Kae Elle Wheeler | Trip to New York

So I just returned from New York City. Wednesday, in fact. I was fortunate enough to get to see three shows in the 4 days that I was there.

The first night, after not winning tickets to see The Book of Mormon my husband and I went to the TKTs Booth in Times Square. A young man came by and asked if we had questions. I, of course, did. I pulled out my handy little list of shows I'd amassed prior to my trip and asked, "How 2 B A New Yorker," "Cinderella" or "First Date?"

"Cinderella," he said. (I love Cinderella, but I wanted something outrageous).

I started singing, "I'm as mild and as meek as a mouse..."

He interrupted me. "...no, you're not," he said. Then he started singing, "I'm Shy." (he sang really well). Then he said, "I've found your new favorite show." He steps away, then hurried back with a flyer. "NEWSical!"

"What?" I know my brow furrowed. I'd never heard of it.

"They have a new guest host every week," he said. "This week it's La Toya Jackson."

I still wasn't convinced.

"Try it. You will love it!" He was very insistent.

So we did. And well, we loved it. I wouldn't call it my new favorite, but it was really funny.

The next morning (Sunday), we went back to the lottery for The Book of Mormon. While we still didn't win, we were able to purchase the Standing Room Only tickets for $29 per ticket. Then after the intermission, one of the managers tapped me on the shoulder, told me to get my stuff and follow him. I thought I was in trouble. He took me to Row 9, found my husband and brought him down too. Wow!

Mondays are blacked out. Meaning, No Theater. So we had to wait until Tuesday evening. We were on the fence between Cinderella and Phantom of the Opera. (Ive seen Phantom seven times. I really was torn.) However, the man at the TKTs booth convinced me I would love Cinderella. And I did!!!! The costumes were so fabulous. They deepened the storyline, and added new songs. The old Rodgers and Hammerstein favorites are still there, but . . . OMG!!! Of course, I cried.

The problem is I've written a Cinderella Series of my own. And some of the changes (while different from my story) still mimicked parts of mine. I was shaking my head, thinking Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. In the end, though, it resembled nothing like my stories, but was truly fascinating to see.

So, in celebration of my series and my joy in seeing Cinderella on Broadway in NYC, I am offering one winner a copy of each of the three books.

Don't you just love a great story. . . sigh

The Wronged Princess

What happens when Prince Charming slides Cinderella's glass slipper onto the foot of her batty-eyed stepsister? He finds himself betrothed to the wrong girl, of course!

The Unlikely Heroine

Pricilla is one damsel who does not need rescuing by a Prince Charming unlike her sister, Cinderella. She is a modern woman. Marriage and children? Hah! She has brains and intends to use them.

Sir Arnald is used to women falling at his feet. After all, his mother's magical matchmaking machinations are all too obvious. Yet how is it that Lady Pricilla is immune to his mother's hexes and those of his own compellation powers?

And will they live when they find themselves running from villains embroiled with smuggled goods and danger? At least until true love sweeps in . .

The Surprising Enchantress

Esmeralda's illusion of Happily-Ever-After shatters when she overhears her crush of five years tell his father that not only is he unprepared for marriage, but in no uncertain terms would he ever marry a woman wih an unsightly afflictions as hers. Her one teeny problem? When she's nervous, her eyes flutter enough change the weather.

Everything Alessandro de Lecce knew about himself and his family comes to a shocking halt when he's informed that Chalmers Kingdom was stolen from their family. And now the time has come to launch their siege.

Surrounded by Royal intrigue, Esmeralda and Alessandro must fight together to save the kingdom and the future heir.

Comment to win a copy of The Wronged Princess, The Unlikely Heroine, or The Surprising Enchantress

Re: Kae Elle Wheeler | Trip to New York

The Unlikely Heroines sounds like a really fun book. I can't wait to see how the story plays out since in the origional she is such a mean person and it is hard for me to picture her deserving of a good guy.

The Wronged Princess sounds funny- doing a wrong sister switch for the shoe. What a surprise for the prince!
(Suzanne Bischoff 2:30am September 16, 2013)

It would be so exciting to go to New York and see a play, let alone see 3!! How I wish that I had been able to tag along with you!! It seems like you know all of the ins and outs of getting into the theaters to see the plays, as well as which ones are worth seeing!! I can only imagine how extravagant Cinderella alone was with the Costumes!! As for your books, I've loved Fairy Tales, in any form, since I was a child. The slant that you've put on yours makes Cinderella a bit more interesting, and a great way to start of my Fall reading with a bang!! I definately have your books on my TBR list, and am looking forward to reading them. The Wronged Princess is the book that has especially caught my eye, and I know I'll enjoy reading that one first!!

What a great set of prizes. I am a theatre buff and would love
to go see Broadway shows on Broadway! I have to settle for the
touring companies...but I just love the magic of theatre.

