Lucy Monroe | Managing Multiple Releases without Going Insane

pinterestbookbubpinterestInstagramYouTubegoodreadsfacebooktwitter

You know, this could just be titled: Summer Reads from Lucy Monroe.  But seriously?  How boring would that be?

Wouldn't you rather know just how close to that specialty designed white jacket having so many releases out at once is driving me?  I'm not complaining, just saying...

With six (yes, you read that right SIX) releases coming out within 8 weeks of each other, I'm tearing my hair out and I think my Promotions Coordinator is on the verge of asking for a prolonged vacation...or finding another job.  Just kidding!  I hope!

crazy

It's one of the few pitfalls of writing for multiple publishers.   They look at their calendars, not yours, when determining release dates.  It's just the way of things and no, this is not my first multi-release rodeo, but it is the first time I've had so many books coming out so close together.

Between writing guest blog posts, magazine articles and answering interview questions, I'm finding it near impossible to make time to actually work on my current manuscript.  Which would be fine...if it wasn't due on July 15th.

The joys of being an author are many and varied, but crazy long hours and lack of sleep aren't on that list.  And honestly,  my university days are long behind me - I thought my all nighters were too. :-)

Once the reader comments start showing up on my FB page and Twitter, and the emails start coming in, I'll tell you it's all worth it though.  Every last day spent working until 4 am.  Connecting to my readers is at the top of the list of those joys I just mentioned.

Every reader comment and letter holds a special place in my heart and reminds me why I write.  It's so NOT for the promotion, but for the connection. :-)  Kind of like why I read.

It's your turn:  what do you do that maybe drives you crazy, but is still very much worth it? One commenter will win a signed copy of PRINCE OF SECRETS.

Happy reading...lots and lots I hope!

Hugs, Lucy

My six summer reads...enjoy!

Scorsolini Baby Scandal (Jun 2nd eBook release): Prinicipe Vittoro Micheli Scorsolini is shaking off the pressures of ruling a country and going on holiday... undercover. But that's okay - so is Constanza Mendez. She's tired of men after only one thing: her father's money.

One Night Heir (July 1st print/eBook release): Bitter life lessons have taught Crown Prince Maksim Yurkovich that duty must come before desire. His country needs an heir, so when he discovers his lover can't have children, he must sever their ties.

Warrior's Moon (July 1st print/eBook release): Chrechte wolf shifter Caelis turned his back on his human lover Shona so that he could remain loyal to his pack. Six years later, he thinks she's dead. He's wrong...

Enthralled (July 1st print/eBook release): anthology by Lora Leigh, et. Al. with my Children of the Moon story - Ecstasy Under the Moon.  Once mortal enemies, wolf and bird shifters are mending the rift between their people.  Can Una and Bryant do the same?

He's the One (July 1st print re-release): anthology by Linda Lael Miller, et. Al. with the reprint of Seducing Tabby.  Everybody always wants Tabby Payton's beautiful sister. But not sexy English spy Calder Maxwell. He wants Tabby, body and soul, and he's willing to take the seduction to new levels to prove it...

Prince of Secrets (Aug 1st print/eBook release): Prince Demyan Zaretsky does whatever it takes to protect his country. So seducing Chanel Tanner will be easy. And marriage? An unfortunate side effect of duty. She unwittingly holds the economic stability of Volyarus in her hands...and he must secure it.

Re: Lucy Monroe | Managing Multiple Releases without Going Insane

So looking forward to this book! Already read One Night Heir
and loved it.
(Cindy Marciel 5:23pm July 2, 2013)

One thing that drives me crazy is a long drawn out book series with lots of characters that really makes me work to get through it. The prime example is Game of Thrones. Thank goodness I finally finished the last book out. It was definitely worth it but it seemed to take forever and I had to keep flipping to the back to remember who the characters were and who they were loyal to.
(Pam Howell 5:29pm July 2, 2013)

Buying Warrior's Moon tonight! Regarding your question, I do as little as possible, so it's hard to say. Maybe recording shows when I know I already have a ton to watch!
(Lisa Elwood 6:04pm July 2, 2013)

