Vampires are nothing but trouble. When I started writing the Legacy series for Samhain Publishing it was supposed to be all about werewolves. I’d already written a series about vampires (Dalakis Passion for Ellora’s Cave) and this time I wanted to explore a world filled with werewolves. But Damek popped up in Alexandra’s Legacy, book 1 of the Legacy series, and kept popping up in future books taking on a bigger role in the unfolding stories. Like any undead, he just wouldn’t stay dead.

Now I love vampires as much as the next girl. There’s something both alluring and heartbreaking about a man who has lived so many years. He’s seen the world change, kingdoms rise and fall. And through it all he’s remained unchanged, at least in appearance. What must it be like to see everyone you love turn to dust while you remain? Does it keep you from forming attachments to humans? That’s what happened to Damek. He trusts no one and has become very isolated. Only his businesses keep him anchored to this world…that and meddling in the lives of a certain pack of werewolves.

Then there is the fact that he’s so much more powerful than any human could ever be. It would be so easy for him to become a monster, which is something he fights against. He needs blood to survive, but prefers to use blood banks instead of human donors. He no longer trusts himself not to take too much. There is such fascination and allure surrounding all vampires, but Damek even more so. Even though he’d deny it, he’s a dark, tormented soul, but he’s definitely hero material.

I tried to ignore him, really I did, but it was no use. Damek kept demanding his story be told. But I knew if I were to give him his own book, he’d need a heroine who would challenge him and keep him on his toes, one who could break down the walls surrounding his heart. After all, he’s been alive a long, long time, amassed incredible power and isn’t used to anyone challenging him…that is until he meets Sonia.

Okay, so as much as I want to blame everything on Damek, I can’t. I fell in love with him from the very first time he appeared on the page. Shhh, don’t tell him that. He already has a healthy ego without adding to it. And it wasn’t just me who fell in love with him. Readers did too. Many of them wrote and kept asking about Damek until I felt compelled to write about him.

Damek's Redemption

Legacy, Book 6

Myths and legends are more than just passing interests for Sonia Agostino. She holds degrees in folklore and anthropology, and she comes from a family of Keepers, humans charged with helping paranormal creatures survive in the modern world.

Recently, her research—and her intuition—have led her to Chicago’s Inhibitions nightclub. Its enigmatic owner, known only as Damek, could be the one paranormal creature she has never seen. A vampire. Except he won’t see her.

Damek has good reason to refuse an audience with Sonia. One look at her and his gut reaction is she’s a serious threat to the simple, highly disciplined routine that keeps his bloodlust in check. Worse, she has unwittingly led vampire hunters far too close for comfort.

Yet when she stubbornly shows up at the nightclub a second time, he cannot refuse her. The force of their attraction explodes with erotic power—and danger. For when Sonia discovers that her suspicions were true, she finds her loyalties unexpectedly tested. And her choice will forever change both their lives.

Damek’s book is available in eBook at all major online outlets, but it’s also now available in print!

Be sure to leave a comment. Tell me which you like better vampires or werewolves. I’m giving away a PRINT COPY OF DAMEK’S REDEMPTION to one lucky reader who comments. (Contest open to readers in USA and Canada only.)

N.J. has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.

(Bonnie Capuano 6:02am September 9, 2013)

I like vampires better
(Sandy Giden 9:27am September 9, 2013)

I have to say vampires if I can only choose one. They are sexy!
(May Pau 10:42am September 9, 2013)

I can't give an opinion either way, since this isn't my normal genre of reading material. The way you described your book, however, has me intrigued, and I'm anxious to read it and get my feet wet in this genre, so to speak. I thought the cover was very well done, too!! Congratulations on your latest book. I'm sure that it will do well, since vampires seem to be the latest rage!!
(Peggy Roberson 11:25am September 9, 2013)

I'm a huge fan of the paranormal too, Denise and Bonnie.

