Name's Shaw, but most people call me Savage. I'm a Highlander, born and bred,
proud of my Scots roots. Proud of my clan, the MacDougalls. Proud of who I have
become. A defender of the weak. But I'm also a pirate. A ravager on the high
seas. I pillage towns, I fight and crush my enemies. I love a good, hard whisky
and a soft, willing lass. I wasna always a pirate. Born in Oban, Scotland to a
cold bastard who sold me to a pirate king to gain his own freedom. Look at me
now. I'm the prince of pirates, the leader of the Devils of the Deep. The world
fears me, and yet those I save, worship the sea I glide on. I've never been in
love, and I never will be. Love weakens a man—trust me on this point.
I might be brigand, but I've got me code, too. Sit down and I'll tell ye.
Never trust a pirate.
Aye, ye might be giving me a wonky eye at that one, but ‘tis true. Pirates canna
be trusted. Unless they are a part of your brethren. Ye see, a pirate's duty is
to rob ye. Rob ye blind of anything ye hold of value—including your pride and
dignity, and possibly your life. And most of the blimey bastards I deal with,
well, they do. Take my enemies for example. Damned Van Rompey and Santiago.
Scourges of the earth. Devils in breeches. I'd not trust them with my jug of
whisky. The only pirates I can trust are my brethren. We're not devils, even if
they call me Savage. We ravage only those that are deserving of it. And the ones
that need saving? Well… my claymore does the speaking for me.
Honor reigns supreme.
There's honor within the lords of the sea. We honor each other. We honor the
brethren. If an enemy goes against one of us, he goes against us all. For
hundreds of years, we have protected the weak. Our name lives in infamy, decade
after decade, century after century, because we are strong. Because we have a
moral code. Honor, above all else, rules our brethren. Once our word is given,
it is law. Carved into our skin and remaining there until the day we die.
Crush thy enemies.
There is no place on the earth or sea for men with evil in their hearts. We
leave no stone unturned. Our enemies have no place to hide. We know all of their
sins. And we dinna stop until we've seen them vanquished.
The brethren comes first.
The brethren is our family. The bond canna be broken. Not by man, woman or
child. If anything dares come between the brethren and thyself, a man should
take his own blade to his heart. This is why we canna love. We canna have
family. Because the love of a woman, of a child of your blood, can cause a man
to go against his code. And to go against the brethren, is to jeopardize one's
honor. My heart is steel. My mind is sharp.
Protect the weak.
Our greatest leader, our creator, Arthur MacAlpin, first king of the pirates,
gave us this code. He built a family, the lords of the sea, by protecting the
weak and gathering them into his arms. I was once weak, but my pirate king
father saved me. Made me what I am today, and I must repay this gift with every
breath I take.
Readers, what do you think of Shaw? What ever is he going to do when he comes
across Jane Lindsey and the steel around his heart begins to melt? His code may
come into jeopardy, for love… that is a bond hard to escape from. Will he learn
that love makes us stronger?