Congrats on all your releases this summer! I always enjoy your books.
(Cheryl McEwen 7:13pm July 2, 2013)

My reading! I can't even leave the house without taking a book with me. AND... I krp right on buying more!
(Betty Hamilton 7:29pm July 2, 2013)

One thing that drives me crazy is my stamped cross stitch projects i have
gptten started. I have like 3 i started but they'll get done. I hope i get to
read your book. It sounds great. Good luck with all your releases.
(Sarah Bauman 7:56pm July 2, 2013)

Work drives me crazy---but it sure is worth it come payday!!
(Sue Farrell 8:02pm July 2, 2013)

I have about a half dozen craft projects half way done at any given time. I always start gifts for others way ahead of time (Christmas starts in July for me)but I get them done in time. With those, work and reading ... how I have time for family is beyond me. (But I've had no complaints because the work would just have to go if they did. LOL.)
(Annetta Sweetko 8:26pm July 2, 2013)

Congrats on all of your books! Teaching my little nephew things drives me crazy sometimes, but I love seeing him grow and learn!
(Colleen Conklin 8:56pm July 2, 2013)

I don't really have anything that drives me crazy.
(Wilma Frana 9:05pm July 2, 2013)

Wow, Lucy, Congrats on 6 releases coming out within 8 weeks
of each other because that means You are truly a Success in
Life and remember God will not put more on us then we can
handle. When, I first moved to TX I was working 3 jobs at
one time because my Ford; Fix or repair daily was giving me
weekly fits; hee hee!! Now, I am Retired and driving a brand
new Dodge Grand Caravan 2013 and Life is good and married 25
years and God is Great!!! Remember to always put God First
and You will truly be blessed and successful for sure. You
can do it. I have faith in You and that you will succeed. I
would love to win and read all of your books. Thanks and God
Bless You. Cecilia CECE
(Cecilia Dunbar Hernandez 9:47pm July 2, 2013)

I've got to many projects that I want to do - things around
the house, crafts, trying new recipes, organizing - I don't
think I'll ever be done!
(Diane Sallans 10:19pm July 2, 2013)

Wow! SIX! That's great. The release dates are close --
does that mean you were writing all 6 at the same time? I
really can't imagine how an author can do all that writing
and be so creative about it. And that's not just the novels
themselves, but all the blogs, promos, and other things that
have to be written and done.
I'm reading ONE NIGHT HEIR now, and enjoying it immensely.

Projects I need to do: write Thank You notes, many! And I
have some cross stich projects I began years ago, and still
haven't finished. And my TBR list is just getting longer
and taller!!!!
(Donna Durnell 10:47pm July 2, 2013)

I always drive myself crazy when I second guess myself or over think things.
(Kai Wong 10:59pm July 2, 2013)

Congratulations on all your new releases! I love your books! Getting ready
for a holiday or a party drives me crazy. A big part of the problem is all the
pressure I put on myself to have everything just right.
(Linda Brennan 11:30pm July 2, 2013)

My grand kids drive me crazy when everything they do just wont go right
and they end up fighting over everything including me for their full attention
(Ava Curtis 11:46pm July 2, 2013)

I am so excited about this book im already to get the chance
to read this thanks so much for the chance
(Denise Smith 12:21pm July 3, 2013)

I'm a procrastinator. And a second guesser. Just your books coming out
would make quite a TBR like. :)
(Penny Mettert 3:12am July 3, 2013)

I'm glad you included a list of your new releases. One thing I do that is
worth it even though I am crazy to attempt it is my vegetable garden. I
never seem to have enough time to get all the weeds. Either I have to work,
it rains all week, or the Mosquitos swarm but that corn on the cob, squash,
and pumpkin pie are so worth it.
(Laura Gullickson 3:41am July 3, 2013)

Currently, I'm in the middle of a knitting and crocheting present blitz for a few people. The majority have been baby gifts, and those take time. Because I'm on dial-up, I work on my projects while the pages load, which means that I'm able to get some work done while I'm on the computer. The baby afghans take time, and I'm glad that the pattern is an easy one. The sweaters are a little more complicated, but sometimes it's aggravating trying to do both things at once. When those items are done, I have shawls to make, then other items after that. It doesn't leave me much time to read at the moment, but I plan on fitting that in, since I need a break. I love my needlework, but I love to read, too!! I want to get your books on my TBR list for the Summer!!
(Peggy Roberson 8:36am July 3, 2013)

