How do you keep your fiction fresh when writing a long running and popular series?

The characters are the key. They're not all the same. They're human—to an extent. And wolves. Or jaguar shifters. They have different lives. Different pasts. Different futures. They have different needs. Different motivations. The plots are not the same.

I'm working on book 3 in the Heart of the Jaguar series right now, Jaguar Heat, and I've been asked often in interviews, "Which hero do you like the best?" It's always the book I'm working on this very instant because my heart and soul is in the creation of the characters.

In JAGUAR FEVER, book 2, David Patterson, Wade's brother—who is the hero in Jaguar Fever—tried to steal the show. I had to fight with him constantly. My editors fell in love with him. He had to have his story in book 3. And he's a total character. I've had fans help me with research, and I have to tell you, we were all laughing so hard, it's been difficult getting serious with him. :)

He is real. Flesh and blood, and funnier and sexier than should be allowed.

But they all are. Really. The heroine brings it out in them. But they're different too. Different circumstances. So in A HIGHLAND WEREWOLF WEDDING (in stores this month!) we have Cearnach, middle MacNeill brother, who is a leader of men, just like his older brother Ian. And he takes charge when he needs to. But he's different. Whereas Ian is trying to hold a castle's finances together and his people at the same time in Heart of the Highland Wolf, Cearnach has promised a lass he will attend her wedding no matter how angry that might make the groom and his side of the family in A Highland Werewolf Wedding. And ends up trying to protect a woman he had attempted to safeguard many years early, only this time he means to do it right. He was always their cousin Flynn's good friend, and now Flynn intends to help pay the friendship back in the only way that suits his reputation and character.

In Duncan's story, A HOWL FOR A HIGHLANDER, he's a warrior at heart and no woman will distract him from his mission. Never say never. Right?

So the fun in creating unique stories is to have fun and interesting characters who have different goals, different jobs, and are just truly distinctive in some way. Ian is the best swordsman of his clan and wolf pack and shows a swordsmanship instructor for a movie being held at the castle a thing or two about real fighting while in battle. Even Duncan shows off his swordsman skills during a fight with pretend pirates on a pirate cruise in the Caribbean in a much more humorous way. And Cearnach battles for the woman he loves when he's fighting with a sword. Though he ends up having to switch to his wolf coat for the final showdown as they usually do.

But the end game is always different, in distinctive places and with different conflicts.

With Cearnach, he's wearing a kilt in the beginning and end of the book for my kilt-loving fans. There's just something about a Highlander in a kilt and when he's all wolf? Hot!

So are you ready for Cearnach? He's so ready for you! And did you know that there's another hunky Highland werewolf pack on the horizon? Yep, A Hero of a Highland Wolf coming in Spring 2014, and looks like Mistletoe, Mayhem and the Highland Wolf will be out in October in time for Christmas next year!

Are you ready???

A HIGHLAND WERWOLF WEDDING - IN STORES MAY 2013

On The Run...

After werewolves Elaine Hawthorn and Cearnach MacNeill almost have a head-on collision on a foggy Highland road, they're pretty well stuck with each other. It'll be hours before anyone can get there to pull his car out of the ditch and they both have better places to be.

And Nowhere to Hide From Each Other...

The sexy little American brings out all of Cearnach's big bag protective instincts. If she thought she was in trouble before, Elaine has no idea what kind of complications a hot Scot can cause...

Delightful, steamy, and devilishly funny, join the hundreds of thousands of readers who already discovered that USA Today bestseller Terry Spear delivers a sizzle worth howling about.
