August Highlight Book Of The Month:

REMNANTS OF MURDER: A Southern Sewing Circle Mystery #8
Elizabeth Lynn Casey (Berkley Prime Crime)

REMNANTS OF MURDER

Those sassy sewing ladies of Sweet Briair are up to their usual hijinks again in Elizabeth Lynn Casey's latest Southern Sewing Circle novel, REMNANTS OF MURDER. Librarian Tori Sinclair and her sewing circle buddies once again find that murder has crept into their quiet little town and its up to them to put their needles and thread down and find out who is stitching up a bunch of trouble and causing mayhem.

I absolutely love Elizabeth Lynn Casey's charming series and highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys a well-written, character driven, and definitely cozy mystery.

Here's a little more about the book -

When a cantankerous Sweet Briar resident ends up six feet under, the ladies of the sewing circle have to deal with a town full of suspects. With the library's budget dwindling, Tori Sinclair is forced to let go of her predecessor, and fellow sewing circle member, Dixie Dunn. After losing her job a second time, Dixie decides to volunteer for Home Fare, delivering meals to the homebound.

Less than a week after Dixie starts, her client Clyde Montgomery is found dead. The police think he died of old age, but with most of the town badgering Clyde to sell his picturesque land, his passing seems a little too convenient. Determined to prove that Clyde was murdered, Dixie asks Tori for some sleuthing assistance. But with so many Sweet Briar residents in possession of a compelling motive, the sewing circle ladies will have to needle out the truth to find the killer.

August Debut Book of The Month:
CLOCHE AND DAGGER: A Hat Shop Mystery #1

CLOCHE AND DAGGER

This promise to be a fun series. With hat fashion being all the rage since the Duchess of Cambridge and her royal family has made it so chic, what better place to set a new series about a hat shop but in London! Jenn McKinaly is one of my favorite cozy authors and I'm delighted to see this new series from her!

Here's more about the book -

Not only is Scarlett Parker's love life in the loo—as her British cousin Vivian Tremont would say—it's also gone viral with an embarrassing video. So when Viv suggests Scarlett leave Florida to lay low in London, she hops on the next plane across the pond. Viv is the proprietor of Mims's Whims, a ladies' hat shop on Portobello Road bequeathed to both cousins by their beloved grandmother, and she wants Scarlett to finally join her in the millinery business.

But a few surprises await Scarlett in London. First, she is met at the airport not by Viv, but by her handsome business manager, Harrison Wentworth. Second, Viv—who has some whims of her own—seems to be missing. No one is too concerned about the unpredictable Viv until one of her posh clients is found dead wearing the cloche hat Viv made for her—and nothing else. Is Scarlett's cousin in trouble? Or is she in hiding?

HEIRS AND GRACES: A Royal Spyness Mystery #7
Rhys Bowen (Berkley Prime Crime)

HEIRS AND GRACES HEIRS AND GRACES
HEIRS AND GRACES
HEIRS AND GRACES

As thirty-fifth in line for the throne, Lady Georgiana Rannoch may not be the most sophisticated young woman, but she knows her table manners. Its forks on the left, knives on the right—not in His Majesty's back.

Here I am thinking the education I received at my posh Swiss finishing school would never come in handy. And while it hasn't landed me a job, or a husband, it has convinced Her Majesty the Queen and the Dowager Duchess to enlist my help. I have been entrusted with grooming Jack Altringham—the Duke's newly discovered heir fresh from the Outback of Australia—for high society.

The upside is I am to live in luxury at one of England's most gorgeous stately homes. But upon arrival at Kingsdowne Place, my dearest Darcy has been sent to fetch Jack, leaving me stuck in a manor full of miscreants - none of whom are too pleased with the discovery of my new ward.

And no sooner has the lad been retrieved than the Duke announces he wants to choose his own heir. With the house in a hubbub over the news, Jack's hunting knife somehow finds its way into the Duke's back. Eyes fall, backs turn, and fingers point to the young heir. As if the rascal wasn't enough of a handful, now he's suspected of murder. Jack may be wild, but I'd bet the crown jewels it wasn't he who killed the Duke.

THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK OF MURDER

Someone's getting crossed off the register.

Nora Blackbird may have been to the manor borne, but these days money is so tight, she can't afford to lose her job as a society columnist. So when her new boss at the Philadelphia Intelligencer—Australian tabloid editor Gus Hardwicke—tells her to work the celebrity gossip beat or start checking the want ads, the choice is easy.

Now Nora's writing a profile on billionaire fashion designer Swain Starr, who recently retired to build a high-tech organic farm with his new wife, Zephyr, a former supermodel. But before Nora can get the story, the mogul is murdered. And now Gus wants her to snap up an exclusive on who killed Starr before the cops do. But solving a celebrity murder isn't easy with a home life as colorful as Nora's. Her sort-of-husband, Mick, a former mobster, is associating once again with unsavory characters. Her sister Libby is on a mission to get her diabolical twins on stage or screen with the help of an unscrupulous former child star. And the youngest Blackbird sister, Emma, just got kicked out of the house by Mick—who refuses to explain why.

If anything can bring the blue-blooded Blackbird sisters together, it's a murder investigation involving high-society events, glamorous people, and the disappearance of a genetically perfect pig that may or may not be basking in the sun at Blackbird Farm. They'll all have to pull together this time, because if Nora can't bring home the bacon, she might have to exchange her bucolic estate for a cramped walk-up.
