Cinsearae S. | Creepy Guys And Creepy Good Times Make For Creepy Writing!

A creepy girl has to have creepy tastes in men, right? *grin* For me, I think my first love was Frank Langella, when I saw him in Dracula (1979). This movie came out when I was just 5 years old, so when it happened to come on television several years later, I was totally enraptured by him. Frank gave Dracula an entirely romantic and passionate persona that I couldn't help but fall in love with, and this movie remains in my personal archive to this day. Frank had such class, refinement, and a debonair style that I can't find in today's versions of the same.

My next crush happened to be well-renowned horror actor, Vincent Price, another handsome devil of a man, whose flair for dark humor had me love horror even more—or at least helped me ease into it, as I had a terrible vivid imagination as a kid—watching horror movies for me always led me to leaving the lights on at night. I first saw him on a special creepy episode of The Muppet Show, and his witty candor made him another on my ‘crush' list.  I have a ton of his movies in my personal collection, a few of them particular favorites of mine, as he starred in many Poe-based movies by Roger Corman, like Masque of The Red Death and The Pit and The Pendulum—and I love Poe's works! The Comedy of Terrors is a perfect example of Vincent at his best when it comes to dark humor.

There are other actors that draw my eye because of something that seems creepy, quirky or unusual about them, or they just ‘stand out' from the norm. Udo Kier is a stunning actor that gives me the shivers just by looking at him. (And who could forget him as Dragonetti in Blade?) Christopher Walken is another. (Ever see him as the Hessian soldier/Headless Horseman in Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow? Yikes...  And he gave Archangel Gabriel the most unusual, quirky and creepy persona I've ever seen in The Prophecy trilogy. ) And although I wouldn't consider him macabre in the least, the first time I saw Sam Neill as a vampire in Daybreakers, my jaw dropped. I had always thought he was a handsome man, but the whole vampire aspect made him even more handsome (I'd love to see him in more roles like that!). Also (not too surprisingly, since I adore this man too), I think I'd love to see Alan Rickman in a Dracula-type role. I think he'd be able to play that character with the same kind of finesse that Frank Langella did *grin*.

Why such an interest in vampires? After Hollywood removed them from their horrific origins and turned them into the romantic creatures that they are perceived as today, vampires have enraptured us with their dark mysteries for decades. Some look at the inundation of vampires (along with zombies) as annoying these days, but despite the public's teeth-grinding, both of them are too prominent in society and all cultures to be going anywhere anytime soon.

And in light of their creepy beginnings, my latest book, DIARY OF A VAMPIRE STRIPPER takes a modern urban spin on both vamps and those ‘other' dead guys. A young woman named Audra in need of fast cash tries her hand at auditioning as a stripper, and lands a job, much to her surprise. Preparing herself to run into unsavory people during her stint there, she encounters a gentleman, who, unbeknown to her, is a vampire. After getting to know each other for a while, he invites her back to his beach house, where it all goes downhill from there. She awakens to finding herself craving blood, marks on her neck, and her lover nowhere in sight. Trying to adjust to this new predicament, plus continue her job while keeping her situation a secret isn't an easy feat, not to mention the other problems that lie ahead for her. Her only friend at the club seems to have some secrets of her own, plus a group of extremist cops who happen to know about ‘her kind' are out for blood themselves by destroying any of ‘them' that they come across. Audra's misadventures are both hilarious and disturbing, sort of a chick-lit, Thelma and Louise with a snarky, paranormal bite.

Whether there's a real story behind DIARY OF A VAMPIRE STRIPPER, I'll let the reader decide—my muse has a tendency to put ideas in my head at any given moment, and it's my job to get them down--else I'll hear too many voices in my head begging to have their voices heard! While I'm writing, I do love the chance to incorporate a bit of real-life experience into a story, and sometimes they're just so weird-sounding, no one would be able to tell which part was real and which was fiction, anyway *grin*. So whenever I hear that someone says my stories sound so real to them, I can't help but smile and think, ‘...and there's a good reason for it!'

Headless bodies are turning up on vamp and were turf, each side blaming the other for the murders. It's up to Audra and her friend Lu to figure out who's doing the killings, and their search leads them beneath the city streets to encounter an abomination neither one of them will ever forget.

And the relationship issues? Well, it's not easy dealing with a boyfriend and a vampire husband, so let's not even go there...
