Amy J. Fetzer | Jack of all trades...

A master of none? Well not quite. I don’t consider myself a master of anything, even writing novels. Each one is challenge. I’ve written 36 books in about five subgenres of romance; Historical, historical time travel & paranormal, Desires, Intrigues, even a Bombshell, but my favorite to date is my romantic thrillers, Dragon One.

The idea for Dragon One arrived in a hotel room at RWA national with my roommate, Maureen Child and one of those black and white speckled notebooks. Writing about Marines had to wait until my husband retired, otherwise, the Public Affairs Office had to read and approve anything I wrote. Not going to happen. Yet being the daughter, wife and mother of Marines, the advantage of living around predominantly men my entire life is I know them. I’m not saying I’ve figured men out, but I understand how military men will react to the most common events. The rest, I make it up.

It doesn’t hurt to sleep with your source, either. =)

The challenge of writing a series is keeping the characters voice consistent through each story. Even harder were six men, each in different stages of their military careers, and a mix of officers and enlisted. Then to add insult to injury, they’re all former military because they were screwed by the government. Sometimes that’s resolved, and sometimes, its not possible to right every wrong.

Developing the characters for Dragon One, I started with areas of expertise first. Considering what I was planning, the team needed pilots, a medic, an electrician, logistics handler, and an explosives expert. The heroines bring their own talents to the team, often, a talent the guys lack. Aside creating a past for all, I set up rules, team code of ethics, call signs, their equipment list. D-1 doesn’t have safe houses, endless resources, or bottomless funds. That would be too easy and for me, boring. Sometimes they take jobs just for the chopper payment. But you know, one thing I’ve learned from living with Marines all my life is that when faced with a dilemma, they improvise, adapt, and overcome.

Fight Fire With Fire is released May 1st. Its #4 of my Dragon One series and its Riley Donovan’s story. If you haven’t read a Dragon One, that’s okay, each book stands alone. Riley is the flirt of the team, the one man who never hurts for female company. You’ll understand why in Fight Fire With Fire. Between the action and the danger surrounding a weapons designer selling his most macabre creation, Riley is reunited with a woman who saved his life--when he was trying to save Sam Wyatt’s.

Let me introduce you to Safia Troy…. Excerpt

One lucky winner who leaves a comment today will win a copy of Fight Fire With Fire...

(Rhonda Pollero 5:32am May 1, 2009)

Hey Amy, I've read your Historicals and a couple of Silhouette Desires by you and enjoyed them, but I haven't read any of your romantic suspense novels. They sound awesome though, I'll definitely be checking them out!
(Cheryl McInnis 7:07am May 1, 2009)

Hi, I havent read any of your work yet. Hope to soon.

Good luck with your latest book.
(Pat Lieberman 7:10am May 1, 2009)

Thanks all. Cheryl, the historicals? that was a LONG time ago girl. Recently, I've tried to get back to writing one. History is my first love and and I keep pulling more and more bits into my contemporaries. =)
Guess you can't hide from your first love, eh?
(Amy J. Fetzer 8:58am May 1, 2009)

My husband spent 42 years in uniform, so this should be a fun book to read!
(LuAnn Morgan 1:05pm May 1, 2009)

LOL @ "It doesn’t hurt to sleep with your source, either. =)" I love it when humor appears in interviews!
(Faith Bicknell-Brown 1:09pm May 1, 2009)

Hi Amy, I have all your Dragon One series on my keeper shelf and can't wait to start on Fight Fire With Fire.
(Cathy MacDonald 1:12pm May 1, 2009)

So if sleeping with the source is the
key, I need to write an IT hero. Guess I
need to go start research!
(Tami Winbush 1:23pm May 1, 2009)

Mapping out the outline of a book ahead of time keeps the threads of characters alive. I love how you incorporate flexibility and adapting into your stories. I like having a fallback plan, because I use it a lot.
(Alyson Widen 1:31pm May 1, 2009)

I LOVE military/ex-military heroes! I am adding your Dragon One to my TBR list!!
(Kelli Jo Calvert 1:36pm May 1, 2009)

Amy, this is really exciting! You're one of my favorite authors and can't wait to get the latest Dragon One!
(Maureen Child 2:16pm May 1, 2009)

Thanks for the insight.
(Shannon Scott 2:32pm May 1, 2009)

Congrats on the new release, Amy. I can't wait to read Riley's story.
(Jane Cheung 2:41pm May 1, 2009)

sounds like a great read.
(Vikki Parman 3:06pm May 1, 2009)

