By the time this is posted, it will be about a week or so after the Lori Foster & Duffy Brown Reader & Writer Get
Together.
This is the 7th year. And I think I've only missed one. That year,
I was massively pregnant and although I wasn't due until the end of June, it was
decided that I probably shouldn't go--there were...issues. I also decided that
I didn't want to be forever known as THE AUTHOR WHO WENT INTO LABOR AT LORI'S!
Yes, knowing my luck that would have happened.
I love the smaller get togethers, and I have to admit, this is one of my
favorites. The hotel is wonderful, it's close to where I live (I'll admit, I
love that), price-wise, it can't be beat, and I get to see a lot of the same
readers year after year, as well as my author friends. Also, I get to see the
ladies from Fresh Fiction.
One of the coolest things about smaller events like this is how laid back they
are, how much time you get to spend just sitting around, chatting with friends,
talking books. I've stayed up way too late almost every event, but it wasn't
rushing around from one party to the next...it was just talking.
Like this year--Friday night, my admin Nicole, two of her friends, Jess Granger, Nalini Singh and I sat in
the bar for several hours. Just talking. FYI-Jess Granger is weird.
Her plotting/writing process? It terrifies me. Even if I am a bit in awe.
There are a few workshops, some author chats, chances to talk to editors and
agents. And of course, the booksigning. A huge booksigning. One thing
that was really cool for me this year--the get together was right around the
time my new release was scheduled to come out, so I was able to sign my new
book, HUNTER'S FALL, for
the first time.
Saturday night, after the raffle, the booksigning, and everything was said and
done, I spent a few hours in the atrium area with Sheila and Renee from CIRCLE OF SEVEN and
Nalini and we just talked. (There was also ooohhing and ahhhing over
jewelry--several of the ladies bring pieces to sell. HEART.)
What I really like is the time to just sit and mingle. And talk. Lots of time
of time to talk...
If you have ever have the chance to go to one of the smaller reader and writer
get togethers, but you just aren't sure if it's your thing? Well, we are all
there because we love books, and we love to talk books...if that is your
thing? You just might love it.

If I was ever in that area, I would be there in a heartbeat!! There is nothing more I would love to do than to meet you wonderful, talented, ladies!! Each of you have been given a gift, and that is to put pen to paper (so to speak), and give us such wonderful characters - some are real, most are not. You sweep us off of our feet, and keep us entertained for hours, with wonderful story lines. My hat goes off to you!! Congratulations on your latest book. I can't wait to read it, and someday to meet you as well.

I've never been but would so love to. Told my husband that sending me to one would make a wonderful birthday present. He said it might work. Thank you for all the great reads.

The conventions sound like fun. I just haven't looked at how attending one would fit into my plans.

I would love to attend one of the cons but there are very few in Ontario, Canada.

Next year I'm hitting the one that has the Mayan/Aztec theme simply because I love that stuff and it's going to be awesome. I think it's near Nashville, a place I love. Have fun this year and congrats on the new book.
