Ever wonder what music inspires an author when writing a book? Well, Jill Shalvis put together a playlist just for IT HAD TO BE YOU. I invite you to check it out!

IT HAD TO BE YOU

Ali Winters is not having a good day. Her boyfriend left her, everyone in town thinks she's a thief, and now she's about to be kicked out of her home. Her only shot at keeping a roof over her head and clearing her name is to beg for help from a police detective who's as sexy as he is stern....

After a high-profile case goes wrong, Luke Hanover returns to his hometown for some peace and quiet. Instead he finds a bombshell brunette in a heap of trouble. As he helps Ali put her world back together, the pieces of Luke's own life finally seem to fall into place. Is this the start of a sizzling fling? Or are Luke and Ali on the brink of something big in a little town called Lucky Harbor?

Re: Jill Shalvis | Play list for IT HAD TO BE YOU

I like quiet when I'm reading. But if music helps you write all those wonderful books, keep listening, Jill! I'm looking forward to reading It Had to be You.
(G S Moch 12:05pm June 4, 2013)

I prefer quiet when reading and studying.... But different ppl prefer different environment!
(May Pau 12:27pm June 4, 2013)

I really like the Kelly Clarkson and Pink songs, but not necessarily when I'm reading.
(Kim C 12:41pm June 4, 2013)

Believe it or not...I like noise when I read. I think it comes from being raised with 8 siblings! The house was almost always noisy!!
(Betty Hamilton 1:41pm June 4, 2013)

I find music or background noise sets my reading pace. I also find it helps me focus exclusively on the material at hand.
(Janis Milford 2:43pm June 4, 2013)

I sometimes have music on in the background when I am reading... but tend not to really hear it because I focus on the book.
(Colleen Conklin 2:56pm June 4, 2013)

I do like peace and quiet when reading and my daughter said recently she remembered I had a bookmark that said, "SHHHHHH! I'm reading" when she was younger. But, a good book will grab my attention and I could read anywhere anytime if enthralled. If I do listen to music, it will be instrumental... no words... and usually jazz.
(Sandy Fielder 3:27pm June 4, 2013)

I love listening to music-anytime, anywhere! Different songs create different moods, so I can easily see how listening while you write would be inspirational.
(Cheryl Castings 3:41pm June 4, 2013)

I rather have peace and quiet when I'm reading, BUT ... if that's not possible, I just zone in on the book and ignore the sounds around me. That can be dangerous but ... reading is soooo much fun. Your book sounds great. Best of luck with it.
(Nancy Reynolds 4:58pm June 4, 2013)

I usually don't listen to music when I'm reading books, but I often have the TV on and there is plenty of background noise including music. It doesn't bother me if it's not too loud, since I get so engrossed in my reading.
(Linda Luinstra 5:48pm June 4, 2013)

hmmm. I usually listen to NPR all day, and when I choose music, it's new grass, blue grass or classical - it was fun listening to your choices! how did you find these artists? Now when I read the book, I'll hear your music in the background - kinda nifty.
(Beth Fuller 7:02pm June 4, 2013)

i like music background i find it helps me get into the book
more.
(Denise Smith 7:12pm June 4, 2013)

Yikes! I don't think I know one song on your play list. I love Kelly Clarkson but am more of a Cyndi Lauper/Cher/Bette Midler type of gal, so that dates me. I don't listen to music while reading. I generally just like listening to music when in the car.
(Susan Coster 7:56pm June 4, 2013)

Yes, I love all kinds of music and books too. Wow, your new
book: IT HAD TO BE YOU sounds like a very interesting book
and I believe that Ali and Luke are going to get Lucky in
Lucky Harbor a bunch. Thank You for the fantastic contest
and I would really love to win and read your book. Thanks,
Cecilia CECE
(Cecilia Dunbar Hernandez 8:55pm June 4, 2013)

Love music but not while I'm reading.
(Mary C 10:03pm June 4, 2013)

I need quiet when I read.
(Pat Lieberman 10:55pm June 4, 2013)

