris Opera, down the trail of a legendary fairy tale relic, into the confidence of a wily prince charmless, and makes them vulnerable to the secrets of a mysterious couturière with designs of her own on Prue’s ever-twisting family history.

(Mj Chesick 11:41pm October 19, 2015)

I think the best thing about fall is the summer activity is
over and nights are getting chilly, which means sitting down
with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book. That is my
little bit of heaven.
(Gloria Burke 11:59pm October 19, 2015)

Since I live out in the country, there are so many
roads that my Husband and I haven't explored yet, and
the colors are starting to pop!! We have orchards in
our backyard that we can drive to, and once I get the
rest of my yarn organized, it's time for me to get
into some heavy-duty projects that will keep me warm
at the same time. It's also a great time to hunker
down and do some reading that I wasn't able to get to,
due to my Father's passing. I also love to make
Christmas ornaments this time of year, since I find
new ornaments this time of year. The books you chose
sound
(Peggy Roberson 10:19am October 20, 2015)

The books you chose sound like they'll make great reads
for the Fall!! You find the best books, and these story
lines sound really good. I have no idea which one I would
read first, but I'll have to put these on my TBR list.
(Peggy Roberson 10:21am October 20, 2015)

I love decorating for fall and greeting the trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Thanks for the great giveaway!
(Bonnie H 11:00am October 21, 2015)

Sleeping and football on Sunday afternoons.
(Edward Washington 11:00am October 21, 2015)

All three mysteries you mentioned sound enticing. I can't wait to read Cinderelle six feet under. As far as Fall. I love to open all the windows on a breezy day. Love decorating for Halloween and cooking a roast or a pot dish which makes the house smell terrific.
(Sandra Stipins 2:16pm October 21, 2015)

Excellent choice of mysteries! Here in the desert I love the cooler weather the most - enjoying hot chocolate or tea in the evenings as I read, being able to sit outside with the stray cats we feed, even just having the front door open and letting our indoor cats look outside and just sniff the air...
(Jeanie Dannheim 4:19pm October 21, 2015)

Cooking some good fall comfort foods especially on Sundays and watching the football games!
(Suzie Quebedeaux 4:31pm October 21, 2015)

We always drive to another county for the foliage tour. We get to see the mountains covered in oranges, reds and yellow. It's a wonderful day trip.
(Carole Abel 7:17pm October 21, 2015)

My family's favorite things to do are building leaf piles
to jump in, picking pumpkins to carve for Halloween, baking
pies all night (only on the day before Thanksgiving), and
hiking in the Rockies to see the Aspens. The Aspens are so
beautiful during the fall.
(Jeri Daniel 8:21am October 22, 2015)

Autumn is my favorite season of all - so just ONE activity would be hard. Hiking in cooler temperatures, enjoying the changing colors of the leaves, and just smelling the cooler air. There's definitely a different "scent" to the air. All three books sound wonderful. thanks for the chance to win!!!
(Nancy Reynolds 10:11am October 22, 2015)

I like the cooler temps in autumn. I like seeing the
changing leaves and walking in the park, enjoying the air.
Thank you for having this contest- all the cozyies sound
wonderful!
(Kelly Pfister 1:24pm October 22, 2015)

Halloween all the way is my favorite. the cooler temps and the changing of the colors
(Jennifer Beck 1:31pm October 22, 2015)

My favorite things about fall are early nights, cooler weather, warm
sweaters, a cup of hot tea, and catching up on all the reading I thought I
would do over the summer. :)
(Alison Ellis 1:43pm October 22, 2015)

I love sitting in the front yard under the changing leaves of Maple trees and painting
(Amanda Ray 2:00pm October 22, 2015)

Favorite fall activity - Halloween and celebrating my birthday - OK, I guess that counts as two activities - but it's one...sort of - my birthday is a few days before Halloween so I always had a Halloween themed birthday party, with all the orange and black - and I do enjoy the season in general!
(Felicia Ciaudelli 2:18pm October 22, 2015)

Getting the family together for Thanksgiving.
(Richard Brandt 2:42pm October 22, 2015)

