The Blackwells is a multi-author series published by Harlequin Heartwarming (the line most like Hallmark movies). In this lighthearted cowboy series, Elias “Big E” Blackwell has managed to alienate his entire family by his desire to run the large Blackwell Ranch alone. Now that he’s in his eighties and feeling his mortality, Big E is determined to bring the family back together—all branches of the family.
This simple premise has led to a 20-book, sweet romance series divided into four connected sets:
- Books 1-5: Return of the Blackwell Brothers (Big E’s 5 grandsons)
- Books 6-10: The Blackwell Sisters (Big E’s 5 granddaughters from a son he didn’t know he had)
- Books 11-15: The Blackwells of Eagle Springs (Big E’s sister’s 5 grandchildren)
- Books 16-20 (releasing July-November 2024): The Blackwell Belles (Big E’s sister’s 5 granddaughters)
Let’s meet the Blackwell characters I’ve written:
In Book 3, THE RANCHER’S REDEMPTION, cowboy/jaded lawyer Ben Blackwell is called home because former friend Rachel is suing Big E over water rights. Ben has avoided returning to Falcon Creek for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which was that he was jilted at the altar by Rachel’s best friend. At first, he’s not worried about Rachel’s legal skills—she’s too soft, too kindhearted. He never expects to find that softness to be her hidden strength.
In Book 6, MONTANA WELCOME, Lily Harrison’s wedding day isn’t quite what she imagined. Not only does her fiancé not love her, she’s just discovered she’s a Blackwell—a member of Montana’s well-known ranching family headed by Big E Blackwell. With nothing but her hoop-skirted wedding dress, Lily’s ditched her wedding for a road trip with handsome cowboy Conner Hannah. But will Lily find her answers in Montana…or lose the cowboy she’s already begun falling for?
In Book 15, WYOMING CHRISTMAS REUNION, Helen Blackwell never stopped loving horse trainer Nash…even when she divorced him. When the stoic cowboy bets the ranch on her winning a cutting horse competition—and she’s terrified to ride—she wonders if there’s any hope for them. Renewing the love between them may take more than a moment under the mistletoe. But working together could heal past hurts and give their five-year-old son his Christmas wish!
In Book 16, A COWGIRL NEVER FORGETS (available everywhere July 23), rodeo cowgirl Maggie Blackwell doesn’t need her estranged family. She’s got Clem Coogan—her best friend, rodeo buddy and absolute rock. But when a rodeo accident leaves Clem with a terrible concussion, he’s convinced they’re a romantic item…and proposes to her. Now until his memory comes back, Maggie’s playing along. But can she keep this headache from turning into heartache for both of them?
I have a lot of fun writing these sweet cowboy romcoms with some of my best writing buddies: Anna J. Stewart, Cari Lynn Webb, Carol Ross, and Amy Vastine. Each of us has a slightly different comedic voice but together we write Blackwell books in perfect Harmony! If you enjoy extended family series with multi-generational storylines, I hope you give the Blackwells a try.
One bonus about A COWGIRL NEVER FORGETS: This is a cross-over book using characters from the Blackwell series and my Cowboy Academy series. It’s the perfect way to try out both series where you’ll laugh a little, cry a little, and sigh a little. Enjoy!

Although Melinda has lived in Georgia and Texas, she's a California girl at heart. Her earliest memories are of life on an isolated 50-acre sheep ranch in rural Sonoma County, California. Picture rolling hills covered in brown grass, a eucalyptus forest, a long gravel driveway lined with plump sheep and no sidewalks. It was a big deal to drive into town on a one-lane road in a ramshackle, bubble-fendered pickup for an ice cream.
Flash forward to this century. Melinda lives in California's hot central valley with her husband - her basketball playing college sweetheart. With three kids the couple has done the soccer thing, the karate thing, the dance thing, the Little League thing and, of course, the basketball thing.
Melinda writes sweet to medium heat contemporary romances as Melinda Curtis and red hot reads as Mel Curtis. She loves writing romances about women who don't realize how strong they are until a hero comes along to show them, while capturing the wry humorous power struggle of falling in love - because, really, who lets the man have the last word?