I love music, but don't listen to it while I am reading.
(Aimee Robison 7:33am June 5, 2013)

Love music while I'm working, doing housework, eating breakfast and
working out raising a sweat. But whilst reading --- Nah, I'm too busy getting
lost in the world of the book properly enjoy the music.
(Chris Coulson 7:48am June 5, 2013)

I haven't had a chance to read your book yet, but if that's the playlist that corresponds to your book, it sounds like it will be a good one!!!! I'm looking forward to having a good book to kick off my Summer on the right foot, and this one should be just the ticket!!! I love the cover, too!! Congratulations on your latest book!!!
(Peggy Roberson 8:39am June 5, 2013)

i normally do not listen to music when I am reading, but have it on often. I love music. In fact, I was listening to Lifehouse yesterday while cutting the grass!
(Sue Galuska 9:06am June 5, 2013)

I love listening to music :) love the play list!
(Lisa Medeiros 9:42am June 5, 2013)

Music, the melody, the lyrics all have their own stories and the images they put in my head. I think it can add to a book, enhance the emotional discovery of what lies within the pages. Thank you for the playlist, I love the choice of songs.
(Carla Carlson 11:05am June 5, 2013)

If the book is very interesting, I can block out other sounds, but I prefer to read in a quiet place.
(Anna Speed 11:30am June 5, 2013)

I prefer quiet reading too. So sorry....
(Elaine Seymour 11:51am June 5, 2013)

PREFER QUIET
(Debbi Shaw 5:07pm June 5, 2013)

Ohh what a great choice for playlist! Those are awesome choices. But when I read, I prefer quiet to concentrate on my characters.
(Anita H 5:16pm June 5, 2013)

Love you picks! Boys Like Girls are great. Adore Pink and Kelly. Plain White T's-- *SWOON*
I'm lovin' the Lucky Harbor series!
(Chelsea Brooks 6:55pm June 5, 2013)

Like the playlist. However I enjoy reading outside or curled up in the
recliner.
(Shauna Rivera 7:12pm June 5, 2013)

I also like your playlist, but I prefer quiet while I'm reading.
(Carol Woodruff 7:43pm June 5, 2013)

I like silence when I read, or as much of it as I can get.
Your playlist is awesome! I would definitely listen but not
when reading.
(Cheryl Sanders 7:54pm June 5, 2013)

Love your play list very good songs... I can read any where
except in a car or plane... Makes my stomach hurt. Noise
doesn't bother me but i love been tucked up in covers
reading by myself.
(Jeannie Platt 8:06pm June 5, 2013)

I always wonder what motivates a writer to writer and especially love to know what types of music people like.
Good luck and happy writing!
(Tracie Travis 8:24pm June 5, 2013)

I actually have most of that playlist. :-D I love Lifehouse!
(Karin Anderson 8:42pm June 5, 2013)

Great choices for the playlist, I think it suits it very well.
For me, I could listen to music but I usually turn it way down
low. I like to focus just on my book and if I have music I
like on, I tend to start singing along and then I forget what
I just read :P
(Ada H. 9:02pm June 5, 2013)

I love audio books! Thank you so much for the listening preview!
(MaryAnne Banks 9:10pm June 5, 2013)

I like to read when it's quite, with no distractions at all.
(Sheila True 9:54pm June 5, 2013)

I don't play music when I reading a book. When I play music, it is usually when I'm doing mundane chores around the house like mopping, doing laundry, cooking, and washing dishes. I sing along with the songs are played.

It's kind of hard to read and sing at the same times.
(Kai Wong 10:37pm June 5, 2013)

When I read a good book, I tend to block out any noise around me. I love music, but I usually wait to listen to it when I can focus on the music.
(Ginger Hinson 11:15pm June 5, 2013)

Sometimes I listen to music while reading, it really doesn't bother me. I love Pink, she has some great songs.
(Rita Wray 5:56pm June 6, 2013)

I would be totally distracted. I like the quiet to
concentrate.
