Robin Covington | The Seven Deadly Sins of Romance Readers

facebookgoodreadstwitterwebsite

We’ve all been told from a young age to be good, to do the right thing, and
to avoid violating
the basic tenets of neighborly behavior. All that is fine and good and I
applaud everyone’s
attempt to keep to the straight and narrow and not run amok like the furry
creatures soaked and
fed after midnight in the movie, Gremlins.

But there are sometimes when indulging in decadent, outrageous sinful
behavior is okay…
encouraged…necessary. Reading romance is one of those things. It’s visceral,
indulgent, and
selfish.

Perfect.

Here is how I sin every time I open a book…

1. Greed - Wanting too much of something.

There is no way to want too many romance novels. We all need Duke’s, MC Club
Presidents,
bodyguards, future royal monarchs, farmers, and family doctors. So many
heroes…so many to want…
so little time.

2. Gluttony - Similar to greed, but gluttony is the action of taking too much of something in.

Binge-reading is one of life’s most decadent pleasures. Finding that series
of 10 romance novels
and settling in to read non-stop until they are all done and then suffering
from book hangover
the next few days is a joy and not a sin.

3. Lust - The need to fulfill unspiritual desires (not just sexual desires, but this is usually what lust is associated with.)

Okay, I understand the definition but let’s all agree that one of the
reasons we indulge in
romance novel reading is because of the hot sex. Virgins, BDSM, out in the
open air, in the back
seats of cars, up against a wall, and even in a bed. Anywhere and everywhere
gives us a deep
sigh.

4. Envy - Jealousy; wanting to have what someone has.

Do you have a friend who got an advance copy of the romance novel you are
dying to read? I do
and for a brief second I fantasize about bopping them on the head and
running away with the
precious. But only for a second. β€œThinkng it” isn’t a sin after all…

5. Sloth - Being too slow or lazy at doing something.

Slow? Never when devouring a good book…but lazy? Oh, yes. Stretched out on
the sofa, next to a
fire or in a lounge chair under the hot sun, there is nothing more important
than the next page
or the next chapter. Laundry, food and the welfare of children is long
forgotten.

6. Wrath - Vindictive anger; angry revenge.

E-books priced at outrageous levels? A hero or heroine doing the wrong
thing? A cliffhanger that
you weren’t expecting? Wrath is what you are feeling. GRRRR.

7. Pride - Being too self-satisfied.

Do you have shelves and shelves of books alphabetized in your home?
Autographed copies and SWAG
from your fave authors that you keep on display to show off to your buddies?
That’s pride,
baby.

You can indulge in more of the taboo with the SEVEN SINS Anthology. Seven, never-before-published novellas based on the short list of sinful decadence. You don’t want to miss it.

About Robin Covington

Robin Covington loves to explore the theme of fooling around and falling in
love in her
bestselling books. A Night of Southern Comfort, her debut novel, was
nominated for the RT Book
Reviewers Choice Awards for Small Press and was touted by RT Book Reviews as
bringing a "fresh,
modern feel to the genre while still sticking to the things that get our
adrenaline pumping --
sex and danger"

When she's not writing sexy, sizzling romance she's collecting tasty man
candy, indulging in a
little comic book geek love, and stalking Joe Manganiello. You can find
Robin at her website,
Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Don't send chocolate . . . send eye candy!

Robin lives in Maryland with her hilarious husband, brilliant children (they
get it from her, of
course!) and her beloved furbabies.
