Jean Brashear | Too Sexy For His...Coat?

Dante Sabanne is mysterious and powerful, magical, compelling, a true master of the erotic arts and...too sexy for his coat.

What??? you ask. Seriously, Jean?

Seriously...it was a coat that started all of it, this whole hot, hot, hot, magical, mysterious and moody tale of a brand-new detective out to prove herself...and the expert witness who mesmerizes her, who takes Jace Carroll, a woman who could be another Beckett (Castle rocks, right? Though I only started watching it this fall--love it!) cop to the bone, tough, indomitable, fiercely independent and willing to lean on no one--

And turns her every which way but loose. Fascinates her, seduces her, deceives her...brings her to the brink of betraying everything she ever believed in and beyond...

Coats, Jean...you were talking about coats. Yes, I was. And still am. This book is unlike any I've ever written, a scorching tale of suspense, passion and magic centering on a traveling nightclub that's more about sex than dancing, a cult steeped in...okay, sex (do we sense a theme here?)...a blood feud, a magical amulet, a bastard heir and the brother who will stop at nothing to destroy him...and the detective whose first case, the simple death of a drifter, becomes a tangle that will threaten everything she thought she knew about herself.

And it all began in...Burlington Coat Factory. Where I was...Christmas shopping. For...my children. Exactly the venue and frame of mind where you'd expect to have a sizzling story explode in your brain, right?

Me either. But there I was, heading out of the store on this diagonal aisle, scanning the racks to my right, when this man--tall, long, dark hair, greatcoat flying behind him--passed me on the left, and I...shivered.

I know. Writers are sick folks, right? But it happened, serious pinky swear. He was past me so quickly, and I never even glanced back to get a better look. Because, for whatever reason, I was consumed by this immediate image of a sorcerer-like figure, this dark, mysterious man who could, without ever speaking or making eye contact, take me completely out of the real world at that moment and...make me shiver.

I knew his name immediately. Dante. And I had to know more. I barely saw the traffic all the way home (occupational hazard; scares my beloved to death) and I cannot tell you to this day where the rest of this complex tale came from, but I knew I had to write him. Had to find out who he was. Wanted to shiver again.

I'm pretty sure that when you read SURRENDER, the last thing you'll be thinking of is Burlington Coat Factory. But when you meet Dante Sabanne, I hope you too will have the very great pleasure of letting Dante make you...shiver.

Tell us if you've ever had an experience with a stranger, where your imagination ran amuck? One commenter will win their choice of one of Jean's three recent e-books, THE CHOICE, THE PEARL OF PARADISE, or SURRENDER.

Re: Jean Brashear | Too Sexy For His...Coat?

Being from NH, the "Burlington Coat Factory" reference caught my eye. What kept my attention however was the plot description. Sounds like a great read!
(Denise Malia 12:25pm October 11, 2011)

I would love to read this...mystical & sexy...just my kind of read!
(Karima Chiali 1:07am October 11, 2011)

I haven't had that type of experience, but I would love to have my imagination run amuck with a stranger. I'd love to read Surrender
(Lisa Kendall 1:20am October 11, 2011)

I definately have had that type of experience but it is too x rated to go into now.
(Kathleen Bianchi 1:29am October 11, 2011)

Kathleen, not nice to hold out on us! ;)
(Jean Brashear 6:50am October 11, 2011)

Thanks, Denise!

Karima and Lisa, you night owls...I'm so jealous! I always wanted to be one of those who are up when everyone else is asleep...sigh. In my next life...:)
(Jean Brashear 7:16am October 11, 2011)

Hehe... I have seen good-looking guys and tried to check them out discreetly before... but they are just good-looking guy and not mysterious sexy guys...
(May Pau 7:52am October 11, 2011)

But you took a chance and took a look, May--that's the important part!Gotta check out the man candy, right?;)
(Jean Brashear 8:10am October 11, 2011)

No, never happened to me but I wish it would! Lucky you!
(Barbara Hanson 8:43am October 11, 2011)

Looks like a great read!
(Summer Grinstead 9:12am October 11, 2011)

I've never read any of her books but would love to.
(Anne Derkat 10:09am October 11, 2011)

That was a great story. I wish my imagination were like that.
(Pam Howell 10:16am October 11, 2011)

LOL, Pam...or maybe you should be glad your imagination isn't! My beloved often has to remind me that most of what's going on in my head concerns people who aren't real. ;)