Thanks for dropping by and commenting, Sandy and May. I'm caught between vampires and werewolves, although these days I seem to be writing more werewolf stories

Thank you, Peggy. I love the cover for this book!
(N.J. Walters 11:54am September 9, 2013)

I can't get enough of this genre of books. I've never read
any books by you. I've added you to my reading list. This
sounds like a great series! Thanks.
(Lucy Pinto 12:46pm September 9, 2013)

I love paranormals... enjoy both vampires and werewolves, but will admit that the wolves edge out a bit more for me.
(Colleen Conklin 1:11pm September 9, 2013)

I enjoy both vampires and werewolves. I'm anxious to read your book. Thanks for your giveaway and love the cover!
(Shirley Sego 1:20pm September 9, 2013)

I have read many of your books & am always very happy with them. You manage to give werewolfs & vampires alike a very vivid personality
(Lisa Loyd 1:37pm September 9, 2013)

I must say for a very long time I have said that I like werewolves better. Lately however there have been some vampires who have been changing my mind. I think your Damek may be another of those. You have me hooked. My reading addiction thanks you! :)
(Patti Paonessa 2:27pm September 9, 2013)

Thanks for adding my books to your reading list, Lucy. :)

I love both too, Colleen, but lately werewolves have been winning for me too.

Thank you, Shirley. I absolutely love this cover!

Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment, Lisa. It means a lot to me.

lol I'm glad your reading addiction thanks me, Patti. I've been writing more werewolves, but Damek was one vampire who wouldn't rest until I'd written his book. :)
(N.J. Walters 5:12pm September 9, 2013)

It's a hard choice since I enjoy reading about both paranormal creatures, but I guess it's vampires for me!
(Monica Vargo 5:41pm September 9, 2013)

I enjoy reading both vampires and werewolves. I lean just a bit more toward werewolves, because I've read a few really good werewolf books. I haven't read any of yours yet, but I plan to (only because I hadn't run across your books or heard of you before today). That's why it's so great to find new authors at Fresh Fiction!
(Linda Luinstra 6:01pm September 9, 2013)

For me it's vampires. The reason being while male vamps are alpha type heroes, werewolves have an even bigger alpha mentality to the point you really want to kick the guy for his arrogance.
(Kat Holmes 6:14pm September 9, 2013)

I like both vampires and werewolves, but, if I have to choose, I'll have to go
with vampires. I find them so appealing. Damek's Redemption sounds like
my kind of book. The cover is beautiful, too! Congratulations on the book
and thanks for the chance to win!!!
(Linda Brennan 7:27pm September 9, 2013)

I enjoy both vampire and werewolf books -if I had to choose, the werewolf wins.
(Mary C 7:32pm September 9, 2013)

Choices ... werewolf or vampire ... oh my! A hunky take charge wolf or a hunky take charge vamp. You ask a hard question but I think it depends on the storyline. But ... if they look like your cover I have to go for him! LOL!!
(Annetta Sweetko 8:17pm September 9, 2013)

I lean more towards werewolves. I'm not sure why. Sounds like a cool read.
(Laura Gullickson 8:58pm September 9, 2013)

Vampires are my favorite supernatural hero.
(Janie McGaugh 10:06pm September 9, 2013)

I think if I had to pick, I'd go for the werewolf... after all, I am a "Team Jacob" fan. :)
(Donna Holmberg 10:51pm September 9, 2013)

Wow, Congrats on your new book: DAMEK'S REDEMPTION. I have
always been fascinated by Vampires and Werewolves. Vampires
are dark, sexy and mysterious but it is sad they cannot come
out in the sunshine. Werewolves are lucky because they tend
to run in packs and can hunt day and night. I like the
Werewolves because we have 4 dogs; Chawinnies;
Chihuahua/Dachsunds that are a lot of fun to watch playing
and interacting with us and each other. We all have a dog
gone good time. Hee Hee! Vamps are cool too! I would love to
win and read your book this Fall. Thank You very much.
