We all have our favorite types of men we like to read about, the ones in the books we put in our keeper pile and go back to when we need a pick-me-up. The ones we daydream about from time to time. So, I thought it might be fun to explore who we might find between the covers of our favorite romance books (or under the covers as the case may be).

  1. The CEO: This guy could be a detective or a doctor. He’s capable and confident, and often stubborn and controlling. He gets annoyed by any change to his plans and is thrown off balance when he meets someone he can’t figure out.
  2. The Bad Boy: Brooding and tight-lipped, he isn’t one to talk your ear off. He keeps his feelings locked up tight because something in his past has hurt him, bad. Maybe he’s a mechanic or a criminal, but he’s seductive all the same.
  3. The Guy Next Door: Funny and cute, this one makes you laugh. You feel like you can be yourself around him. He looks out for you, and knows just what you like. He gets under your skin, until you don’t know what you’d do without him.
  4. The Sweet Talker: He’s charming, well-dressed, and sexy. He knows just how to show you a good time. A smooth talker, he can convince you into doing just about anything, but you’ll have to fight through that shiny exterior to reach his heart.
  5. The Artist/Musician: Mellow and sweet, this guy is a free spirit, open to life and living. His emotions end up on canvas or as lyrics to a song, his easiest way to express them. He doesn’t mind the spotlight, but it’s the quiet moments when the real show begins.
  6. The Adventure Junkie: He lives for the adrenaline high and is unafraid to take risks. Exciting and dangerous, he makes your heart pump hard. He’s the one capable of pushing your life to its limits if you’ll let him.
  7. The Warrior: He’s a man’s man, a soldier, an athlete, or construction worker. Protective and tenacious, he thinks he knows best, which can be annoying, but he makes you feel safe. He’ll fight for your heart, and despite yourself, you’ll gladly surrender.

Hmm. So what do you think? I like them all. How about you? What type of hero do you favor? Are you constantly looking for books of a certain type? Come on, you can divulge your secrets. I won’t tell.

ONCE UPON A MASQUERADE

New York City, 1883

A Prince Charming meets his match...

Self-made shipping magnate Christopher Black first spies Rebecca Bailey at a masquerade ball and is captivated by her refreshing naivete and sparkling beauty. She's a stark contrast to the hollow behavior of the ton and the guile of his former fiancee, but the closer he gets to her secrets, the further she pushes him away.

A Cinderella with a secret...

Rebecca is drawn to the charismatic Christopher from the first, but she cannot risk him discovering that she is really a housemaid impersonating an heiress. Her father's life depends on it.

A Happily Ever After that could never be...

When Christopher's investigation of the murder of his best friend leads him straight to Rebecca, he fears his ingenue may be a femme fatale in disguise. Now he must decide if he can trust the woman he's come to love, or if her secrets will be his downfall.

Re: Tamara Hughes | Romance Heroes at Their Best

Personally, I don't care for the Heroes to be too domineering, although I know they need to be to a fault. By that I mean that I enjoy reading about the Hero who swoops in, and knocks the Heroine off her feet - more on the order of the old-fashioned Romance. When you start talking about Alpha males, domineering, and that sort of thing, to me, it's a bit of a turn-off. They can be a bit domineering, but they also have to have a tender side to them, as well as a humorous side which is more beoming. Your latest book sounds like it's going to be a real-page turner, and I can't wait to read it!! I adore the cover, too!! It's quite a switch from the ladies in ball gowns!! Congratulations on your book!!

Thanks, Peggy! I can see what you're saying about the heroes who are too domineering. Some of it, the protectiveness, is great, but if he's downright controlling, that can be creepy.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank Fresh Fiction for having me here today. This is really a treat!

I love the variety! Something for whatever mood I tend to be in... so many types and personalities to meet between the pages of a book... enjoy them all getting bit by the love bug!
(Colleen Conklin 12:23pm February 15, 2014)

I'm with Colleen -- I like variety in my reading heros! It
all depends on my mood as to what kind of hotness I want to
read about. Although I am not into the 'forced seduction'
novels.
(Glenda Martillotti 12:28pm February 15, 2014)

I read a pretty big variety too. It's fun to meet them all.
(Tamara Hughes 2:23pm February 15, 2014)

I favor the Warrior and the Guy Next Door. I'm not much on a
Sweet Talker or Artist/Musician.
(Janie McGaugh 3:07pm February 15, 2014)

Its a toss up between the guy next door and the bad boy. In my real life I tend to go for the bad boy but I know I should go for the guy next door. I love to read about all of them the artsy type is fun to read about.
(Denise Austin 6:01pm February 15, 2014)

My Romance Heroes run the gamut, because it depends on my mood at the time. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a funny love story, and at other times I'm in the mood for something I can really sink my teeth into (no pun intended). The only Romance Hero I tend to shy away from is the Hero that is too overbearing. That type tends to turn me off. I adored the cover of your latest book from the first time I laid eyes on it, and I also can't wait to read it!! The excerpt sounds as mysterious as the cover. Congratulations on what I'm sure will hit its' mark as a real hit!!
(Peggy Roberson 8:32am February 16, 2014)

I like warriors - or historical soldiers.
(MaryAnne Banks 1:13pm February 16, 2014)

I like heroes of all types even the clueless ones, which
didn't make it on your list.
(Alyson Widen 4:42pm February 16, 2014)

Thanks, Peggy! You're so sweet!

Janie and Denise, I favor the guy next door in real life, but my reading preferences are all over the board. So many fun guys to read about.
(Tamara Hughes 7:33pm February 16, 2014)

MaryAnne - Historical men, yeah.

Alyson - Ha! Love it! I'm thinking men in each of these categories can be clueless at times, especially when it comes to women.
(Tamara Hughes 9:14am February 17, 2014)

My personal favorite is the Warrior. I'm lucky to have a real
life warrior as my husband so I admit, they tend to tug on my
heartstrings more then any other.
(Suzy F. 10:36am February 17, 2014)

I like bad boys and nerds---what a combo, huh?
(Sue Farrell 1:49pm February 17, 2014)

I like the CEO and the Warrior types. I love your hero description list.
(Kai Wong 3:23pm February 17, 2014)

I like the Warrior type. I also like the CEO type as they appear to be a good challenge. Thanks for the giveaway.
(Kathleen Beale 6:55pm February 17, 2014)

It depends... the environment, the other characters...
Yes, I would like to be entered. Thanks
