B.J. Daniels | Melting Moments and LONE RIDER
July 27, 2015
Have you ever taken a bite of something that transports you back to your
childhood? That
happened to me in a small bakery in Missoula, Montana a few years ago.
I bought a cookie, took a bite and…WOW. I was a kid again. I thought what
are these? MELTING
MOMENTS.
Great name for a cookie that took me back to my childhood, don’t you think?
I couldn’t believe
it because I’m sure I haven’t had one of those cookies in YEARS. But one
bite and I was back in
pigtails, with a skinned knee and a sunburned nose.
If you haven’t met me or read one of my books, then you probably don’t know.
I love cookies.
(And food in general, but always cookies)
My characters in my books eat and my heroes always love that my
heroines have a good
appetite.
One of my favorite things to do is bake. Seriously, I hate to go a whole
week without baking.
So of course I had to track down this recipe. When I did I was surprised at
the ingredients –
and you will probably be also.
These cookies literally melt in your mouth. They are so light that they
shouldn’t have any
calories at all. Also they are really simple to make.
So a blast from the past… Here is the recipe.
MELTING MOMENTS
1 cup flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup (1 and a half sticks) butter
Combine flour and cornstarch and sugar, and set aside. Beat butter in a
large bowl on medium
speed until fluffy. Add flour mixture. Mix. Refrigerator for 1 hour. Shape
into 1-inch balls.
Place about 1 ½ inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with lightly
floured fork.
Bake in slow oven (300 degrees) for 20 minutes or until lightly browned.

When danger claims her, rescue comes from the one man she least expects.
A cowgirl at heart,
Bo Hamilton does her best thinking in wide-open spaces. So when money goes
missing from the
family foundation she runs-meaning one of her trusted ragtag employees is a
thief-Bo rides into
the Crazy Mountains to figure things out. But a killer hiding among the
sawtooth ridges takes
her captive…and isn't planning on ever letting her go.
Bo's disappearance gets folks thinking she's the guilty one who's run off
with the money, but
Jace Calder would bet his ranch that she's innocent. Not that he has any
reason to trust the
beautiful, spoiled senator's daughter. But she also gave his troubled sister
a job when no one
else would. For his sibling's sake, Jace is going after Bo and bringing her
home to face the
truth. But up in the mountains, he finds Bo at the mercy of a suspected
murderer. As her only
hope, Jace is about to find out what they're both made of.

These will probably sound gross to you, but my Mom made these cookies only for the Holidays. They were a special prune-filled cookie, that looked like a small crescent roll. There's a lot of work involved to making them, since they take 2 days to make. To this day, I make them every Christmas, since everyone who's had them, can't wait for me to make them!! I usually make a big batch, then pass them out to friends and family, since my Sisters haven't followed any of my Mom's traditions. I'll have to try your recipe now, since cornstarch is an interesting ingredient that I don't recall putting in a cookie recipe before. They sound quick, and I'm sure they're good!! the cookie my Mom made me was a Sweetheart (aka Thumbprint) cookie - it kinda tastes like shortbread & the recipe calls for a dollop of current jelly in the thumbprint, but Mom use raspberry preserves cause that was my favorite. (Diane Sallans 8:44pm July 27, 2015)