Way to go with the new release. Your series sounds interesting. Have a great day.
(Roberta Harwell 3:07pm May 1, 2009)

This sounds like a great book - I will be looking for your books now.
(Teresa Decker 3:48pm May 1, 2009)

I can hardly wait to read this new book. All the others have been "keepers".
(Rosemary Krejsa 4:02pm May 1, 2009)

ROSEMARY, thank you!!! So you're the one? lol. I logged on this morning and lost internet seconds later. It just came back on. Heads should roll!
ALYSON... I ALWAYS need a back up plan. Most of the time, I struggle with a plot to keep it fast and furious. Only a couple came with the big bang. You know, that one idea that nearly plots its self. Too rare. Wishing for one now. I map out plots in detail, since the stories are complicated, *I* need it to keep it all straight.
(Amy J. Fetzer 5:56pm May 1, 2009)

Lulu.. thank your husband for his service to our country, for me. 42 years??? WOW! I only know generals get to stay in that long in the Marines!
(Amy J. Fetzer 5:59pm May 1, 2009)

Amy, I have enjoyed your books. I would love to win Fight Fire With Fire!!

I think my favorite book of yours has to be Hit Hard.
(J H 5:59pm May 1, 2009)

Tami gets the IT guy, I have the
Construction Worker hero! Oh heck yeah!
I can't wait to read your books!
(Val Pearson 6:23pm May 1, 2009)

JANET... funny you mention HIT HARD because Viva was easy to write, I gave her my sense of humor and what my husband calls 'constantly flapping your jibs.' =)
(Amy J. Fetzer 6:41pm May 1, 2009)

Hi Amy, I just received my copy of Fght Fire with Fire I pre-ordered on Amazon, I have all your books and I love them, as a handicapped person you give me many hours of great reading.
Rebecca Delio
(Rebecca Delio 6:47pm May 1, 2009)

Thank you so much, Rebecca! Glad to entertain you.
(Amy J. Fetzer 6:50pm May 1, 2009)

Looking forward to reading Fight Fire With Fire
(Teresa Ward 7:13pm May 1, 2009)

Hi Amy, I'm looking forward to Fight Fire With Fire. Best of luck to a successful release.
(Sandy Miresse 10:24pm May 1, 2009)

Wow! What an excerpt. You really did an
excellent job of writing those scenes.
Can't wait to read the rest of the book.
Nice job!
(Patricia Barraclough 12:21pm May 2, 2009)

You are a new author to me and I will be definitely be checking out some of your books.
(Lisa White 12:42pm May 2, 2009)

Haven't read this yet, but wanna! Sounds exciting, yet realistic too! And fun...
(Anne Harris 9:23am May 2, 2009)

PATRICIA... thank you! I struggled with back story as an opening, yet I felt it was necessary for readers to know where Safia was coming from, and her connection to Riley. Telling that in conversation wouldn't have the impact I wanted. Readers never 'see' how the guys are so deeply connected, except in Fight Fire With Fire.
Lisa White--a new reader! Yeah! Makes it worth it, girl. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts after you've read FFWF.
I'd be interested in everyone's, really. I swear I don't take a deep breath till a reader emails me. If you go to Babesinbookland.com, you can read the openings of all the Dragon One books, and get to know the team.
Thanks for commenting everyone!
(Amy J. Fetzer 10:59am May 2, 2009)

You are a new name for me. I'm a very loyal reader, but I'm always on the look out for new writers too.
(Margie Whitten 3:41pm May 2, 2009)

Congrats on the new release, Amy. Can't wait to read Riley's story.
(Jane Cheung 4:43pm May 2, 2009)

Huge congrats on your latest, Amy! Your series is a terrific one!
(Fedora Chen 7:38pm May 2, 2009)

Always love a man in uniform & former men in uniform..stories. Some of the funniest & poignant stories are from the men & their families who lived life with them. I look forward to reading your books, as you are new to me too! Jean M.
(Jean Merriott 11:20pm May 2, 2009)

love your books amy
love naked truth that would make a great movie.
(Kim h 3:28am May 3, 2009)

Kim H... I agree Naked Truth would make a great movie. Can you see Gerald Butler playing Killian? =) I just want to see that hot bod on film again!
(Amy J. Fetzer 10:53am May 3, 2009)

OK, I am hooked, I have got to start the Dragon One series.