He comes home from the office, and I love hearing about his day. He's always good about asking me what happened during mine, and I'm immediately seized by the notion that SO much has gone on during that very busy day...only to stop cold, realizing that most of it actually does concern, um...people who don't exist. Doing things that didn't happen. LOL
(Jean Brashear 11:06am October 11, 2011)

I have a feeling this will be one of those books that makes me say before bed, 'Just one more chapter' numerous times resulting in a very sleepy me the nest day!
(Jane Limback 11:13am October 11, 2011)

I was riding the subway early in the morning and saw a handsome rugged looking man with a not very long but dark blonde hair suggestive of a lion's mane. He was dressed in plaid flannel shirt, worn jeans, and brown work boots. This man was also clearly exhausted. It made me wonder about him and all of the reason's why he might be riding that train and the happenings in the day up to this point.
(G. Bisbjerg 11:30am October 11, 2011)

I have let my imagination run away before... sometimes my sister and I sit and watch people and make up stories about them and tell each other... it is amazing what one can imagine!
(Colleen Conklin 1:44pm October 11, 2011)

I like the way you think, Jane. ;)
(Jean Brashear 2:05pm October 11, 2011)

Cool, G.--I'm always seeing people somewhere and filling in the rest of the story...

Colleen, sounds like you could be a writer!
(Jean Brashear 2:06pm October 11, 2011)

Wow. Ok, I must admit my imagination does get ahold of me. I love
people watching, creating stories in my head for everyone..even as I
drive along the road..my experience with strangers, well, with that
healthy dose of imagination, I can find myself also taken aback and
intrigued more by my story than the actual person..hyperaware. Your
story sounds great.
(Carla Carlson 2:09pm October 11, 2011)

Carla, clearly my sister under the skin! ;) Thanks for dropping by!
(Jean Brashear 2:44pm October 11, 2011)

During several decades of my life, when I lived both in Europe and in the United States, many attractive males not of my acquaintance--complete strangers to me--approached me in all manner of places and transportation. I never bit; however, subsequently, I dreamed more than once of many of them.....including one very famous. These are the seeds of good stories saved and stored for later. I could have changed the course of my life many times. In some ways, portions of my life have been more like the novels I love.
(Carla Schuller 3:09pm October 11, 2011)

Sounds fantastic! Thanks for the awesome post and giveaway!
(Erin Fender 3:10pm October 11, 2011)

Um, Carla S...we need details! LOL

The road not taken is a powerful image, isn't it? Great resonance, I think.
(Jean Brashear 3:42pm October 11, 2011)

Thanks, Erin!
(Jean Brashear 3:42pm October 11, 2011)

Jean - You have me hook, line & sinker! I was on a cruise to nowhere (the cruise from hell) once & meet a man (he pursued me). For 1 night of dancing & laughing (especially when he swung me off of my feet & my heel caught the back of his leg & we fell on the dance floor),he turned the cruise from hell to a fantasy.
(Beverly Beltz 4:45pm October 11, 2011)

I WAS ON A BUSINESS TRIP MANY YEARS AGO WHEN I MET A SEXY STRANGER IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM..A MUNDANE SPOT FOR A STEAMY TIME!
(Silvana Moscato 5:23pm October 11, 2011)

I was riding my motorcycle past a running path and saw a shirtless college-aged guy sprinting down the path with black curls like from an ancient coin and pale, perfect pecs. I'm haunting that path from now on!
(Lisa Elwood 5:24pm October 11, 2011)

Wow, Beverly! Great story! Reminds me of a guy I met when stranded at an airport overnight. He was recommended by a friend, but I don't think she ever envisioned I'd go home with him. Mmmmm...

Jean, you bad, bad girl!
(Jean Brashear 5:26pm October 11, 2011)

Silvana! Tell us more!
(Jean Brashear 5:26pm October 11, 2011)

Um, Lisa, what time shall we all join you? ;)
(Jean Brashear 5:27pm October 11, 2011)

I haven't had that type of experience but it sounds wonderful!
(Lisa Garrett 6:15pm October 11, 2011)

Well, Lisa G...there's still time. ;)
(Jean Brashear 6:19pm October 11, 2011)

Thank God for your books . Fun exciting hunks and I dont have to leave my house .
(Sarah Colbert 6:56pm October 11, 2011)

LOL Sarah! No need to get out of your jammies...my kind of day!
(Jean Brashear 7:05pm October 11, 2011)

