I grew up in a house where we laughed a lot. We often poked fun at
one another, called each other out for stupid things we did, and never let
anyone live down one bad mistake.
As a result, I find myself drawn to novels and movies that have a large amount
of humor and wit in them. Donβt get me wrong, I can appreciate deep, heartfelt
storylines, but Iβve learned that I have to be in the mood for a good cry. And
the older I get, the less I enjoy putting myself through the emotional roller
coaster. Wow. That made me sound like an old maid. I guess what I mean is that
it takes me DAYS to recover from a novel or movie where Iβve balled my eyes out
all night. Instead, if Iβve laughed through most of it, no recovery is needed
and I move onto the next enjoyment.
Thatβs important. I feel like life is serious enough. We deal with so many
stressors every day that we need an escape from it all.
These are my top 5 laugh-out-loud movies that no matter what kind of mood Iβm
in, they are my go-to in order to turn my mood around.
Whatβs Your
Number β (The novel is titled 20 Times A Lady) β What an
adorable story. Such a funny premise about a woman (played by Anna Faris) who
decides that after twenty partners, she should have found true love. So she goes
back and tracks down all her past lovers to try to give them another look. You
canβt help but love the main character for all her bumbling mistakes. Sheβs so
endearing. And Chris Evans. Ladies, let me repeat thatβChris Evans. He spends
most of the movie nearly naked and is so freaking cute and funny. Never fails to
make me laugh out loud, no matter how many times Iβve seen it.
Bad Boys β
This one isnβt a romantic comedy. Instead it deals with drugs and crime,
and the Miami cops trying to stop it. But there are some freaking FUNNY
one-liners in this movie. Without fail, if this movie shows up on my TV guide,
Iβm flipping it on. Itβs raunchy and foul humor, and you really only get the
full effect on a channel that doesnβt bleep out the bad words, but it easily
goes down as one of my favs. Martin Lawrenceβs character is just crazy enough
that he walks that fine line between hysterical and loony. This movie was
actually what helped me to shape the storyline for my debut novel, ON HER SIX. I even give a
nod to Club Hell (a club in this movie) in my novel.
Liar, Liar β
Iβm not a big Jim Carrey fan. I saw Ace Ventura and many of his other work,
and none of it makes me laugh the way that this movie does. This one is smart
funny, where I felt like a lot of his other work was silly funny. Itβs about a
lawyer whoβs very successful because he liesβ¦all the time. His son makes a wish
that his dad canβt lie for an entire day. And it comes true. So the lawyer
spends the entire movie not being able to lie his way through anything. His
honesty in telling people what heβs really been thinking is HILARIOUS. The
one-liners in this movie are CLASSIC. My family and I still quote lines from
this movie on a regular basis.
National Lampoonβs
Christmas Vacation β This goes for all the original National Lampoons.
I grew up on old Chevy Chase movies. My dad used to laugh like a fool watching
Clark Griswold deal with such unfortunate circumstances. Man, the things that
guy went through. And he is such a sweetheart, you canβt help but feel so bad
for him. Those are the types of stories I LOVE.
How To Lose A Guy in 10
Days β Another one thatβs like a train wreck. You canβt help but watch.
So entertaining watching how much crap the characters are going to put each
other through, and yet you smile the entire time youβre watching it. Such
amazing conflict in this story that itβs just laughter non-stop. Princess
Sophia. Thatβs all Iβm going to say. So, so funny.
Christina believes that laughter really is the best medicine, which is why in
her stories she blends a healthy dose of hilarious hijinks with gritty
suspense.
When sheβs not writing fun contemporary romance or quirky
romantic suspense, Christina can be found devouring books in every genre,
watching Chris Hemsworth on TV, playing board games with her family, working
out, watching Chris Hemsworth on TV, napping, watching Chris Hemsworth on TV,
and shoppingβ¦for Chris Hemsworthβs latest DVD.
She lives near Baltimore
with her husband and two sons, who give her an endless supply of humorous
material to write about.
New neighbors are bad news in Samantha Harperβs experience. Especially ones
as suspicious and brooding as the guy who just moved in next door. So when the
dangerous but sexy stranger seems to be involved in something illegalβthe
aspiring cop in her takes action. If only she could stop thinking about how he
looks naked...
All DEA agent Ash Cooper wants to do is lay low and survive this crap
surveillance assignment. But after a run-in with his attractive neighbor, he
realizes thatβs going to be much harder than he planned. Keeping the woman out
of trouble is hard enough, but keeping his hands off her is near impossible.
Ooohhh. On Her Six sounds SO good! Want to read this! (Kathleen Bylsma 6:41pm May 23, 2016)
"Laughter is the best medicine." Laughter has gotten me through some very tough times. "Liar, Lair" is one of my go to movies, too. (Joanne Hicks 10:34pm May 23, 2016)
