Rhonda Shaw | Most Exciting Play in Baseball

On April 14, Carina Press is publishing six brand-new sports romances. Today weโ€™re featuring, THE ACE, by Rhonda Shaw, and talking about what is the most exciting play in baseball.

What is the most exciting play in baseball? A walk-off, which snatches a last
minute win from the jaws of defeat? The sky-reaching, glorious grand slam home
run that clears the bases and instantly adds four runs to the board? The nail-
biting suicide squeeze, where a runner takes off from third base before the
pitch and is at the mercy of the hitter making contact at home plate?

Maybe you prefer the crowd-deafening cheers when a pitcher throws a perfect game
or perhaps the stunning catch by an outfielder at the precise moment the ball is
cresting over the outfield wall. While all of the above are definitely exciting
plays, one in particular stands out, the unassisted triple play.

A triple play is not commonplace, even though most major leaguers can pull them off, but more so because the stage needs to be perfectly set in order for the play to succeed. The unassisted triple play, however, where one defensive player gets all three outs himself, is arguably the rarest event in baseball. Its occurrence is so scarce, only happening fifteen times in one hundred and fifty years of baseball. Only fifteen!

What do you think is the most exciting play in baseball? If not baseball,
another sport?

Leave a comment stating what you think is the most exciting play in any sport for a chance to win an ebook copy of THE ACE!

About THE ACE, Book two of Men of the Show

โ€œLove โ€™em and leave โ€™emโ€ has been real estate agent Karen Bentlyโ€™s motto for as
long as she can remember. She doesnโ€™t need a man, except to make her toes curl.
Or so she thought, until her longtime crush, Ace pitcher Jerry Smutton, sets his
sights on her.

After signing one of the largest baseball contracts in history with the Detroit
Rockets, Jerry enlists Karen to help him find the house of his dreams. Their
connection is instant and electric, but neither of them is the relationship
type. When Jerry proposes a friends-with-benefits arrangement, that suits Karen
just fine.

Passionate sleepovers soon turn into long, romantic eveningsโ€ฆ Still, Karen and
Jerry refuse to acknowledge theyโ€™re a couple. Karen insists that sheโ€™s immune to
Jerryโ€™s heart-melting charm. Jerryโ€™s not ready to settle down. Denial is the
name of the game, until one pitch changes everything

Meet Jerryโ€™s teammate Chase Patton in THE CHANGEUP!

Excerpt of THE ACE

Jerry pulled into a small parking lot that sat next to a dark brick, nondescript building and shut off his car. Since there was no sign or any markings on the squat structure, Karen thought that she could have easily passed it on a daily basis without ever noticing it. Cars packed the lot, however, so it was obviously popular.
โ€œIs this some private gang hangout or something?โ€ she asked.
He gave her a look that said she was out of her mind to question where they were. โ€œWhat? This is Hanniganโ€™s.โ€
โ€œHanniganโ€™s,โ€ she repeated and looked out the window, searching for anything that might help her recall if sheโ€™d ever heard of the place. Heโ€™d said it like everyone knew what Hanniganโ€™s was. โ€œAnd I should know what that is?โ€
He looked at her in shock and sat back in his seat, which was already reclined as far as it could go to accommodate his long legs inside the small confines of his Porsche. โ€œHow do you live and work in Royal Oak and not know Hanniganโ€™s?โ€
โ€œI donโ€™t know Hanniganโ€™s, so sue me or something.โ€ A thought suddenly occurred to her and Karen turned back to him. โ€œIs this a boob joint?โ€
He laughed as he opened his door and climbed out. โ€œLetโ€™s go. Make sure you bring your singles.โ€

Re: Rhonda Shaw | Most Exciting Play in Baseball

The most exciting play of any sport is the last minute game changer. (At least, I assume from the yelling that goes on in the other room. Somehow the yelling at the TV will HELP THEM WIN!)
(Laura Gullickson 1:13am April 11, 2014)

