I have a friend who lives right outside Detroit...It has a lot going for it but just as much or more against it. Hope it successfully comes back.
It is an excellent setting for UF though...really apropos.

I have family living in Michigan and not far from Detroit. Their concerns for it have of course been how the economy has given it such a hard knock. Bu they also love the Zoo there and the Henry Ford Museum.

Growing up in Detroit, I couldn't think of a better backdrop!! You'll have to consider writing a book about werewolves in Eloise! I think it would be perfect!! I know a lot of the kids like to go through the tunnels there and some of the old buildings before they were demolished. I don't know if the tunnels still exist, but there is plenty of history there. Our city reeks, if you pardon the expression, of history, so it's not a stretch for werewolves and other characters to co-exist with humans throughout the metropolitan area. It's quite a diverse culture. Congratulations on your new book!!

As a kid spending lots of time on Belle Isle, I can imagine the paranormal happening there. I believe that was a hot bed for rum-running during prohibition. Imagine the stories those building could tell.

When you think of it, the "rust belt" traits you listed do lend themselves to the
urban fantasy genre. With the influx of paranormal inhabitants, both good and
bad, a revival could be instigated and supported. Sounds like a good series.

My first reaction to Detroit as an urban fantasy romance setting was extreme skepticism, but after reading your defense of it above, I am forced to admit that you've opened my mind, if not quite made a believer of me,...

I love that you took somewhere we think of as regular and maybe "dirty old car town" and gave it such a different twist! Great imagination (real or fiction)! We all get hung up in our stereo-typing and its good to have our 'eyes' opened!
