Katie Reus | Do You Love Paranormal Romance? Share Your Thoughts to Win ALPHA INSTINCT

Thank you so much to the folks at Fresh Fiction for letting me blog here today.

I love paranormal romance because it's such a great escape from the real world. Not only is it prevalent in romantic fiction, but paranormal elements seem to be infiltrating television too (or maybe it's just the shows I watch: Supernatural, True Blood, Once Upon a Time, Fringe, Grimm, Ghost Hunters...and many more). For me that's a great thing! Well, maybe bad too because now that I've discovered so many great new shows it gives me an excuse to not work when I should be.

Currently I write paranormal romance for Signet Eclipse and Harlequin Nocturne (Cravings). ALPHA INSTINCT (which is releasing in less than a week!) is the first book in my new Moon Shifter series from Signet and I had a lot of fun creating this paranormal world. In the Moon Shifter world shifters and vampires made a unified decision to reveal themselves to humans a couple decades ago (and other paranormal beings just had to get on board). There were a multitude of reasons for their decision, advancement in technology being a big one.

The first five years after shifters came out of hiding were tense, but humans fought each other enough and there was never that bloodshed that many had expected. It probably didn't hurt that so many shifters had at one time worn a military uniform in the first two world wars. So governments ‘accepted' paranormal beings. (As if shifters, vampires and faeries hadn't been around just as long as humans!). I love that since humans are aware of their existence, shifters and vamps are always under a microscope. It has added a lot of conflict and made writing this series so much fun.

What do you love about paranormal romance? One reader who comments on the blog today will be randomly selected to win a print copy of ALPHA INSTINCT (US eligible only). Good luck and thanks for stopping by!

ALPHA INSTINCT official blurb:

Fear has a scent. So does desire...

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it's almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.

The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor's future, but the lives of the entire pack...

A little about me: I've been reading romance from a young age—ever since I discovered my mom's hidden stash. Luckily the addiction stayed with me into adulthood. I write paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense for Carina Press, Harlequin Nocturne, and NAL/Signet Eclipse. Thanks again for having me here today!

Paranormal romance is just so exotic. It brings a new aspect to romance that can
work as a hindrance or as a boost to be explored. I just love paranormal
romance because of the men are so alpha, and who doesn't love a sexy alpha
male? ;)
(Hyunjin Jeon 2:01am February 2, 2012)

Paranormal romance is my favorite, I have always loved getting to read about shifters, vampires and all the paranormal beings the best!
(Natasha Donohoo 2:07am February 2, 2012)

I love paranormal romance for lots of reasons but I think the biggest is that like
many people, I can relate to feeling like an outsider. Magical and paranormal
reasons make that feeling turn into something fun!lol Plus, the heroes are sexy
alphas (like vamps & weres) with a hint of vulnerability that only the heroine and
reader gets to see:)

I have long loved paranormal romance what with possible magic, extra powers, shifting, edgy alpha heroes. Hard not to find all of that appealing.
(G. Bisbjerg 2:58am February 2, 2012)

Paranormal romance is a great genre for many reasons but I think the main reason I enjoy it is because of the fact that it allows its readers to escape from reality into a world filled with unique and interesting characters that we would not normally find in our daily lives.
(Chelsea Knestrick 5:57am February 2, 2012)

Paranormal romance just could have a bit of reality embedded in it. What fun!
(Marjorie Carmony 6:11am February 2, 2012)

Alpha Instinct sounds like it will be a very good book to read. I love to read paranormal romance. I enjoy reading fantasy books. Thanks for posting this blog contest and the opportunity to win.
(David Christian 7:41am February 2, 2012)

I enjoy a good paranormal story because it is a great way to immerse
yourself in a complete fantasy world, away from the everyday humdrum
and life's difficulties. I like how most paranormals also combine romance
and mystery along with the fantasy aspects, making them interesting to
read. I also like how the heroes are typically alpha males, and most
female characters are tough and so unlike some of the "simpering
weaklings" you occasionally find in other types of romances. The best
books for me combine both UF and paranormal, with a bit of romance.
This new series sounds very interesting- thanks for the chance to win!
(Debbie Burdeen 8:00am February 2, 2012)

I like paranormal romance because it usually adds an extra layer to the story. It makes the story different and that is necessary for the romance genre because otherwise it gets really dull.
(Pam Howell 9:13am February 2, 2012)

I love the way that the paranormal aspects are dealt with in paranormal romance. Every author does it in such a different way that I love reading them to find out what they did.
(Mattie King 9:19am February 2, 2012)

I adore paranormal romance. I like that the characters don't have to follow the normal rules that apply to a contemporary romance. The heroes can be uber Alpha without being considered jerks. I love shifters especially.
(Stacie Deramo 9:30am February 2, 2012)

I love how creative the author can be with the worldbuilding. I'm especially fond of shifter stories.
(Dawn Owens 10:02am February 2, 2012)

this sounds like a thrilling read
(Debbi Shaw 10:06am February 2, 2012)

I love the super powers and the exotic world of the characters... :) Your book sounds terrific!
(May Pau 10:15am February 2, 2012)

I love that whatever you can imagine in the story can become a reality. I'm sold.
(Cheryl English 10:42am February 2, 2012)

The intrigue, the possible forbidden, as of a
curtain was raised to reveal a world that was just
beyond a veil
(Carla Carlson 10:45am February 2, 2012)

