Allie Pleiter | BLUEGRASS COURTSHIP
February 11, 2009
My first crack at the "plane Jane" heroine took me by surprise. Given my love
for larger-than-life characters, I wasn’t sure my muse was up to the challenge.
Then I remembered that one of the best matches for a small-town-practical girl
would be a big-city-dynamo of a guy. One Sunday night I was sniffling my way
through yet another episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition (come on…I
dare you to watch that without crying at the end), thinking how any red-blooded
American female would enjoy watching Ty Pennington rip up her hardwood flooring…
and voila!—the idea for Bluegrass Courtship was born. Of course, I had to give this
my own quirky twist, so I invented Missionnovation, the church-rehab
version of home makeover a show. After all, how many church buildings could use
a spruce-up to match the vitality of the congregations inside? It wasn’t hard to watch the sparks fly in all directions after I poured Drew
Downing and the high-voltage cast and crew of Missionnovation into the
tiny town of Middleburg. With all those characters, fun—and friction--was easy
to find. Like all the best romances, our heroine hardware store owner Janet
Bishop doesn’t fall easily for Drew’s legendary charms. After all, anyone who’s
ever lived through a renovation of any kind knows it’s always a bumpy ride. As
I like to say, they bring out the best in each other…but not before they bring
out the worst in each other. And that’s really where the fun lies, isn’t it? Visit Allie Pleiter Leave a comment below...and you'll be entered into a contest

This sounds like a fun time - I know she'll win!! (Kelli Jo Calvert 4:20pm February 11, 2009)
Anyone who can survive a major renovation unscathed is doing well. Our Victorian farm house that we bought in 1992 needed a lot of work - as in rip everything out and start over. It really was/is a nice house, but it hadn't been taken care of and had had had a bad remodeling effort started. That did more damage than 100 years. We're still working on it and my husband and I are still talking to each other. We're almost done (have been saying that for years!) We still love and other and even love the house. I love the plain-jane heroine;not everyone wants to be a blouse-busting babe! (Dawn Raymer 11:52am February 12, 2009)

I love plain-Jane heroines. It's more realistic to see a heroine who doesn't fit any molds and is comfortable in her own skin. (Jody Faltys 12:26pm February 15, 2009)