Ha! Laura, too funny. It's the same in our house...except
somehow the yelling will MAKE THE REFEREE CHANGE HIS MIND!
(Kat Latham 7:14am April 11, 2014)

I love the first comment, so true. In my house we're rugby fans and it's usually a last minute try or drop goal that's the best.
(Jen Barnard 8:55am April 11, 2014)

we are baseball fans in our house we love the pirates phillies
NYY we get all excited when we watch the games on tv
(Denise Smith 9:21am April 11, 2014)

I love an infield hit. They are exciting, fast and hard to get unless there is an error on a fielder. I also love when players steal home on a bunt!
(Sue Galuska 9:43am April 11, 2014)

Sounds like a great baseball story!
(Richard Proctor 10:58am April 11, 2014)

I've just gotten into baseball recently. This story sounds
fantastic!
(Maria Proctor 11:08am April 11, 2014)

Baseball is my favorite sport. Go Mariners!
(Denise Austin 11:24am April 11, 2014)

Hmmm, for me it is seeing the battle to the finish line in NASCAR.
(Colleen Conklin 1:02pm April 11, 2014)

this sounds good.
(Tina Lechuga 1:09pm April 11, 2014)

These are all great! Keep them coming! It sounds like the same yelling and screaming that happens in my house occurs in others! :)
(Rhonda Shaw 2:35pm April 11, 2014)

I'm an ice hockey fan, so for me it's the impossible goal or
save. All the more so if it happens in the first or last(!)
few seconds of a period. And the last few seconds of a game?
Holy moly!

As for the yelling at the TV, LOL, I used to wonder why
anyone did that. Then I became a hockey fan and found myself
doing it. Yelling at the refs, yelling at the players
("shoot the puck!"), and all the while laughing at myself
because I KNOW IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE, but I do it
anyway. Gotta love the irrational mind of the sports fan. :D
(Jess Candela 3:36pm April 11, 2014)

I am not a baseball person really but the un-assisted triple
play does sound too good to be true maybe that is why it has
only happened 15 times.. Me, I am more football, hockey or
basketball.. and there are so many plays... But Yelling at
the TV when you have no voice and your kids and mom send it
to AFV that is something..
(Tina Ullrich 11:41pm April 11, 2014)

I love the base steal. I always hold my breath to see if they make it or not.
(Cindy Olp 11:43pm April 11, 2014)

I love it when the game is close, and the other team steals the ball and wins (except for when it is my teams -- Lol!)
(Cathy Phillips 7:27am April 12, 2014)

I've only been to one baseball game in Jacksonville, FL. Love it when the score is tied and the tension builds. Thanks for the giveaway.
(Kathleen Beale 11:22am April 12, 2014)

some crazy spectacular catch, or the walk-off homerun or closer striking out the last batter in the World Series or the heartbreaking near-homerun in a crucial game - I love baseball! GO SOX!!! (and all of the above added to the magic rituals we've been keeping at home - doesn't everyone do them???)
(Beth Fuller 3:03pm April 12, 2014)

The bottom of the ninth, score tied, 2 out, 3-2 pitch.
(Sue Farrell 3:45pm April 12, 2014)

A grand slam homer with bases loaded.
(Marcy Shuler 6:06pm April 12, 2014)

when my team scores the go-ahead points......
(Barbara Studer 6:31pm April 12, 2014)

The greatest play was the 1984 Olympic where the US Hockey team was going up against the Russia for the gold medal. This is hockey at its finest.
(Kai Wong 6:54pm April 12, 2014)

It's those moments when you know something quite special is
about to happen or has just happened.
(Mary Preston 5:39am April 13, 2014)

Our team is playing right now - 1-1. I love to see players steal basas.
(Maureen Glynn 5:44pm April 13, 2014)

The most exciting play of the game is when you are there in
person to see it... It doesn't matter too much what it is as
long as it is a game changer - hopefully in your team's favor
-- and you have good seats!
