Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for having me here today. As you may have heard, my latest Weaving Mystery novel, LOOM AND DOOM, has just come out and I hope you all enjoy it.

Somebody asked me, just the other day, why I made the setting for my novel a small town. The reason is simple. I am a small town girl. Or rather, I used to be a small town girl. I was raised in a town in Canada, on the border of Ontario and Quebec. Population was so small that when I left...All kidding aside, once a small town girl, always a small town girl. I can dress up, make myself all glamorous but at heart I will always be the same. When I reached adulthood, I moved to Montreal, where I became a successful fashion model, and when I turned thirty, I retired from modelling and became a model’s agent until I sold my agency. After that I took some financial and investment courses and became a financial planner and host of my own money show which aired for four years. During all that time, I always dreamed of moving back to a small town. That is what writing did for me. It made it possible for me to spend a part of the year living in a very small town, because as long as I have my laptop, I can write from anywhere.

There is something special about small towns. People don’t seem to race when they walk down the street. One doesn’t have to go around the block five times to find a parking spot, or get stuck in traffic for an hour getting home. The air is cleaner, the sound pollution lower, neighbors friendlier and the daily stress so much less. If you are lucky enough to live in a small town with a view of mountains, as Della does, (Della is the main character of LOOM AND DOOM.) then you’ve got it made.

When I write, I like to use scenery I’m familiar with, decors I like, and I know small towns. I can’t tell you how many of the decors in my novels come straight out of my life. For example, in this last novel Della embarks on a new form of weaving, native-style weaving. The reason is that I am totally into it myself. Our summer residence is a farm, just outside that small town I was telling you about, and I’ve been decorating it with native throw rugs, native sculptures and native baskets. It is so beautiful, country and friendly all at the same time. I just had to use it in a novel.

I hope you enjoy reading about it.

All my best,
Carol Ann Martin

About LOOM AND DOOM

From the national bestselling author of WEAVE OF ABSENCE comes a mystery set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where weaving studio owner Della Wright finds herself tangled up in murder….

Della and her friend Jenny are remodeling Dream Weaver, turning their shared business space into two separate shops. But after the work is completed, building inspector Howard Swanson refuses to grant Jenny the permit to reopen her coffee shop. Determined to get to the bottom of the hold-up, Della heads to Howard’s office to defend Jenny’s livelihood, only to find the inspector dead—and the police spinning a yarn about Della being responsible.

Although Della’s boyfriend, Matthew, an ex-FBI criminologist, claims there’s no need to worry, Della is convinced that the cops have it in for her. Now she must nab the real killer before she’s shuttled off to jail….

Re: Carol Ann Martin | Once a Small Town Girl...

In my case, I went from city living most of my life, to living in the country just a few years ago. I wouldn't change it for the world!! I might not have a view of the mountains, but I'm a mile away from one of the Great Lakes!! There are woods a few yards away, and farmland behind my place, as well as across the street. It's fascinating to watch the farmers work, and to figure out which crop is going to grow every year. The wildlife is beautiful and wonderful to watch. As for your book, weaving has always fascinated me, and I love mysteries, so you have covered all the bases. I'm really looking forward to reading it!! The cover is beautifully done with all the artwork. Someone did an amazing job on it. Congratulations on your book!!