While I'm here, anybody want to give opinions on the SURRENDER cover?
(Jean Brashear 7:06pm October 11, 2011)

Because I live out in the country, I don't get out in the city that often. There have been times that while I've been shopping in the city, I've seen a person or been near a person, and my imagination has run away with me, because that particular person has given me the creeps for whatever reason. It could be that they look like they're going to rob the store, or jump someone in the parking lot, or whatever, and I get jumpy. In today's world, one never knows what is going to happen. I love the cover of your book. It looks as mysterious as the storyline. You picked a great name for the main character, and I put you on my TBR list. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post today!!
(Peggy Roberson 7:37pm October 11, 2011)

Well, thank you, Peggy! And I very much appreciate the opinion on the cover!
(Jean Brashear 8:19pm October 11, 2011)

The choice would be my choice
(Cheryl Stillwell 8:26pm October 11, 2011)

Sounds like I'm a little like Carla....I've met or just took a very long look at a few men, and have ended up dreaming about them. IDK why, it's weird, there's something about an intense stare from an extremely handsome man that throws me all outta whack! ;)
(Sebrina Cassity 8:39pm October 11, 2011)

This sounds like fun. Meeting men where they shop is more likely in a hardware store, but a coat store might work since men are always in season.
(Alyson Widen 8:40pm October 11, 2011)

jean i have read some of the book and put the blog info on good-reads for you but i have not been able to put a couple of them but i now you are great writer and then you will succeed
(Desiree Reilly 8:44pm October 11, 2011)

Thanks, Cheryl--here's hoping you win!
(Jean Brashear 8:44pm October 11, 2011)

Sebrina, you sound pretty normal to me!;)
(Jean Brashear 8:45pm October 11, 2011)

Alyson, LOL...yep, men are always in season in my neck of the woods!
(Jean Brashear 8:45pm October 11, 2011)

Desiree, thank you--so glad you've enjoyed the ones you won!
(Jean Brashear 8:46pm October 11, 2011)

The cover of the book Pearl of Paradise looks very intising.
(Barbara Evans 8:58pm October 11, 2011)

Thanks, Barbara! I like the moon gate, particularly. Appreciate the feedback!
(Jean Brashear 9:07pm October 11, 2011)

I've never had that experience.
(Wilma Frana 9:07pm October 11, 2011)

I have had the exprience a few times. I used to work in "the big city" and I commuted by train. A man got on with a couple of his friends. Immediately I imagined he was dangerous and I could get hurt. Fate stepped in, a few days later I found out he was a student at a local university! Geez!
(Jennifer Beyer 9:37pm October 11, 2011)

Well, Wilma, I'm going to hope you get to--and soon!
(Jean Brashear 9:41pm October 11, 2011)

Shoot, Jennifer, that's all kinds of unfair, huh? ;)
(Jean Brashear 9:42pm October 11, 2011)

I've eyed a few sexy strangers and sighed over them but never was imaginative enough to dream up anything like your book! It sounds fun.
(Jenny Schwartzberg 9:50pm October 11, 2011)

hmmm....the Surrender cover....gives me the shivers! LOL But in a *good* way...;)
(Sheila Calabretta 9:51pm October 11, 2011)

I'm with you, Sheila! I'm a sucker for a man with dreamy eyes... ***sigh***
(Glenda Wildeman 10:02pm October 11, 2011)

Sounds like a great book. I can't wait to read it.
(Tracy Brown 10:09pm October 11, 2011)

Jenny, come hang with me. We'll talk. ;)
(Jean Brashear 10:44pm October 11, 2011)

Sheila, thank you...and Glenda, too. Those eyes...I'm with you!
(Jean Brashear 10:45pm October 11, 2011)

Thanks, Tracy! I loved writing it!
(Jean Brashear 10:46pm October 11, 2011)

oh my gosh, what a great story, it makes me wonder sometimes where this country called Imaga Nation really exists, because sometimes it does bleed through. Writers and other lucky people have an outlet for it. I have had strange thoughts before. Some times I even speak them aloud and get that funny, just sprouted two heads look. It's good to know I'm not alone. :^) Sounds like an awesome book.
(Heidi Durham 10:59pm October 11, 2011)

That's great, Heidi...Imaga Nation. Love it!

We should start a Two Heads Society.;)
(Jean Brashear 11:26pm October 11, 2011)

I love the cover of Surrender. Love the eye...mysterious, sexy, intense & dangerous.
