P.D. Martin | Readers Watch Their Plot Choices Come To Life
December 11, 2009
I admit, my latest project probably verges on madness – at the very least it’s
a little bit crazy...
A couple of weeks ago I launched a website called Coming Home – the start of a new book in my
Sophie
Anderson series. But
there’s one key difference...instead of writing this book in the "normal" way,
each week you tell me
how you want the next chapter to unfold, using different scenarios I put
forward. At the end of the
short voting period, majority rules and I’ll have six days to write that
chapter.
Voting’s just closed for chapter 1, but subscribe to the RSS feeds at www.pdmartin.com.au/ebook
or
subscribe to my
website
to get notifications of the next round of voting (Monday 14 December). Anyone
can vote - if you’ve
never read my books simply read the short back-story. After 12 weeks I’ll have
a Sophie novella, which
will be available for free on my website (after some editing and formatting).
This project is extremely exciting and scary for me. It gives me a chance to
write a Sophie story I’ve
longed to write – the tale of Sophie’s brother’s murder 28 years ago – while
also challenging me
creatively with the voting system. And after only a couple of weeks I’m finding
myself constantly
hitting the Show Results links. After all, I’m curious to find out what I have
to write next!

This reminds me of the Pick Your Favorite Ending For A Book where 2 or 3 choices were offered and each headed in a different direction. Only thing, this is on a whole bigger scale. Great idea. (Alyson Widen 4:41pm December 11, 2009)
Interesting way to write. I wonder how it all fits together. (Mary Preston 5:17pm December 11, 2009)
this is certainly different; good luck to you. (Diane Sadler 8:24pm December 11, 2009)
I think sometimes the most difficult tasks are the most rewarding. Good Luck and I know it will be great!!! (Mitzi Hinkey 3:56am December 12, 2009)
Wow, what an innovative way to silence the critics. After all, their votes shape the story, so the can't complain at the outcome. I love it!! (Susan Driskill 11:10am December 12, 2009)
This sounds like it could be fun. Challenging but fun. You might even get some good ideas from readers. (Gigi Hicks 9:12pm December 13, 2009)
