I love fall, though in coastal Texas the fall isn’t as grand as it is in other areas of the States. Still, I photograph leaves that have turned wherever I can find them. And when I went to Omaha in October, I was able to photograph fall colors too. Even in Central Texas at the zoo, the colorful leaves reflected in the water in November. I can pull up pictures I’ve taken in Scotland in September and Minnesota in the fall too and enjoy them when I can’t see them here. I love the fall colors. They make me feel good when the heat can still hang around for quite a while where I live, and I’m looking so forward to getting some cool-downs at least at night and in the mornings.

When we lived in Oklahoma, we used to drive along the Talimena National Scenic Byway in fall where the leaves were gorgeous. But when I lived in New Jersey, after having lived in Texas and Florida, I was astounded by the brilliance of the autumn foliage.

I love to decorate with fall leaves and fall items--like a sign that says, “Fall in Love.” It has fall leaves on it and it fits with my theme of falling in love in my stories. I hang a fall wreath on the door. Blue flowers in vases are changed out for fall color flowers.

When it cools down more, I love to straighten up my garden that has been so hot to work in and add colorful mums, that actually live through the winters here, they’re usually so mild. In fact, all my flowers begin to really bloom again after the draining heat begins to subside.

Decorating for Halloween comes too--because my 3-year-old granddaughter LOVES all things Halloween, so I can’t wait to begin decorating for both.

Fall means Thanksgiving and every year we alternate between visiting my son and his wife or share it with my daughter and her family. Sometimes that means going to see my son-in-law’s family also, and that’s really fun.

Now with my granddaughter being a little older, we’ll go on fall leaf hunts, and do fall kinds of activities and longer walks--once it cools down! Feeding the turtles at the pond, dressing up more for fall--when it gets cooler!

Closer to Halloween, my daughter, son-in-law, and I have a tradition of carving pumpkins. Mine has to be a wolf howling, naturally.

And at Starbucks, my daughter gets her favorite Pumpkin Spice Latte, but I’m more for a Christmassy feel with my Peppermint Mocha. And yes, Brooke Cerise, the heroine in Joy to the Wolves has that as her go-to drink too! Peppermint Mocha. Yum. Even the hero, Police Detective Josh Wilding, who is interrogating her for having a reindeer stolen from his reindeer farm at her antique shop, ends up falling for her Peppermint Mocha.

So fall for me is a time to dress up, cool down, garden, take walks, visit with friends, and photograph all things autumn.

I love fall!
