Collette Cameron | 20 Questions: MIDNIGHT CHRISTMAS WALTZ

bloggoodreadstwitterfacebook

1--What is the title of your latest release?

MIDNIGHT CHRISTMAS WALTZ, Chronicles of the Westbrook Brides Prequel

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A dazzling new series introducing the Westbrook family. Perfect for Bridgerton fans, this saga is chock-full of humor, intrigue, heartwarming loyalty, and sigh-worthy romantic adventures, featuring charming and often scandalous rogues and the spirited and unconventional women who become the Westbrook Brides.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I love the Regency era and Christmas. What could be better than a holiday Regency house party at a ducal country estate? Family members from as far away as America make their way home for the festivities.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Well, this prequel has more than one heroine, but Grandmama, the dowager duchess steals the show. I would definitely enjoy hanging out with her. She’s a bit eccentric, spirited, and her family means everything to her. She’s not above scheming a little to get them home for the holidays, but she’s not manipulative—just good-hearted and determined.

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Loyal, fierce, and passionate (ooh la la.)

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I took an entirely unique approach in Midnight Christmas Waltz. Because the book is a prequel to the long series, I introduced several lead characters of upcoming books. If the early reviews are any indication, the gamble paid off. My readers are raving about the concept.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I’m a former teacher… I edit, edit, edit as I draft. LOL.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Just one? I adore pasta, especially chicken Alfredo. But I’m also a pumpkin fan so anything pumpkin is hard for me to resist - scones, pie, lattes, bread… You get the idea

9--Describe your writing space/office!

When my youngest son went off to college, I commandeered his bedroom and turned it into my writing room. It’s very feminine but functional, and it overlooks my backyard, so I get to see squirrels, chipmunks, and birds all day.

10--Who is an author you admire?

There are so many that it is hard to name just one. I really mean that. I don’t just write historical romance, I read the genre too. I adore Virginia Heath’s and Caroline Lee’s humor, the emotion Christi Caldwell, Caroline Warfield, and Annabelle Anders evoke, and Eloisa James and Julia Quinn’s witty prose. But there are so many more whose writing is just brilliant.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

I didn’t know it at the time, and I’m revealing my age, but The Flame and The Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss made such an impact on me, I named my daughter Brianna after the heroine, Heather Brianna.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

It was August 2012. I remember it clearly. I received an email from my publisher congratulating me. I ran outside to tell my husband, so excited, I could hardly talk. I might’ve stepped on his feet, happy dancing. That was 55 books ago. There’s something magical about that first book.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Historical romance of course! Especially Regency and Scottish/Highlanders. I also enjoy Viking, Victorian, and Tudor.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

The Count of Monte Cristo with Jim Caviezel.

My oldest son watched it with me one time, and even he was impressed.

15--What is your favorite season?

Summer. The flowers are in bloom, the summer birds and fawns visit my feeders, and the days are long.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I stopped celebrating a few decades ago. Not really. I was born at the Oregon coast in August, and I still enjoy going back there for a stroll on the beach while sipping a white chocolate mocha.  As long as my family is with me, I’m content.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Miss Scarlet and the Duke and Sanditon. Of course, both are historical romances.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Italian and I don’t have any Italian in me.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Read (while snuggling with my 4 dachshunds) garden, hike, decorate (I’m a certified interior decorator), and travel. I also teach writing workshops (I’m a retired teacher.)

20--What can readers expect from you next?

LADY TEMPTS A ROGUE is the final book in my Daughters of Desire (Scandalous Ladies) series. That’s due out in February 2023. In January 2023, WICKED EARLS FOREVER releases. It’s the final installment of the wicked earls which makes me really sad. I adore those wicked earls. I also have three more Chronicles of the Westbrook Brides releasing in 2023 as well as three anthologies: Harvest Moon, Christmas in Cumbria, and Rakes and Reticules (Lords and Ladies of St. James.) Lastly, I’m working on an inspirational contemporary series based the Oregon coast.

MIDNIGHT CHRISTMAS WALTZ by Collette Cameron

Chronicles of the Westbrook Brides

Midnight Christmas Waltz

A dazzling new series introducing the Westbrook family from USA Today bestselling author Collette Cameron. Perfect for Bridgerton fans, this saga is chock-full of humor, intrigue, heartwarming loyalty, and sigh-worthy romantic adventures, featuring charming and often scandalous rogues and the spirited and unconventional women who become the Westbrook Brides.

There’s no place like home for the holidays…
especially if Grandmama possesses supernatural powers…

Determined to have her children and grandchildren present for what may be her last Christmas, the eccentric and fiery Libby Westbrook, Dowager Duchess of Latham, takes matters into her own hands. Proclaiming a top-secret crisis, the elderly dame sends urgent missives far and wide, summoning her kinfolk home. And for mysterious reasons the extended Westbrook family don’t understand, they are compelled to obey…almost as if mythical forces are at work.

Putting aside bitter rivalries, pressing obligations, and perilous liaisons, the duke’s eight children journey to their ancestral home—some curious, others with excited anticipation, and at least one, grudgingly reluctant. Days filled with holiday traditions and activities bring forgiveness, laughter, and love as the Christmas season works its magic. Or is Grandmama, descended from Roma gypsies and claiming to possess a supernatural gift, responsible for the transformation?

Hearts are healed, relationships rekindled, souls rejuvenated, and the Westbrooks realize that at any time of year, family is the greatest gift of all.
