Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Jacqueline Carey!

Writes:

Oh, I’ve traveled to many places under the big umbrella of fantasy! CASSIEL’S SERVANT takes us to Terre d’Ange, a land inspired by the south of France, where 10-year-old Joscelin Verreuil will spend the next 10 years training to become a chaste, stoic warrior-priest of the Cassiline Brotherhood…. only to be assigned to guard the most notorious courtesan in the realm.

Alternate historical fantasy dripping with intrigue, edgy sensuality and opulence is the hallmark of my Kushiel’s Legacy series. This laconic hero wants none of it.

About:

A longtime Michigander, I love being surrounded by the woods and dunes and gorgeous Lake Michigan—but I’m happy to Netflix and chill, too. I’m an unabashed foodie and an above-average home cook. While I’m definitely a Fortress of Solitude writer, in the kitchen, I thrive on camaraderie and fellowship.

I love learning new things, especially weird things. Here’s one:  Hiccups are your body’s way of attempting to breathe through your no-longer-existent gills. You’re welcome!

Other hobbies include photography, gardening, yoga, and hanging out with my cat.

What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:

  • You love a slooooooowwww burn romance.
  • Big books don’t scare you! Au contraire, there’s more to love.
  • You’re a sucker for a brooding hero with a sharp blade and a dry wit.
  • Happy endings are the most satisfying when they’re hard-won. You say, bring it on! Intrigue, treason, and betrayal! An impossible quest! Epic battles!

What to expect if we're compatible:

  • An urge to roam freely throughout all the realms I’ve written, some spanning our globe, some spun out of pure imagination.
  • You might find yourself considering a new one. Just be prepared.
  • Food envy when I finally perfect my macaron recipe.
  • To be honest, a lot of photos of my cat.

CASSIEL'S SERVANT by Jacqueline Carey

Kushiel's Legacy #4

Cassiel's Servant

The lush epic fantasy that inspired a generation with a single precept: “Love As Thou Wilt."

Returning to the realm of Terre d’Ange which captured an entire generation of fantasy readers, New York Times bestselling author Jacqueline Carey brings us a hero’s journey for a new era.

In Kushiel’s Dart, a daring young courtesan uncovered a plot to destroy her beloved homeland. But hers is only half the tale. Now see the other half of the heart that lived it.

Cassiel’s Servant is a retelling of cult favorite Kushiel’s Dart from the point of view of Joscelin, Cassiline warrior-priest and protector of Phèdre nó Delaunay. He’s sworn to celibacy and the blade as surely as she’s pledged to pleasure, but the gods they serve have bound them together. When both are betrayed, they must rely on each other to survive.

From his earliest training to captivity amongst their enemies, his journey with Phèdre to avert the conquest of Terre D’Ange shatters body and mind… and brings him an impossible love that he will do anything to keep.

Even if it means breaking all vows and losing his soul.
