The linking premise in the three novels has to do wtih Charles Sinclair, the
Earl of Trent.  He is England's most notorious roué, and over the decades he's
sired many illegitimate children.  His oldest bastard son, Phillip, is on a
quest to find his lost half-siblings and build a family with them.  The books
tell the stories of four of Lord Trent's cast-off children on their rocky road
to happily ever after.

The hero in LOVE'S PERIL is John Harcourt Sinclair.  His father is Lord Trent and his mother was a ruined British countess.  But John grew up in Paris, so he has the accent and mannerisms of a Frenchman.  He's also known as The French Terror, the most notorious pirate in the world and the kingdom's most wanted criminal.  For years, he's disrupted British shipping lanes, creating mayhem wherever he goes.  No one can figure out what drives him or how to thwart him, and there are hundreds of bounties on his head, posted in port towns from Rome to Jamaica.

In a rigged card game, he wins the Bramble Bay estate, located on the English
coast.  As he arrives to take possession of his new property, Miss Sarah
Teasdale's life will never be the same.