Thanks for a great post and giveaway! I love PNR b/c the sky's
the limit as to what can/will happen. Everything can be made
new again and magic normal :) It also seems that the romances
are hotter b/c the stakes are higher, the danger more
involved. Congrats on the new release!
(Erin Fender 11:12am February 2, 2012)

Paranormals give you a freedom from having to follow the rules of reality dating. Having a mystical mating instinct cuts a lot of time out of the getting together equation. I know a lot of women like those kick butt girls of paranormals but I like women who don't kill things. Can't we just all get along? For example: I watched Lost Girl; she fought someone and killed them just because they told her to. I miss the original Star Trek peacenik-era of "I'm not going to kill someone for your entertainment" (shritless!). (I don't miss the PC-era of Star Trek: TNG so much.)
(Lisa Elwood 11:19am February 2, 2012)

I don't usually read paranormal books, but this one sounds really exciting. I'd love to win it.
(Wilma Frana 11:38am February 2, 2012)

I love Paranormal romance! It's so exciting and takes me away from the normal everyday worries to a totally different world
(Rhonda Dennis 11:53am February 2, 2012)

I love paranormal romance, because the unexpected can happen. These people have special gifts and abilities and is interesting to see how they use them. Grimm is one of my tv show favorites too.
(Christina Vanderford 12:02pm February 2, 2012)

I love the mystique of paranormals... the many interesting characters... seeing things outside of the norm!
(Colleen Conklin 12:06pm February 2, 2012)

I've started to read paranormal romance and my goal for 2012
is to read more of it. There are certainly a lot of
variations in the genre!
(Diane Sallans 12:45pm February 2, 2012)

I read paranormal romances more than any other genre, and love the imaginative world building, and the memorable characters. Shifter stories are my absolute favorite paranormal reads. Something about the animal characteristic blended with human wants and needs is just fascinating.
(Cathy MacDonald 2:01pm February 2, 2012)

(Linda Bass 2:58pm February 2, 2012)

Alpha Instinct sounds intriguing. Hope I win.
(Sylvia Leaver 4:05pm February 2, 2012)

I love reading paranormal romance more than any other genre. It lets me escape the real world for a little bit. I too watch True Blood, etc. Your book sounds great. Thansk for the chance to win.
(Tabitha Monroe 4:15pm February 2, 2012)

OMG i think its my FAV genre .. i find it really hard now to
go back to human/human romances
something about paranormal guys (be it a vampire, were ,
shapeshifter or other mythical being) that are extra spicey
and Hotter than reg human men and make the book HOTTER .. i
also love the highlander men :D soo Hot~!~
(Rachael Kennedy 4:27pm February 2, 2012)

i love books that are different
(Ann Unger 4:44pm February 2, 2012)

Paranormal is my bread & butter! I enjoyed reading the excerpt! :)
(Veronica Jarvis 4:56pm February 2, 2012)

I LOVE PARANORMAL ROMANCE because it allows me to escape into a world filled with the unusual and different characters from the supernatural, ghosts, shapeshifters, alpha heroes, vampires, werewolves, fantasy and magic; combined with the romance which gives an intriguing, escape reality story. I enjoyed your excerpt today!
(Linda Luinstra 5:26pm February 2, 2012)

I am also a fan of Once Upon a Time, what a great show. It is nice to see tv
moving into this genre more. I have always been a paranormal book addict, nice
to know there are so many of us out there! Your book sounds good, love
(Lexi Hansen 6:13pm February 2, 2012)

Enjoy the imaginative world of paranormal romance where anything awaits from the norm and gives the edge and excitement to every story, and the escape from reality! Love books that are different and entertain the mind!
(Rich Cook 6:31pm February 2, 2012)

Thanks so much everyone who has stopped by and commented today! I've enjoyed reading all the different answers :)
(Katie Reus 6:50pm February 2, 2012)

I really don't have a pat answer to your question, because I haven't read any paranormal romance stories yet. The romance stories that I've read are the old-fashioned stories or just the normal, everyday type. I've sort of gotten back to reading after having to spend a bit of a hiatus from it due to personal reasons, so now I have to familiarize myself with all of the other books out there. A few of the Paranormal stories have seemed a bit over the top, but I would love to give your book a try.
(Peggy Roberson 9:47pm February 2, 2012)

I like the idea of paranormals as long as there are no vamps involved.
(Molly Wilsbacher 9:48pm February 2, 2012)

I love paranormals because there is so much imagination involved and there are such an easy escape to a whole new dimension.
Good luck and happy writing!
(Tracie Travis 10:28pm February 2, 2012)

I love romances of all types - they provide an escape form the daily routine.
(Mary Chin 10:30pm February 2, 2012)

Congrats on your new release next week!

I like paranormal romance for the escapism it provides into a different world in terms of what beings may exist. I also like the danger these beings provide.
(Anne Muller 10:31pm February 2, 2012)

I like paranormal because of the romance behind the species of the characters.
(Lisa Kendall 10:48pm February 2, 2012)

i love read paranormal and i cant get enough!! i started when i was little and would watch the old werewolf movies.that when i got hooked!!!
(Jennifer Beck 11:14pm February 2, 2012)

I'm not stalking you, really! I love the amazing breadth of characters possible in paranormal romance. Where else can you have weres, angels, vampires, witches, etc. all having an impact on the world?
(E Felder 1:03am February 3, 2012)

romance is fine and I like readiong about world's that are inhabited by creatures not completely of this world.
(Alyson Widen 6:07pm February 3, 2012)

I like to be surprised and paranormals are so creative and have such varieties to take me to such different worlds.
