Donna Thorland | A Tale of Two Lovers -- Enemies and ...

Enjoy a review of THE TURNCOAT by Fresh Fiction reviewer Joanne Bozik

Major Peter Tremayne, Lord Sancreed and Kate Grey are are lovers on opposite sides the American Revolutionary war, and everything is at stake and no way to turn back the hands of time. There is no one to trust, especially each other. Kate should not be falling in love with Peter, but love is love, and she responds to his seduction. Kate is caught up between so many lies, she wants to surrender, but when she finds out that a spy exists in her household and this spy steals military dispatches from Tremayne causing Kate in the position of high treason. Tremayne is disgraced and he also is being watched.

Kate, even though she's in love with Peter will take many risks during the war to make sure General Washington receives very important information that will change the ways of the war. She is fully aware that she's putting Peter's life on the line, but continues to pass information to an undercover spy in the city Philadelphia, (the city of Brotherly love). Months later the war is over, but Kate is told that Peter is either dead or taken abroad. She visit's a spy master whom she never liked, hoping he will reveal whether Peter is alive or dead. I won't tell you a spoiler, but this book is one great read, a true Romance Historical with great characters, twists and turns and sensuality a plus!

Will Kate find Peter alive or dead? Is he back in England living a good life, not thinking of her. This book is a true page turner, loved it very much!! And the author gave me a bit of history of the war that I'd forgotten. THE TURNCOAT is a must read!

Kate Grey, the protagonist of Donna Thorland's rollicking debut novel THE TURNCOAT: Renegades of the Revolution (NAL Trade Paperback Original; March 5, 2013; $15.00), is fictional, but the woman who inspired her was very real.

THE TURNCOAT by Donna Thorland

It's 1777 in rural Pennsylvania, and Quaker Kate Grey and British officer Peter Tremayne have a connection that is undeniable. But when Kate's "Aunt Angela," who is posing as a master spy, steals Peter's military documents, he is disgraced and run out of town. Eventually Peter returns to Philadelphia to apprehend the woman who betrayed him, Angela Ferrers. But when he arrives in town he realizes that, Kate, the love of his life has a new fiancé, and is working undercover for the Rebel cause. If captured, she will be tortured and executed. Fighting for their love and their life, Peter and Kate are caught between duty and desire, pursuing their military objectives even as they refuse to expose each other. This outstanding novel of romance and suspense captures the high ideals, and even higher stakes, of our country's fight for independence.

Re: Donna Thorland | A Tale of Two Lovers -- Enemies and ...

I love stories between enemies because there is always this tension between
them.

I love to read love stories between enemies. It happened a lot I know during all the wars. Please enter me to win.
(Jane Squires 3:39am March 6, 2013)

I admit that I have not read a romance where the main
characters were on opposite sides of a war. That is one heck
of a conflict. Am curious.
(G. Bisbjerg 3:40am March 6, 2013)

I would think it would be hard to fall in love with your enemy. It will take some clever writing to pull this off.
(Kathleen Yohanna 5:06am March 6, 2013)

A compelling idea which interests me greatly.

I think that the fire the ignites a person to hate can be also directed to love. I find that hate is a passionate emotion and that passion can be redirected. I think that the best way to engage me is the verbal foreplay of an excellent debate - so, yes, I think enemies can become lovers.

Destiny is destiny...there is no predicting who you fall in love with...would love to read this book!!!
(Bonnie Capuano 9:56am March 6, 2013)

I think that the storyline is fascinating - the conflict is a great place to start - and, as a resident of Philadelphia, I love that the story is partly set there! History is SO cool!

Two people can find each other attractive without agreeing on politics. I'd like to read more about this period.
(Clare O'Beara 10:08am March 6, 2013)

I would find it difficult to be attracted to a known enemy of my country, but I think the story interesting.
(Anna Speed 11:07am March 6, 2013)

Love stories between enemies always have this extra chemestry. Like fireworks just waiting to ignite.
(Pam Howell 11:11am March 6, 2013)

they sound good.
(Kent Cook 11:13am March 6, 2013)

Love between enemies would be the hardest of all loves for one you hate
the person you are falling I love with and can you really trust the person
you want to love it would be so complex
(Ava Curtis 11:47am March 6, 2013)

I love historical fiction and enjoy love stories between enemies. The conflict and tension make the stories more interesting.

I haven't read a book that I can recall with people on both sides of an active war, but this one sure sounds interesting.
(Marcy Shuler 6:40pm March 6, 2013)

I love stories set during the War for Independence and have
always wondered what might have happened between those on
different sides when there was an attraction.
(Diane Sallans 7:56pm March 6, 2013)

I have read a couple of books with such a major conflict and found they are amazing read. There is nothing stronger than two people fighting for what they believe as they fight the attraction they have for the enemy. Love them!
(Annetta Sweetko 8:45pm March 6, 2013)

Duty and desire make for a complicated relationship. Who can resist reading this complex story.
(Joanne Hicks 9:03pm March 6, 2013)

I must admit that if by some chance I was the person to win this book and read it, it would be the first time that I would read this particular type of Historical Romance, being a love story between enemies. I haven't read a book before, having to do with American History in this vein as well, and after reading both reviews, I am totally hooked, and wish the book were in my hands right now!!
(Peggy Roberson 9:24pm March 6, 2013)

Sounds interesting!
(Charlene Fraley 9:47pm March 6, 2013)

love the title of the book, looks very interesting...great job..
(Kimberly Hoefs 10:42pm March 6, 2013)

I love them. I'm actually writing one now about a vampire and a vampire hunter who despise each other with so much passion that it eventually grows into something beautiful. I can;t wait to finish it, like I can't wait to read this book :)
(Meghan Anderson 10:48pm March 6, 2013)

This book sounds great. Would love to win. Thanks for a chance.
(Linda Hall 11:06pm March 6, 2013)

Enemies turn lover plots are interesting because the dynamic is a love/hate feel.
Definitely havn't read much like this but I would really love to read, "The Turncoat".
Thank you for the giveaway!
(Lazydrag0n Puff 11:25pm March 6, 2013)

I love enemies turn to lovers storyline. Both sides learn a lot from each other that sometimes everything is not what it seems. That's when they overcome their differences.
(Kai Wong 12:08pm March 7, 2013)

Love and hate are both strong emotions that tend to be linked. You can't really hate someone you don't have some kind of relationship with (you CAN dislike them intensely), and you can't really love someon you don't have some kind of relationship with (you can lust after them or like them or even idolize them, but not TRULY love them). Both emotions involve our entire attention, so they make for excitement.
(Donna Holmberg 12:31pm March 7, 2013)

I love all romances. I haven't read too many between enemies, but sounds like and interesting premiss.
(Carol Woodruff 5:53pm March 7, 2013)

This sounds like an interesting love story and historical novel written about a time that does not get a lot of coverage.
