Olivia Cunning | Ten Things I Can’t Believe Came Out of Eric Sticks’ Mouth
August 22, 2013
The hero in my latest release, Wicked Beat, was originally
intended to provide some comic relief for the first book in the Sinners on Tour
series, entitled
Backstage Pass. So when I decided that first book—which I had originally
intended as a standalone novel—would be part of a series including a story about
each member of the band, I had to figure out a way to show their drummer—this
goofball of a side character with absolutely no filter on his mouth—was actually
a compelling, lovable hero. I believe I pulled it off. It's hard not to love
Eric Sticks because he’s the type of guy that throws his heart into everything
he does. Yes, everything. He doesn’t have a filter on his mouth or one on his
heart. But there are times even I can’t believe some of the things that come out of
Eric’s mouth. I thought I’d share ten of his unfiltered gems. Trust me, there
are many more in the series. He’s always wise-cracking, though I’m not sure how
wise it is. I can’t believe Eric said that #1:
Eric licked the side of Jace’s forehead. “He does sorta taste like p***y.” Eric
smacked his lips as he contemplated his palate. “A touch saltier than lady
sauce, but not bad.” –from Hot Ticket (Sinners on Tour
#3) I can’t believe Eric said that #2:
Eric marched up and down the bus aisle like a British soldier, using a drumstick
as a baton as he sang at the top of his lungs. “O Canada! O Canada! How friggin’
cold are thee!”
“Sit down, Eric,” Sed demanded.
“O Canada! O Canada! A population of twenty-three!”
“Eric! I said sit.”
Aggie clutched her abdomen to keep her spleen from rupturing in her hysterics.
“O Canada! O Canada! At least you have some trees!”
“Eric!” Sed tackled him into a captain chair. “Wait until we’re across the
border. Do you want us to get searched again?”
“Trey always enjoys the body cavity search,” Eric said. –from Hot Ticket (Sinners on
Tour #3) I can’t believe Eric said that #3:
“What’s a little sac connection between friends?” –from Hot Ticket (Sinners on Tour #3) I can’t believe Eric said that #4:
“Have you ever had blue balls?” Eric asked.
She grinned and flipped her gaze to the ceiling. “Well…”
“They’re not just for Smurfs.” –from Hot Ticket (Sinners on Tour
#3) I can’t believe Eric said that #5:
“I’ll decide on dessert later,” Eric said. “But you might want to grab the
chocolate syrup and whipped cream from the fridge. I’m feeling artistic.” –from
Double Time (Sinners on
Tour #5) I can’t believe Eric said that #6:
“If you’re trying to make my fly too tight, little Reb,” Eric said, “you are
succeeding.” –from Wicked
Beat (Sinners on Tour #4) I can’t believe Eric said that #7:
“How is she supposed to get pregnant if she’s in Kansas City and Brian is
touring all over the country?” Sed asked.
“He could always jack off into an empty beer bottle and FedEx it to her,” Eric
said.
While everyone else rolled their eyes at him, Rebekah burst out laughing.
“He can put it on dry ice, and then she can warm it up in the microwave when it
arrives.” –from Wicked
Beat (Sinners on Tour #4) I can’t believe Eric said that #8:
He chuckled. “So I’m assuming it wouldn’t turn you on if I dressed up like
Spider-Man and spurted my magic web all over you.” –from Wicked Beat (Sinners on Tour
#4) I can’t believe Eric said that #9:
“Wait,” Eric said. “Do you have any camouflaged condoms?”
“Camouflaged?” The cashier’s forehead crinkled in concentration. “I don’t think
so. We have every flavor and color imaginable, but I don’t think we have any
camouflaged.”
“Why would you need a camouflaged condom?” Rebekah asked.
“So you won’t see me coming.” –from Wicked Beat (Sinners on Tour
#4) I can’t believe Eric said that #10:
“I am so going to get you back for this,” Eric said breathlessly.
“Are you going to make me get a hideous tattoo on my ass?”
“Yeah,” he said. “A tattoo of my face.”
She laughed. “Your face isn’t hideous, but why would you want it on my ass?”
“So even when I’m not around, you’ll still be sitting on my face.” –from Wicked Beat (Sinners on Tour
#4) Well, there you have it. My rock god without a filter. What could possibly be
more fun? I hope you enjoy reading his antics as much as I enjoyed writing about
them. Do you like a man with a “good” sense of humor? One commenter will win a copy of WICKED BEAT

Life would be very boring without humor, no relationship would last without it. (Lynne Pearson 8:54am August 22, 2013)
I believe that humor is one of the traits that a "good" man should have, among other things. Your book sounds like it will be quite an interesting read, and one that will be different from the normal genre that I tend to read. I'm looking forward to something that will make me laugh, since I'm in a bit of a funk these days. Thank you for the excerpt and insight about your book today!!! This book sounds different. I've never read one about a rock band. The Spider-Man comment reminds me that I saw someone dressed up like Spider-Man on Sunday at the festival in my neighborhood. (Michelle Fidler 4:44pm August 22, 2013)
