Sara Jane Stone | Fact vs. Fiction: The Story Behind the Sin City Setting in TO DARE A SEAL

Last spring, my husband and I took a kids-free trip (thank you Grandma!) to Las Vegas. Four days of lying by the pool, dining with grown-ups (and not having to do the dishes afterward), and scooping out settings for the second Sin City novel.

But when I sat down to write only one setting from my trip stuck in my head. The other locations? Pure fiction. Can you guess which setting is real?

1. The party room at Chocolatini. This party spot features velvet couches, floor-to-ceiling windows, and buff, shirtless men serving rum punch “tea” to the bachelorette and her guests.

2. The hotel’s Greek God inspired pools. Columns, fountains—this location is like the adult Disney version of antiquity. A long, narrow pool runs through the center of the space. Smaller, circular pools stand at each end. There is even swim-up blackjack!

3. Sizzling Secrets Sex Toy Shop. Located in a maze of stores, Sizzling Secrets offers everything from chocolate body paint to black bondage ties.

After visiting Las Vegas’ pools, shops, and unique restaurants, I felt all of these locations were plausible. But did you guest which one was real?

If you guessed #2, you’re right! I based the Greek God pool setting on the stunning pools at Caesar’s Palace. I spent the day lounging with one of my oldest friends at this stunning Oasis. My husband and my girlfriend’s spouse played swim-up blackjack while we soaked up the sun.

The other settings? Chocolatini and Sizzling Secrets are fictional locations. But I think they’d make a great addition to Sin City!
