Maria Geraci | Got Bunco?

goodreadstwitterfacebookpinterest

In case you don’t know what Bunco is, let me explain. Think of a guy’s poker night. Then substitute the beer for frozen margaritas, the cards for dice, and the cigars for gossip. Sound like fun?

I got the idea for my debut novel Bunco Babes Tell All while at the RWA writing conference in Reno. I was at dinner with friends and I was wearing my “lucky” Bunco bracelet. I was laughing when I happened to glance down at my bracelet and faster than you can roll a couple of dice, it all came to me. I needed to write a book about a group of women who play Bunco! I’d been an avid player since 1992 and knew firsthand that it would make a great backdrop to a fun and quirky women’s fiction novel.

Once the seed was planted, the rest of the story took life. My main character, Kitty Burke, is the only Bunco Babe who’s still single, so I knew I’d have to give her a hot romance. But a smarmy land developer, Kitty’s cougar-wanna-be mother, and a group of overzealous senior citizens who call themselves the “Gray Flamingos” all stand in the way of Kitty’s happy ending. No worries, though. After a few trials and tribulations, Kitty and the rest of the Bunco Babes get their happily-ever-after. For now, that is. The second book in my series Bunco Babes Gone Wild (coming in Nov, 2009) focuses on another protagonist, but picks up with the rest of the characters from the first book. And by the title, you can only imagine what sort of trouble the Babes get into!

My fictional Bunco Babes are like real women everywhere. They’re married, have kids, jobs, and all the modern day stressors that come with being a woman in today’s society. They get together every Thursday night to roll the dice, drink frozen margaritas, gossip and laugh, but most importantly for those couple of hours each week, they connect with their girlfriends and escape from the pressures of their every day lives. They rejuvenate themselves and leave Bunco a little bit happier than they where when they started the night.

Like I said earlier, sounds like fun, right?

Leave a comment and Fresh Fiction will randomly select one person to win an autographed copy of Bunco Babes Tell All. Please visit my website at www.mariageraci.com to read more about my books. If you belong to a Bunco group and would like your group to be featured on my “Let’s Play Bunco!” page, I’d love to have you!

Happy Bunco-ing!

Hi Maria, it sound like your book would have a lot of humor in it and I really enjoy books like that. I can't say I have ever heard of Bunco but it sounds interesting.

I love the title of your book. I play a little Bunco myself and think the book would be a great gift to fellow bunco players.

Bunco is so much fun! I tried it for the first time at your RT party, and am now totally hooked. Maybe I should start a group in my town...

I have heard of Bunco groups but have never played it. Tell all from these groups probably takes on a new meaning, lol.

I love Bunco! I'm from a HUGE family, and it's a great way to bond over generations! Some of my fondest memories of my Great-Aunt Nancy are of Bunco!
