Marie Harte | A Fan of Series Romance
November 4, 2014
I am a huge fan of series romance. Not the kind where one pair of characters
star in several books (known as a serial—though that’s a fine concept). I like
books about people connected by something—family, a job, a situation—and in each
new book, a new couple explores life and love together. I’ve talked to many readers who refuse to read a series until it’s complete.
Having been burned before by authors who don’t finish a series, producers that
leave a television show hanging, and movie franchises that won’t continue a
series if movie number one doesn’t make enough money, I feel their pain. I’m
also guilty of being laggy on finishing a series of my own. Ahem. But
that’s another story. The McCauley Brothers series is complete and coming to a close. It seems like
just yesterday THE
TROUBLEMAKER NEXT DOOR released. (Actually, the book came out this past
June.) And already book four, WHAT TO DO WITH A BAD
BOY is nearly here—November 4th. My birthday! A fitting end
for my McCauleys, who finally found love with all the right women. What makes the McCauleys different for me is that this is a contemporary series.
I’ve written shapeshifters, aliens, witches and vampires. But dealing with
normal people with normal lives was challenging. There are a ton of fun tropes
out there, but you won’t find any virgins, billionaires, or perfect people in
this series. They’re all flawed, all vulnerable, and all very real. And okay, I
cheated a bit and made a family of four hunky brothers. Sue me. I like a bit of
hunk in my heroes. *grin* Now, for a little fun, I thought I’d share some of my favorite romance
series—as a reader. Note, not all these are contemporary and in no particular order: ~Nora Roberts’ Three Sisters Island trilogy ~Shelli Stevens The McLaughlins series ~Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series ~Jayne Ann Krentz’s Eclipse Bay trilogy ~Denise Rossetti’s Four-Sided Pentacles series ~Shelly Laurenston’s Magnus Pack trilogy ~Morgan Hawke’s Interstellar Service & Discipline series I’ve only listed a few series, and I know I’m missing a ton. What are some of
your favorite series and why? Help a fellow reader out to learn where I can go
next for a good read. And as some incentive, one random commenter will win their choice of any of
my backlist in electronic format. Happy reading! Marie follow me on twitter @MHarte_Author NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author WHAT IS WITH MIKE McCAULEY? Every time Delilah Webster runs into Mike McCauley, he practically bites her
