That's what happens to Nirvana Aphrodite (Vana for short). Yes, she knows that name is a mouthful and quite a lot to live up to if she were a normal genie, but since she can't manage to get her magic to work right at all, the name is doubly hard to live up to.

Especially when her twin sister Aphrodite Nirvana is the family superstar.

And when Zane Harrison lets her out of the bottle she's been stuck in practicing for the last hundred years, well, things still don't go according to plan.

When I first started writing my Bottled Magic series, I thought, "How fun! Magic! I can have lots of fun with magic!" Except that magic can fix everything. Where would the story be? The genie could give their master anything he or she wanted and of course they'd want the genie to stick around. I mean, was there ever any doubt that Major Nelson would end up marrying Jeannie? Puhleaze. The man would have to have sucked in too much moon dust to not want her.

Magic, it turns out, can get in the way of a story. So I had to come up with a way for magic not to fix everything. In I DREAM OF GENIES, it was the fact that magic leaves a spectral trail for other genies to find, so Eden, the heroine, couldn't do magic. In GENIE KNOWS BEST, Samantha made a silly wish to never say "I wish" around Kal, her genie, and therefore he couldn't do magic. So what was left for MAGIC GONE WILD?

Out of control magic. And poor Vana has no control She's the reason Zane's family has always been considered eccentric and why he was teased as a kid. Needless to say, finding a genie, for Zane, isn't quite as exciting as it would be for say, you or me.

Especially when she breaks his legs. And holds him at sword point. And animates the vacuum cleaner while hanging upside down in his foyer where anyone could see her. And destroying his kitchen with flour and pigeons (at the same time...), lighting his back yard on fire, setting the gargoyle statues on his roof loose, and a whole host of other things.

Oh, and she comes with a talking phoenix named Merlin Pendragon who has all the arrogance of his namesake—or actually the wizard who was named after him.

Zane has inherited a loony bin. But when he tries to sell it, things just go from bad to worse. Now someone else knows about Vana and is determined to user her for his own gain. If there's anything worse than an inept genie, it's an inept genie at the beck and call of a greedy and selfish master.

Here's an excerpt to whet your whistle:

Well, that hadn't gone over so well.

Gee, you think? Vana set the box of dishes on the back of the sofa and kissed her red dress into the closet inside her bottle upstairs. No sense in letting a perfectly good outfit go to waste in the spectrasphere. After all, she'd been trying to conjure that exact Ungaro creation when Zane had shown up in her bottle.

Why had Zane shown up inside her bottle? She had yet to figure that out. She'd never heard of any mortal doing that—though, she had kinda missed out on some genie-training essentials.

Vana adjusted her lavender T-shirt to lay flat over the matching shorts and pulled her hair into a ponytail. The children were bound to be rowdy when she freed them from the box after spending so much time cooped up.

"So now what? You want to go after him?" Merlin, wings outstretched, coasted around Vana with a bit of a breeze on his second pass around the parlor.

"No." She opened the box lid, the muted blue-and-green leaf china pattern belying the energy vibrating from the eight children. She'd hated to magick them from the study during the party, but they'd known better than to be out and about when Peter had guests. She was going to have to talk to them about that.

"You sure you want to unleash them?" Merlin poked his beak into the box. "You do remember why they're like that, don't you?"

"Hush, Merlin. They think you're serious." She removed Anthony.

Merlin's feathers changed color to the black-and-white-striped pattern of a referee's shirt. "I am."

She flicked his beak away from the children. "No one's asking you to stay."

"Good. Have fun with that. I'm outta here." He left in a flash of flames that looked like little tongues sticking out at her.

She shook her head. Merlin always said he didn't like children, but he obviously liked acting like one.

Pro-football player Zane Harrison finally has control of the family estate and is determined to put to rest his grandfather's eccentric reputation. I remember hearing about your prior books somewhere, and I am now kicking myself if you'll pardon the expression - "from here to sundown," that I never got them to read!! After reading this excerpt, I can't wait to get my hands on this book!! It sounds just like the kind of book I'd love to curl up with for early Fall, with a nice cup of tea, and my new kittens at my side. I'm sure I'll enjoy every page, and it'll be one of those books that I won't put down until the end. Thank you for coming to let us know about this book, because I'll be putting your other books at the top of my TBR list for now, and will be sure to read the other one as well!! The cover is great, too!! Congratulations on what I'm sure will be a hit!!
(Peggy Roberson 5:21pm August 31, 2012)

Hi Judi! Although I loved your Tritone books dearly-I'm sooooo excited
with this series. You can never go wrong with magic. Especially if it goes
askew. I mean, isn't that why we all loved Aunt Clara from the Bewitched
tv show? Vana sounds like a fun character and can't wait to read Magic
gone Wild.
(Susan S 5:37pm August 31, 2012)

(Kimberley Coover 1:21am September 1, 2012)

A genie sounds convenient - put him back in the bottle when you don't need him around - but I sure it won't work out that way. This could be just like the Meg Langslow mysteres, which I love - Murder with Peacocks etc.
(Clare O'Beara 6:09am September 1, 2012)

This sounds like fun - thank you!
(Victoria Sloboda 12:14pm September 1, 2012)

(Debby Creager 2:37pm September 1, 2012)

Hi everyone and I'm so sorry I couldn't get here yesterday - real life erupted with a vengeance and it carried over to today. But you all have taken away a lot of the angst with your lovely comments. It's so nice to see so many of you who are familiar with my books, and those who aren't, I hope you will be soon. :) Enjoy the stories; I had a great time "meeting" Vana and Zane and hope you will too. :)
(Judi Fennell 4:39pm September 1, 2012)

I enjoyed the excerpt, and I think Magic Gone Wild sounds like a wonderful read.
(Barbara Elness 5:50pm September 1, 2012)
