Erynn Mangum | The Season of Inspiration
It is no secret to those around me that I love the cold seasons. I get so happy
the second it gets a little crispy outside. I find my favorite fuzzy slippers, I
pull out my favorite sweaters and I pop in my favorite Christmas music.
Yes. Christmas music. In October. I am the person who makes the rest of you
Grinches who wait until after Thanksgiving to start listening insane.
I love when it's cold outside and it's warm inside. I love that it's the season
for hot drinks โ coffee, tea and hot chocolate. I love snuggling under blankets
and watching movies.
And I really love writing. Oh, how I love writing in the cold! There's just
something magical that happens when the frost builds up on the windows, the
coffeepot is gurgling contentedly, I'm wrapped in a blanket with my feet in my
slippers and my laptop is in front of me. Inspiration just flows.
Sadly, though, I live in New Mexico. Which means that this kind of weather
usually only lasts about four months. Which leaves a good eight months of
warmish, hot or windy weather.
Inspiration has never come from the wind. At least in this house.
I've had times where I've tried to fake the winter-ish feeling in the middle of
June when deadlines are looming and I need some charge. I'll light cinnamon
candles, I'll turn up the A/C and slurp down the coffee. I'll close all the
blinds and sit in a blanket.
It never works.
My newest novel, PAIGE
REWRITTEN, releases this week. I remember writing most of this book not
"inspired" at all. It was hot outside, I was going through a very hard time
personally and things just weren't lining up in my list for what creates an
optimal writing environment for me.
So, I had to learn to look beyond the inspiration I preferred. And you know
what? I found inspiration in just that.
Every season is special. Every time of year has it's own inspirations. I'm still
partial to the fall and winter, but I'm learning that writing isn't a job you
can do when it's convenient or when the inspiration hits. Being a writer is so
much more - it's sitting at the table, forcing the words onto the page, even if
you're tired, sick or feeling completely at a loss for what to type. It's
suffering through the days of 24 total words written so you can get to the days
of thousands of words written. It's sometimes letting go completely and trusting
that God has a plan even in that.
We all have our strengths and times when we really just feel the words flowing.
But we also all have our weaknesses and times when we honestly just don't think
we will be able to finish our current work-in-progress. And that, I think, is
when we have the most opportunity to learn.
Paige Alder is in a really good place. She's dating nice guy Tyler. Her boss has
offered her a raise. Her walk with God is strong. Life is great—and that's
when
things start to change.
First, the youth pastor at church keeps asking Paige to work with him full time.
Then her sister shows up newly engaged and wanting to reconnect, even though
they haven't spoken in years. And now former boyfriend Luke has come back into
her life. How is Paige supposed to know what the right decisions are?
This warm and humorous second book in the Paige Alder series will help young
girls work through important issues such as forgiving others and obeying God.

I would have to say that Paige's story is unlike so many women nowadays. When something happens to them, it's normally more than one thing at a time, and they end up doing a juggling act, trying to either keep all of the balls in the air at the same time, or just the balls that they decide are most important. The tricky part is having the moral compass to decide which ones are the most important. Nobody said that life is easy, and I, myself, have gone through many years being a juggler. Each person has their own set of problems, and there are no set of rules as to how to settle them. As for your book, it will be interesting to read how Paige is going to juggle the balls that she was given. It looks like a great Fall read, and the cover is very sweet. It reminds me of the cutout dolls that we used to do as kids.

Sounds like a good book. I wear slippers year round. One day it was rainy and my feet got wet. It was a cool day in summer. When I got home I put on some warm fuzzy slippers and it made me feel better.

christmas is here all year round in bran-son mo and then i go to the store and usually buy new bears to add to my tree il ove to have the holiday around and want to decorate soon
