2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
The local innkeeper discovers her one-night stand and the newest recluse in town are one in the same person. She has no plans on a repeat and he has no intentions of staying, but a spring festival, a pageant and meddling parents are soon giving this retired quarterback every reason to take a chance on the riskiest game of all...
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Since WITH LOVE FROM ROSE BEND is book 3 in the series, I already knew the setting of the story. But once I decided on the hero for the heroine, he helped shaped the additional places I incorporated into the small town of Rose Bend. Places such as his home, the high school football field and later the professional football stadium.
4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Oh most definitely! And I’d take her out for a girls’ night and get her tipsy. Because she has an amazing singing voice when she’s toasted. LOL!
5--What are three words that describe your hero?
Scarred. Grumpy. Sexy.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned that diversity in coaching in the NFL is horrible. It’s even more so when you consider almost seventy percent of the league’s players are Black. I also learned a ton about pageants, the different categories, walks, judging, etc.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit as I draft and then hit send when I’m done. Then drink. And shower. In that order.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
I’ve discovered this about myself just recently and I’m going to admit this because I feel like I’m in a safe space… Fried cheesecake. Yes, I know! I said it! Fried cheesecake! LOL!
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I love my office! It has a cool couch, a huge ottoman, two bookcases, one quickly filling with just my books, and a handmade desk with an awesome chair with a vibrating seat. Like I said, awesome. On two walls, I have canvases with my books covers and on the other are canvases dedicated to all things Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. It’s so me!
10--Who is an author you admire?
There are so many authors I admire, it’s impossible to choose just one. And for a variety of reasons. So I’m going to pick just two right now just off the top of my head. And these two authors come to mind for the same reasons. Nalini Singh and Tessa Bailey. I’m great fans of both of their writing - like HUGE fans. And at different but scary and incredibly difficult times in my life, both of them took moments to be kind. They didn’t have to be. At all. And yet, their acts of unsolicited kindness gave me light in a dark time. So for that, I admire I them. Because being amazing writers is one thing. But being amazing people is another.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
Oh yes. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe lifted the roof of my imagination the very first time I read it when I was about eight or ten. There aren’t any words to explain how it opened my heart, my mind, my whole world. Books, stories became more. And I’ve read it, and the other books in the Chronicles of Narnia, so many times since then because it had such an impact on my life. And every time I do, I discover something new. I love that book.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)
I received “the call” the first time back in 2009, and it was actually an email. But that didn’t make it any less exciting! I was at work, and I checked my personal email, saw the editor’s name in my inbox, yelled, “Oh my God!” and went running down the hallway of my office. That’s how everyone in my office found out I wrote romance. LOL! Then I went outside in the parking lot and called my husband, father, mother, and critique partners. Yeah, I basically called everyone in my phone. An hour later, a fruit bouquet from my husband showed up at my desk. It was an amazing day!
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
I don’t have one favorite genre. I’m a mood reader and what my mother used to call a book ho. LOL! I read several books at one time because it depends on how I’m feeling at the moment. So at any given time I can be reading a paranormal romance, historical romance, a new adult contemporary romance and listening to a romantic comedy. I love them all!
14--What’s your favorite movie?
I’m a child of the 80’s, so all of those. Dirty Dancing. Mystic Pizza. The Color Purple. The Five Heartbeats. All the John Hughes movies. The Love Boys. Stand By Me. But the one I’ve watched over and over in the last couple of years because it’s just wonderful and I want to write a book as perfect as it? Beyond the Lights. I ADORE this movie!
15--What is your favorite season?
I adore fall. The weather shifts from the hell of summer - can you tell I live in the south? - to cooler temperatures. The colors change and it’s prettier because the world is golden and on fire at the same time, the air is crisper, and the holidays are about to roll in. It’s like the last hurrah before the world slumbers for winter, my second favorite season.
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Oh easy. Sleeping late, watching TV with a great book and all of my favorite food. Oh! And gifts. Lotsa gifts. LOL!
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Okay - clapping hands - I’m going to run through this real quick! TV show: 90 Day Fiance or The Gilded Age. Movie: Inventing Anna. Yes, it’s a limited series on Netflix but still, I’m calling it a movie. A long movie. Book: Any and everything by Megan Crane. I’ve been binging ALL of her books in the last few weeks and yoooo! She’s so freaking amazing! Podcast: Bonkers Romance and Parcast: Crimes of Passion.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Chinese food. It’s my favorite go-to comfort food of all time!
19--What do you do when you have free time?
Nap and read. I’m a blue ribbon, champion napper!
20--What can readers expect from you next?
I’m super excited about more Rose Bend books this year! A new novella as well as Book 4, titled MR. RIGHT NEXT DOOR, later this year. And the last book in the Billionaires of Boston series, BLACK SHEEP BARGAIN comes out in August. Also, I have books in two new series releasing this summer. HEATED, Book 1 in the Burned, Inc series and JESSIE’S GIRL, Book 1 in the Trapper Keeper Diaries. So a busy year and lotsa books for readers!