Falls best things

We have a lot of trees in our area, and I like the changing
colors of the leaves.
(Jolynn Rood 5:02pm October 22, 2015)

The wonderful vibrant colours of nature.
(Lesley Walsh 5:35pm October 22, 2015)

Photographing all the beauty that is fall is probably my
favorite thing... though that doesn't usually warm me up!
;) For that, I head to Starbucks to get myself a Caramel
Apple Spice! Yum Yum. All three authors are new to me, so
I'm excited to find some new cozy series to look for! =)
(Marsha Bachmeier 5:51pm October 22, 2015)

Fall is my favorite season & Cozies are a favorite read,
along with historical mysteries. I love the crisp air, the
colors, the smells. The only drawback is Fall doesn't last
near long enough!
(Ivy Truitt 5:58pm October 22, 2015)

I love fall and all the colors of the changing leaves. I also enjoy the cooler
weather, sitting and reading.
(Sema Firestone 6:01pm October 22, 2015)

reading a good book and ice cream
(Jeri Dickinson 6:47pm October 22, 2015)

Our fall here in the Rockies is super short. We have snow in the forecast for this weekend already! My favorite fall activity is to prepare for winter by stocking up on teas, books, fuzzy blankets and all the ingredients for soup making. When the snow falls, I'm ready! I also enjoy stopping my shopping for a pumpkin spice latte! ;)
(Susan Terendy 6:53pm October 22, 2015)

Those books look like just the thing for a cold fall/winter day. I have some
physical challenges so don't get out much when it's cold so I love to sit by a
cozy fire and read with a cup of hazelnut coffee and a jam slathered scone
on the reading table beside me!
(Peg Barker 7:03pm October 22, 2015)

The fall colors are my favorite! Now living in Southern
Louisiana, I no longer get to see the colors of fall like I
did while living in North Carolina. But, the cooler weather
is a godsend! I enjoy getting comfortable and reading great
books as well!
(Terry Trahan 7:52pm October 22, 2015)

My favorite thing to do in the Fall is clean (yes, I do Fall cleaning instead of Spring). I go through all my paperwork & get everything sorted & filed. My shredder also
does overtime.
(Lourie Staib 8:25pm October 22, 2015)

My fall enjoyment mostly is I like the changing colors of the leaves. Its a time when I like to bake more - apple dumplings and pumpkin pies and cookies. Fall is better for me for sleeping and its better walking - no sweating.
(Ann Hengst 8:29pm October 22, 2015)

I WOULD LOVE THIS,THEY SOUND GREAT!
(Marsha Baurns 8:40pm October 22, 2015)

We enjoy bonfires, hot apple cider and visiting pumpkin patches so we can add to our collection of wide variety of pumpkins. My kiddos find really cool looking ones and all different colors.

After Halloween ,I take the scary items off and leave the fall leaves, pumpkins and lights . Then here's Christmas , I've already got my tree up inside the house , so I take down the Fall decors and get the Christmas up outside . It's a lot of work , but fun too , and it's worth all my time when someone tells me how much that they and their children love to go by my house . I try to keep it organized with a theme to it . Wow! Such an awesome response! The month got away from
me, so I apologize for not commenting sooner. I was
amazed at how many of the activities are my favorites
too! For instance I only use my kitchen September through
December. The rest of the year, it's the grill or the
microwave. I love fall colors! I don't see them any more,
but still love the crisp crunch under my feet and the
beautiful views, I'm a tree hugger at heart.:) Reading by
the fire, crafts, Halloween, getting together with
family, photography, soccer, football, and might I add
the world series by my Royals;) Flea markets, fall
festivals, and yes I'll even add the fall cleaning in
there too. Thank you for all your comments, they were
awesome!
I wish I could give everyone a cozy mystery to cuddle up
with! But unfortunately, that might break the bank;) So
without further ado, Terry T was the winner of The Big
Chili, Knot Your Usual Suspects, and Cinderella Six Feet
Under. I hope you'll watch for our November giveaway the
week of Thanksgiving. Until then, get cozy and read on!
