Sandi Shilhanek | Fabulous Fabulous....Boas And Tiaras Tea

The Boas & Tiaras Ladies

Yesterday was the DFW TeaReaders annual Boas and Tiaras tea. It’s the one time of the year that we try to dress a bit for tea, and show our fabulous selves with wonderful tiaras and colorful boas. Last year I had to miss the event because of family obligations, but this year I was lucky enough to attend!

As usual the food and fellowship were divine! If there’s a downside to this event it’s that it’s so big it’s hard to know where to sit, and who to socialize with. I know I missed meeting several newcomers to our events, and I really hope that they return often so I can get to know them.

This year was a bit different I believe in that we had a raffle drawing. We had very generous authors who donated great prizes. Amongst the authors donating were Dakota Cassidy, Michele Bardsley, Rosemary Clement-Moore, Dianna Love, Claire Avery and Jaye Wells. If I missed an author donation I’m terribly sorry and know it was greatly appreciated. Did I mention that I was lucky enough to win one of the baskets donated by Michelle, and got a galley of her new book, Cross Your Heart?

Thanks to Sara for arranging the tea, and hosting the event. She did a great job as always, and I’m looking forward to next year, and hope that you can attend too, and that I get to meet you!

Do you and your friends have a special time of the year when you gather and show how fabulous you are? Tell me all about it! I can’t wait to hear!

Until next week happy page turning!

Re: Sandi Shilhanek | Fabulous Fabulous....Boas And Tiaras Tea

On Boxing day we have the whole family round for a buffet - everyone gets to dress in their Christmas best - its great fun.

It was a real blast Sandy! Glad I could make it this year!

Sorry to say, I don't do anything annually. Wish I was closer to you, as I would love to attend B&TT. Glad you had a great time.

Oh, have you read Michelle B yet? My ex-coworker picked up one of hers and called me to tell me she found this "fabulous" new-to-her author and that she was going to look for all her other books. I'll be getting them at some point:) Can't wait!

No, we don't get together and celebrate at a set time of the year.
(Leni Kaye 12:40pm June 13, 2010)

Sounds like you had a great
event.

Sorry to say we don't do anything like this. We do get together a couple of times a year but we don't dress up for the event.
(Gail Hurt 1:42pm June 13, 2010)

I am so glad I was able to attend Boas and Tiaras this year. My sister came with me and she really enjoyed the tea as well as meeting some of my book reading friends. It was a lot of fun.

No don't have a special time with anyone but love hearing of others.

I've been to a few gettogethers of the local RWA chapter and love them! Wish there were more.
(Barbs Ferris 3:16pm June 13, 2010)

We used to get together at the inlaws on Christmas Eve. It was a "you do not miss it" event. But now the family is so huge that several of us have our own "you do not miss it" events.

For summer fun we get together in July at our place for BBQ and wiener roast.

We don't have RWA stuff where I live. I'm so involved in other stuff I probably wouldn't have time, anyhow.

Oops, I forgot -- so where are you in that picture? {:-)
(Donna Breitkreuz 4:10pm June 13, 2010)

You guys look so adorable, but please can you all move to the UK so I can come to the next one? Us Brits are know for drinking tea and it's just so unfair! :D
(Jeni Matthews 4:41pm June 13, 2010)

No, I don't have any special events. I'm just fortunate to be able to connect with my friends as my closest friends don't live nearby. I'm glad you had a great time!
(Trudy Miner 5:11pm June 13, 2010)

don't forget flag day monday
(Catherine Myers 5:41pm June 13, 2010)

Unfortunately, I was forced to move quite a distance from my friends about 3 years ago. I'm hoping to go back there before the summer is out to visit with them, and catch up with their lives. I miss them terribly!! I've made some new friends where I live now, and once a week, I get together with them, and we have a great time!!
(Peggy Roberson 5:55pm June 13, 2010)

The round of Christmas parties is a time for glamming up and meeting & greeting. Good fun!!!
(Mary Preston 6:39pm June 13, 2010)

Sounds like you had a fantastic time.
(Joyce Mandle 7:32pm June 13, 2010)

I don't get together with a group of readers, but I meet the third Saturday of each month with a group of Exes from our high school. We're called the Tiger Lunch Bunch and surprisingly enough there are more men who attend than women. We meet at a hotel that is a far piece from our home, but it is worth the monthly trip, for it is a very congenial and fun group.
(Gladys Paradowski 7:34pm June 13, 2010)

I don't have huge get togethers with friends like you do. I do though on occasion attend dances where a lot of friends congregate and see them there. There is an outside party given by one of the dancers every summer and everybody I've looked forward to seeing again since the year before usually shows up there. I'm looking forward to this July 31!
(Brenda Rupp 7:51pm June 13, 2010)

What a fun event. Will have to think of some friends who might want to do something similar. Right now, some friends get together for a salad luncheon once or twice a year.
(Patricia Barraclough 8:07pm June 13, 2010)

no we don't have an annual party but three of us do try to get out for a meal a few times a year.
(Diane Sadler 9:43pm June 13, 2010)

I am sorry to say that we do not have anything like that nearby. I try to make the Romantic Times convention when I can but...I live in a small town with family obligations. I am glad that you had such a wonderful time.
(Cindy Olp 11:50pm June 13, 2010)

Sounds like a blast! As my
college friends live all over, a
couple of years ago we decided
to meet in the middle - in AZ.
It was a lot of fun.
(S Tieh 11:55pm June 13, 2010)

Can someone hold one of these in Delaware sometime... I'd dearly love to attend an event like this, but in my 20 years here, they've never held one in Delaware.... we're little, but we do exist.
(Donna Holmberg 1:15am June 14, 2010)

It was great fun.
(Maria Munoz 10:00am June 14, 2010)

My friends and I have wine a cheese Knitting parties. It is a lot of fun.
(Lisa Garrett 2:18pm June 19, 2010)