It sounds like you a had a wonderful trip. Your books sound wonderful, thanks for sharing.
(Jean Patton 9:54am September 16, 2013)

I live an hour from NYC but haven't been there in years. I'm not a city person.
(Sandy Giden 10:10am September 16, 2013)

It was a great trip. The first time I was there, I'd gone to
a conference in NJ. I stayed a couple of extra days to go
into the city. I saw Promises Promises w/Kristin Chenowith
and Sean Hayes. I was sitting next to this lady who was
looking at her program. She said, oh, look, the boss is the
same guy who played the bad guy in Ghost. I grabbed my
program and started looking at the actors credits. And
couldn't believe I hadn't been there before. That was about
3 years ago. Now I've been 4 times!
(Kathy Wheeler 10:25am September 16, 2013)

Funny how we grown girls still love Cinderella!
(Cherie Durbin 10:25am September 16, 2013)

Never been to New York. Maybe someday!
(Vicki Hancock 10:33am September 16, 2013)

Exactly! Cherie. My story is a take off from the '65 version
with Leslie Ann Warren and Ginger Rogers.
(Kathy Wheeler 10:35am September 16, 2013)

Sounds Wonderful - I got to go last year to see Book of Mormon. What a happening!
(Beth Elder 10:54am September 16, 2013)

Great post, Kathy. Glad you had a good time. I think all romance writers like Cinderella and other Disney flicks. After all, they all have a HEA.
(Callie Hutton 10:54am September 16, 2013)

It was CRAZY, Beth. Great story!
(Kathy Wheeler 11:01am September 16, 2013)

Sounds like you had a great time in NYC. I LOVE going there to see shows. Your book sounds GREAT. Thanks for the chance to win. Best of luck with the book.
(Nancy Reynolds 11:16am September 16, 2013)

I so want to go to NY.
(LeeAnne Hardin 12:41pm September 16, 2013)

Callie, this Cinderella is not Disney, it's Rodgers and
Hammerstein. Big difference. The original Broadway
Production was in 1958, when Cinderella was portrayed by
Julie Andrews. I laugh when I think of the movie Victor
Victoria! Both Julie Andrews and Leslie Ann Warren play a
transvestite and hooker, respectively. Because Mary Poppins
and Cinderella, respectively. It's a great movie from the
early 80's. Hysterical!
(Kathy Wheeler 12:41pm September 16, 2013)

You would love it, LeeAnne.
(Kathy Wheeler 12:42pm September 16, 2013)

Oh I am really liking the sound of this book... love the variations in fairytales... thanks for sharing!
(Colleen Conklin 12:45pm September 16, 2013)

Sounds good. I like the fairy tale connection. I never see Broadway or other plays. I did see The Mousetrap in Toronto about 12 years ago. It was a very small theater but that was okay because I'm short and I was able to sit right up front with no one in front of me.
(Michelle Fidler 3:12pm September 16, 2013)

Please enter me. I have not read any of your books. Would like to and review them.
(Jane Squires 5:20pm September 16, 2013)

I love NYC - my family and I have been there twice. My daughter and I look
forward to seeing the shows more than anything. We haven't seen
Cinderella yet, but I would love to. The cover of The Surprising
Enchantress is beautiful, and the story sounds so fun and interesting.
Congratulations and thanks for the chance to win!!!
(Linda Brennan 5:27pm September 16, 2013)

I've never seen a Broadway play. That would be so special. The books sound fabulous!
(Marcy Shuler 5:34pm September 16, 2013)

You're welcome, Linda. Marcelyn--that needs to go on your
bucket list. Upscale musicals are soooo fun.
(Kathy Wheeler 5:38pm September 16, 2013)

Frances
September16, 2013

Taking care of my mom and I love to read.
(Frances LoGiudice 7:13pm September 16, 2013)

I love rewritten fairy tales. Cinderella is one of my favorites. No matter how old I
get, I still like to sit down and watch Rodgers and Hammerstein's version, as
well as Disney's version. And any books that have a Cinderella theme, you can
bet they are on my shelf!
Thanks for the giveaway!
(Becca Luman 7:18pm September 16, 2013)

Wow, Congrats on your 3 new books: THE WRONGED PRINCESS, THE
UNLIKELY HEROINE, THE SURPRISING ENCHANTRESS. All 3 books
sound fascinating and I am sure that I would enjoy all 3. I
have always enjoyed Cinderella. Yes, it sounds like you had
a wonderful time in New York City. I have never been there.
I would love to win and read your books this Fall. Thank You
very much. Cecilia CECE
(Cecilia Dunbar Hernandez 8:34pm September 16, 2013)

Enjoyed reading your blog. Been to New York once and also got to enjoy seeing three shows, just to long ago for me to remember if I enjoyed them that much.
(Sheila True 8:50pm September 16, 2013)

What a great time in New York you had to be able to see three shows.
(Maureen Emmons 9:11pm September 16, 2013)

Your trip sounds like you had an awesome time!! I can't wait
to read the new books as well...very intriguing and
enchanting!!

I'd love to see the show & read your books. Fantastic.
(Mary Preston 7:58am September 17, 2013)

I've never been to New York theater so I'm super jealous. An updated Cinderella would be a fun read. Thanks for the contest.
(Sue Farrell 5:50pm September 17, 2013)

I'd love to have the opportunity to see several nights of musicals on Broadway; I'm glad you got to have the experience. Your story sounds like a lot of fun.
(Janie McGaugh 9:38pm September 17, 2013)

I have never been to New York. I have heard from my co-worker who went there with her husband to see Wicked in New York that it was great. It sounds like a Cinderella weekend. I want to have the Cinderella experience with my special fiance.
(Kai Wong 1:52am September 18, 2013)

I have never been to NYC or saw a show live... I am a book-
a-holic... Thank you for doing this! Good Luck everyone !
