Krista Davis | Animals as Characters

pinteresttwitterfacebook
One of the fun things about writing the Paws & Claws Mysteries for dog and cat lovers is writing the characters of animals. Everyone who has a dog or cat family member knows how different they all are. For instance, in my real life, I have a Golden Retriever who is red, not golden, and absolutely refuses to retrieve. She makes me laugh because sheโ€™s kind of like me. When I toss her a ball, she ducks! Meanwhile her brother, Baron, loves nothing more than catching a tossed ball. There are two new pets in MURDER MOST HOWL that are based on real animals. Ella Mae belongs to one of my readers. Sheโ€™s a ten-pound mix of miniature pinscher and rat terrier. In the book, a couple is interested in adopting her. Well, the wife is interested, but the husband-not so much! Iโ€™m not telling how that turns out.

The other newcomer is a big cat named Leo. His human won the right to have the
pet of her choice in one of my books. Leo is a great cat. He thinks heโ€™s in
charge in his feline world but is confused by humans who donโ€™t understand him.

Do you have a cat or a dog who would be a great character in a book?

The New York Times bestselling author of THE GHOST AND MRS. MEWER and THE DIVA STEALS A CHOCOLATE KISS returns with a tail of a ruff winter

This January, Wagtail, Virginia, the top pet-friendly destination in the country, is throwing a fun murder mystery weekendโ€”but no one expected the real thing...

Holly Miller is delighted her grandmother has finally left the Sugar Maple Inn to take a well-deserved vacation. It means Hollyโ€™s in charge, but running the inn might be more challenging than she realized. Wagtailโ€™s throwing a weekend-long murder mystery game to draw in tourists during the slow season, the inn has a full house, and a blizzard is on the way.

Trouble is unleashed the night the game begins, when the storm blows in and the lights go out. It gets worse the following morning when Hollyโ€™s Jack Russell terrier, Trixie, discovers a bodyโ€”one thatโ€™s actually dead. Now Holly, her calico kitten Twinkletoes, and Trixie must play by the rules and find one dirty dog...

Re: Krista Davis | Animals as Characters

I currently own 3 cats. Two of them were born
literally at my feet. The third one came to us
recently, because someone happened to dump them on the
property where we live, and she came up to our house,
screaming outside of our window, wanting to be let
in!! Because it was cold, my Husband was a bit
reluctant because of our other 2 cats, but I said to
just let her in. She was as tame as could be.
Anyway, I could tell you stories about my 3, and see
if you could use them for a book. My other 2 are only
a couple of years old, so they're still growing, but I
have a lot of stories to tell about them already. I'm
looking forward to reading your latest book, and think
that it's wonderful that you use stories about
readers' pets in your books. That's quite an honor
for them!! Have a wonderful 2016, and hope to talk by
e-mail in the near future about my cats.

Yes, Max is my granddaughter's Golden. He is 10 years old
but nobody has told him that so he thinks he about 2 years
old.
They adopted a rescue dog but not sure what Taz is. He has
adjusted to the family quite well. Yesterday, I was at
their house and was petting Taz; he could sit for hours
while someone pets him.
They are my animals as I do not have any now.
I love animals in stories. These are "feel good" books.
I have added you to my TBR list foe sure. Thanks
for the info.
