Kathleen Fuller | What's in a Name?
September 8, 2015
One of my favorite parts of creating a story is naming my characters. I
absolutely love this
process. Since NEVER
BROKEN (Book One in the Everlasting Faith series) is a family saga set in
Ireland and
Scotland during the mid 19th century, there are numerous characters in the
book.
I thought
it would be fun to find out the meaning of their names.

Some of the meanings suit these characters, some of them don’t. When I
choose a character
name it’s because, in my mind, that name fits the character. What the name
really means
doesn’t have a bearing on my decision, so it’s interesting to discover what
matches and what
doesn’t.
In real life I find that a person’s name is reflective of their personality.
People with
unique names are often unique people, for example.
My name is Irish and it means Pure. :) If you’d like to find out the
origin and meaning of
your name, check out Names.org. Post what you discover in the comments
section. GIVEAWAY

I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, and
currently live
in Geneva, Ohio. I've been married to James for 21 wonderful years (really,
they have been
wonderful!) We have three terrific children, three dogs, and have raised
cattle, pigs, and
chickens at various times over the years. We would have gone into the goat
business, but I
had to draw the line somewhere. I started writing in 2000, and published my
first short
story a year later. Since then I have authored several short stories,
novellas, novels, and
have done a lot of freelance non-fiction work. I have also worked as an
editor. I have a
Masters degree in Special Education, emphasis on teaching the blind and
visually impaired,
and a Bachelors in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. I have taught all
age groups
ranging from age 4 to age 21. A few of my favorite things: my relationship
with Christ,
chocolate (of course!), autumn, a satisfying book, good friends, a sense of
humor, people
who don't take themselves seriously, haunting melodies, NFL football, and
did I mention
chocolate?

Rory O'Leary has little use for his uncle and aunt's stately Irish manor,
which has been
his reluctant home since he and his brother were orphaned.
When summoned home for a family wedding, he has a brief, heart-stopping
meeting with Shannon
Cahill, a young peasant woman.
When Rory's uncle passes away, his cousin inherits the estate, cutting off
all funds and
removing Rory and his brother from the only home they know. Rory feels his
best option is to
leave Ireland.
Meanwhile, the Irish potato blight ravishes Shannon and her sister Ainslee's
tiny village.
Her ailing parents insist that Shannon and her sister emigrate to America.
The sisters are
devastated at leaving their home, and Shannon fears she'll never again see
the man who stole
her heart in the rose garden. But God has other plans. When Rory finds the
two sisters
huddled on the squalid docks of County Cork, he leads them all to
Scotland...and an
adventure they never expected.

Re: Kathleen Fuller | What's in a Name?
I don't need to be added into the drawing as I've read the book and LOVED it!
I went to the website and looked for the meaning to my name, but they don't have it. A bit too unusual, I guess. Thanks for sharing about names, Kathleen, very interesting! (Miralee Ferrell 4:07pm September 7, 2015)
I read the electronic version but would love to own the paperback book. I found the meaning of the name Ainslee interesting because the street I live on was named after a man named Ainsley. I wonder if that is the female version of Ainslee. The street crosses a hilltop so the person who named it clearly did not know the Scottish meaning, if it is in fact a female version of the name.
