Jayne Castle sits down with Fresh Fiction Reviewer Samantha Randolph to talk
about her newest release SIREN'S CALL, dust bunnies, and
Samantha: Hello, Jayne! Welcome to Fresh Fiction! We are so excited
to
have you interview. In your new release, SIREN'S
CALL, Ella encounters dust bunnies, adorable and fierce paranormal
animals who need her help. What inspired you to include these creatures?
Jayne: I love using animals in my books because they tell us so much
about the human characters. The dust bunnies are a mix of all the animal
companions we have known and loved in our lives. Plus, they’ve got a cool
psychic vibe. The only bad news for me is that they have pretty much taken
over my Jayne Castle life.
Samantha: You write under a few different names, including Amanda
Quick and Jayne Ann Krentz. What do you most like about writing as
Jayne
Castle?
Jayne: I get to do plots and stories in my Jayne Castle world that I
can’t do anywhere else. And it’s a whole lot of fun to create my own world
and make up all the rules.
Samantha: Not only do you write under different names, but you write
in different genres (historical, contemporary, futuristic). How hard is it
to
changes hats when writing when going between sub-genres of romance?
Jayne: I don’t even think about changing hats. The landscape of the
story – historical, contemporary or futuristic -- sets the stage. The rest
is
intuitive. I just run with it.
Samantha: The protagonist, Ella, in SIREN'S
CALL, has a very powerful ability in her song, being able to use it as a
weapon, a safety measure, or even to make someone forget they saw her as she
sings them to a deep sleep. Is there a song or singer whose music inspired
you while writing?
Jayne: Nope. Can’t listen to music and write at the same time. In
fact, when I’m writing, I can’t think about anything else. The story
consumes me.
Samantha: Can you give us a hint about what you're working on next?
Jayne: My next book is SECRET SISTERS (under my Jayne Ann Krentz
name). It will be out in early December. This one blindsided me. I had
nothing going in except the title and an opening scene that I could see so
clearly in my head it scared me. But it was all there at the start.
Everything I needed was concealed within the title.
Samantha: What are the last three books you read and loved?
Jayne: I’m a huge fan of romantic suspense. Luckily I’ve got some
friends who write some of the best stuff in the genre. In the past year
I’ve read and loved Christina Dodd’s VIRTUE
FALLS, Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ HEROES ARE
MY WEAKNESS and Elizabeth Lowell’s PERFECT
TOUCH.
Jayne Ann Krentz is the author of twenty-seven New York Times bestsellers
and
has nearly 30 million books in print. She has been gathering loyal readers
