SANDI SHILHANEK | Vacation Books....What To Take and How Many?

Before I begin today’s blog I have to say, I almost feel like a real author.
Rarely do I get to do a weekday blog. Next thing I know inspiration will really
hit, and I’ll be typing my novel and submitting it, and screaming with shock
when it gets accepted for publication.

Now, for the real topic of today’s blog....VACATION! I’m sure everyone is
planning some sort of vacation whether it is something exotic and far away, or
something that just takes you away from work, but not from home. Regardless of
the vacation plans books are an essential part of the packing...we know there’s
always a down time when you need a book to kill time, and that brings us to the
very important question of how many books, and which ones?

I’m personally planning to be gone in July, and books I’m anticipating to take
with me include; The Search by Nora Roberts, McKettricks of Texas: Austin by Linda Lael Miller, and Crush on You by Christie Ridgway. This is provided that the books in my tbr already don’t scream too loudly to go with me, and they just might. I’ve really wanted to read Savor The Moment by Nora Roberts, On The Steamy Side by Louisa Edwards, and Blue Skies by Robyn Carr. Two of these books are continuations of series, and the third is by Robyn Carr whom as you probably know is my one of my new favorite authors, and I’m really wanting to read her backlist, but also wanting to hoard that list, so that I always have something to read by her.

How many books are you planning on attempting on your vacation? What books are
you either looking forward to right before your vacation, or hoarding to enjoy
on your vacation? Are you going away or staying put? Will you take physical
books, and if so how many? Are you taking an ereader, if so which one?

Until Sunday happy page turning.

A bag of books. Mostly mysteries, some romances, most of the funny, of course. Although I do like a good vampire romance! Or shapeshifter...

No Vacation plans so far... as for books, I tend to read everyday... wide variety of romance genres to enjoy!

I have been picking out my vacation books for some time and I am looking forward to reading them, but since we are driving to Florida I know where the good bookstores are so we stop and I pick up more "must haves". I end up coming back with double (or triple) what I originally started out with. I'm addicted to books.

Being addicted to books is the best kind of addiction, in my opinion!

I don't have any vacation plans, but since I read one or two books daily, that's not a problem.

My TBR pile is mostly romance of various sorts. Since I don't have a special someone right now, I get it vicariously through my books. A lot safer than the bar scene, that's for sure! Except to my pocketbook, of course!!

I'm reading books by some of the Reader N Rita's authors and catching up on some romantic suspense. No matter how long I'm gone, I take at least 2 books when I travel.

I just picked up Haunting Warrior to read on my vacation.
(Robin McKay 7:10pm June 5, 2010)

I take about 2 per week. I always end up scouting around for more though.
(Mary Preston 7:16pm June 5, 2010)

Lynn, I am jealous, one or two books a day! Good for you.

Went to Vegas in April and brought 2 books, didnt get to read much of even one. And romance is my choice.

Packing books for vacation used to be the toughest part of any trip I went on. Luckily, I now have my Kindle so it's simple to prepare- I take my Kindle and whatever I want to read is right there!

I haven't gone on vacation for 4 years now, but when I do, I always take along a few books, depending on what kind of vacation I'm taking. Since I am retired and can rest at home, my preferred vacations are ones in which I see the sights, museums, and countryside. Sometimes I don't get to finish even one book. But I always take along several, usually ones that are easy to put aside and pick up again as needed. I also always have to read at least at bedtime. I have no e-reader because I have too many "real" books.

When we went to Hawaii I took one paranormel, a historial romance and a murder mystery, that way I had all my moods covered. You all ways take one of each of your faves so you are covered

Picking what to take with me when I travel is usually very hard as I only have print books and a bunch of ebooks on the laptop(which doesn't travel with me). Hopefully later this year I will be able to squeeze an ereader out of the budget so that the next time I travel I can take the ebooks and just a few print books(my sci-fi ones).

I remember my mother-in-law taking bags of books on vacation & I'd just chuckle. Well, I've become my mother-in-law! A book can take you anywhere, anytime, whenever! I'm a little behind in my TBR stack, so I try to play catch up. I've been reading Rhys Bowen's Molly Murphy mystery series, a friend recommended Crocodile On A Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters, I have a Lynn Kurland to enjoy, a couple of anthologies (I love them because I can still do vacation things & not lose my train of thought 'cause the stories are short)!! I'm Like you Sandi, I'll tuck in a Linda Lael Miller to enjoy, also a Mary Balough, a Jo Beverly, Mary Jo Putney..& on & on. Love vacations where ever I take them...out & about or at home. Always with my bag of books!
(Jean Merriott 1:22am June 6, 2010)

It's always a toss-up as to which books to take. Usually I pick the best cover for a mystery or romance.
(Alyson Widen 3:03pm June 6, 2010)

More is always better is my motto; I would rather bring lots of books rather than be without anything to read.
(Diane Sadler 4:10pm June 6, 2010)

I always take a suitcase that
is just for books. Vacation is
when I tend to do marathon
reads of series books. As I
can sit up as late as I want,
I often finish one and start
another before giving up and
going to bed. I always take
twice what I'll read cause not
having enough books is worse
than forgetting your underwear
as far as I'm concerned.
(Lisa Richards 10:51pm June 7, 2010)

Everyone is going to boo and hiss at me but I would just take one or two in case of being kept inside by the weather. I have only had ONE vacation in 35 yrs so I would prefer to site see and visit museums & historical areas.
