Tina Seskis | How I Started Writing
March 16, 2015
One of the questions people often ask me these days is "When did you first want
to write?", and the bizarre thing is that I used to tell them that it was when I
was about thirty. I had taken a career break and had travelled to Goa, India,
where I took a room on the beach for a few weeks, confidently telling people
that I was planning on writing a novel. However, on the first day, after about
45 minutes (as you can see I rather lacked commitment!) of totally aimless
writing, I decided that it was never going to happen, and gave up. And so I
ticked off novel-writing from my bucket list and got on with enjoying the rest
of my trip. However, a few years later, my parents were having their loft reinsulated and
they came up to London with a car-load of my things and told me to do what I
liked with them, but that nothing was going back in their loft. And in amongst
the old clothes and bags and home-made puppets and holiday souvenirs I found
stories that I had written whilst I was in primary school, and journalist
courses I had wanted to apply for instead of the business one I'd gone for as it
was better for my career, and it seems I had completely forgotten that I had
once wanted to be a writer. It was as if I had blocked it out so I could get on
with getting a "proper job". I got back into writing when I took another mini-career break (can you spot a
theme here?) and I took up loads of different activities: writing, acting, yoga,
tennis, Italian - you get the picture. But the writing class was the absolute
highlight of my week, and I found that I loved every last second of it. And so
when I got the idea for a story I just started writing it down, and as the story
got longer and more complex I realised that it was in fact going to become a
novel, and ONE STEP TOO FAR was born. About ONE STEP TOO FARThe #1 international bestseller reminiscent of AFTER I'M GONE, SISTER, BEFORE I
GO TO SLEEP, and THE SILENT WIFE—an intricately plotted, thoroughly addictive
thriller that introduces a major new voice in suspense fiction—a mesmerizing and
powerful novel that will keep you guessing to the very end. No one has ever guessed Emily’s secret. Will you? A happy marriage. A beautiful family. A lovely home. So what makes Emily Coleman
get up one morning and walk right out of her life—to start again as someone new? Now, Emily has become Cat, working at a hip advertising agency in London and
living on the edge with her inseparable new friend, Angel. Cat’s buried any
trace of her old self so well, no one knows how to find her. But she can't bury
the past—or her own memories. And soon, she’ll have to face the truth of what she's done —a shocking
revelation that may push her one step too far. . . Read Fresh Fiction's Review of ONE

Congratulations on your book!! After reading your posting, it made me think for a minute, and the one thought that crossed my mind is that perhaps your book might not have reached the #1 international bestseller status, had you started writing sooner, so it was probably good that you delayed your book. It's probably bad for readers like us, because we were unable to get a taste of your writing talents, but as the saying goes - things happen for a reason!! I'm looking forward to reading your book, and when you get the accolades that you do, it makes a person want to read it even more!! I just want to read it, because I know that you put your heart into your book, and it will probably shine through, while reading the story. Congratulations again on your book, and I know it's going to do well!! May you have a long writing career!! (Peggy Roberson 10:53am March 17, 2015)

I've been dying to read any/all of your novels, but circumstances have conspired against us on a couple of occasions prior.