Excited to read this. I have many of your books. Love a goodHEA.
(Jess Nekoranec 9:29am July 3, 2013)

WOW - I don't know how you do it!!! 6 books in 8 weeks. CRAZY!!!! And everything else that goes along with the writing - the promoting, the socializing, the connecting. You are amazing. And I love everything that you write - so I hope you keep strong and continue on and on and on. As for what drives me crazy: my book/reading obsession. Yes, obsession. I collect books faster than I can read them. My TBR, like someone else said, gets taller and longer all the time. I'm always w-a-y behind in my reading - but wouldn't change it for anything.
(Nancy Reynolds 9:33am July 3, 2013)

makes me want to read this again
(Debbi Shaw 9:44am July 3, 2013)

I am a bit OCD - so cleaning and making things just so tend to drive me crazy. I have been known to clean late at night just to get a head start in the morning. UUUgggh! I can't imagine what you have had to go through to complete so many.
(Carla Carlson 10:41am July 3, 2013)

Congrats on ALL the releases, WTG!
I am infamous for starting something, say laundry and while getting the laundry together I notice that the bathroom needs to be cleaned so while going into the kitchen to get the cleaning supplies, I see the dishes need to be done so I start washing the dishes then needs a drink so when I open the fridge I decide the fridge needs to be cleaned and look at the time, I should make something to eat. Oh the dog needs to go out and the porch needs to be swept and...where are my clean clothes?!

Continued good luck and happy writing!
(Tracie Travis 11:27am July 3, 2013)

I drive my self crazy not saying no when I should and then second guessing! lol The books look great! Thanks.
(Dianne McVetty 12:03pm July 3, 2013)

Things don't generally "drive me crazy" - but I'm sure friends/family think I'm crazy for recording my television shows when I'm 3 months behind already. My reasoning is that I get caught up by September most years (because of reruns) ... the shows are available whenever I'm finally able to sit down for the day ... and a one-hour show usually takes 10 minutes to watch because I only watch certain sections (like one guest on Letterman or Ellen).
(Elaine Seymour 1:54pm July 3, 2013)

One thing that drives me crazy is starting to read more books when I haven't
finished the first one I started...not having enough time to finish one book
before another sounds so good I have to try it. But eventually I do get them all
read and it's worth it.
(Jackie Wisherd 2:28pm July 3, 2013)

I tend to be a procrastinator and it drives my hubby nuts. I always finish things when they need to be done but not until just before. :)
(Sue Galuska 4:21pm July 3, 2013)

I am a compulsive book buyer. I know I should hold off till
my TBR shelf is whittled down some but if a book comes out by
one of my favorite authors I just have to get it.
(Donna Antonio 5:59pm July 3, 2013)

I love to read, but finding time to do it is my big problem. It's always worth it when I find the time, but............
(Carol Woodruff 6:46pm July 3, 2013)

Getting in 10 000 steps a day now that I have a fitbit...it drives me nuts but I have to do it :) and in the end it is worth it
(Darci Paice 8:07pm July 3, 2013)

I stage manage. It is a HUGE responsibility and if anything
goes wrong, it is my fault. However, it is a lot of fun to be
behind the scenes. :-D
(Karin Anderson 8:32pm July 3, 2013)

I think just trying to be organised. It takes a lot of
organising to be organised, but it does pay off.
(Mary Preston 10:46pm July 3, 2013)

Writing drives me crazy, especially entering contests for short stories or articles and waiting ages to know if I'm even longlisted. But it's worth it to put together and police a piece, it's worth it even more if I do get a placing.
Well done on the releases, don't blow a fuse!
(Clare O'Beara 9:45am July 5, 2013)

Girl, you sure are prolific. I guess, you'll have a good two
months to try to keep up with appearances and stay organized.
Something has to give when you're so busy, so I'm wondering if
it's housework or fun in general?
