Karen Kendall | SECRETS, SEX and SO LONG: The SEQUEL to Take Me If You Can

I love the name Fresh Fiction and think it’s a truly inspired marketing choice. So isn’t it funny that often, the book that’s being released to readers (in my case, TAKE ME TWO TIMES--sequel to TAKE ME IF YOU CAN)--is not the one that’s fresh in an author’s mind because we work so far ahead.

You see, I’m currently struggling with the revisions on the, uh, threequel, which is called TAKE ME FOR A RIDE and will be out in November.

So when people ask me what TAKE ME TWO TIMES is about, sometimes I begin telling them about the wrong set of characters. Forgive me!

The TAKE ME series is about an international agency that recovers stolen art.

And TAKE ME TWO TIMES is the story of Gwen Davies, the one-time debutante who’s a rookie in the art recovery biz.

Gwen may look sweet and proper, but she can kill a man with a spike heel . . . and she’s got some skeletons in her past who are about to pop out and shake, rattle n’ roll. Our Gwennie once spent a secret, steamy summer down south in Brazil. And she got a little too bad with bad boy Quinn Lawson—though in her defense, he really was irresistible. All that tough muscle, dark-blond hair, five o’clock shadow and talented hands. His mouth left a brand on her.

TAKE ME
IF YOU CAN

Now, fifteen years later, he’s her client. Surprise! And the cursed, solid gold Venetian mask she recovers for him is not quite what it seems. The Borgias commissioned the original, but who forged this one—and where is the real mask?

TAKE ME TWO TIMES is a high stakes adventure, but also a reunion story full of bittersweet memories and reignited passion. I hope you’ll enjoy it! Several of the characters from TAKE ME IF YOU CAN are back, by the way. Avy and Liam are up to something in Europe and Sheila’s still just as insubordinate and entertaining as ever.

I’ve climbed a steep learning curve as I’ve left romantic comedy and entered the realm of romantic suspense. It’s been challenging, but completely rewarding and a lot of fun!

Feel free to ask me any questions about the journey—or pretty much anything else. I’ll be giving away a copy of TAKE ME FOR A RIDE to a lucky commenter.

I like your web site and enjoyed reading a little more about Take Me For A Ride. Sid Thresher also sounded interesting. Enjoy the RT Conference.

Love Karen Kendall....have read all of her books and waiting for more!

This sounds like a great read. Do you worry about getting your characters mixed up when you write since you mention you sometimes do when you're talking about them?

Loved Gwen! One of my all time favorite heroines! Everyone needs to get this book!
See you later this week!

I am looking forward to reading "Take Me Two Times". It must be difficult as an author to be working on one book while having to do revisions on a book that has already been submitted to a publisher.

Forgeries in the news fascinate me along with stories of questionable fakery vs reality in the art world. Passion and belief combine to yield heated debates and modern tech ways designed to reveal the truth. Count me as a lover of art and a collector with big eyes.

I love Romantic Suspense! Do you keep a chart of your characters?

Hi Karen. Sounds like a great book. :)

I really enjoyed Take Me If You Can, great storyline, and I am looking forward to reading this next story.

This sound like a fantastic read! I can't see how authors keep everything straight with want they go through to get their books published.

I too totally enjoyed Take Me If You Can, and anxiously awaited the sequel. I recently downloaded it to my kindle, and now you tell me
there's another coming. Now the decision is to wait and read both together or to read this one and then be mad I didn't wait? Decisions
Decisions Decisions!

Hi, everyone! Thanks for the very nice comments. Sorry I'm chiming in so late but I was on the road to the Romantic Times conference in Orlando today, where I taught at the Aspiring Authors workshop.

I'm happy to say that it went very well--we had a great time with my workshop, From Idea to Novel.

So, to answer some of your questions: no, I don't keep character charts. I'm one of those dinosaurs who does it the old-fashioned way, by re-reading and memory . Though I've already caught one small mistake . . . we'll see if you catch it when TAKE ME FOR A RIDE comes out in November! LOL.

Sometimes I really do have to stop and think; remember everyone's characteristics and goals. But mostly it's a joy to create a series like this one. It draws on my art background and has challenged me to do a lot of research into the world of art crime, which fascinates me.

Glad to see an art lover out there! But of course it's not necessary to love art or know anything about it in order to enjoy these TAKE ME books--they're all about the chase and the "license to steal" that my art recovery agents have. They're walking a tightrope between legal methods and illegal methods ... which keeps things interesting!

Feel free to ask me any other questions--I'll check in again in the morning. Thanks for your support.

Wishing you all a wonderful spring full of great books! Best, Karen Kendall

Hi Karen! Awesome on the sequel! I love to re-visit characters and neat to see updates on the characters from the previous books, like saying Hi, you know? Sounds so good!
